You may look at this thread and think Boy Scouts and zombie survival what do they have to do with each other?! Well being a Boy scout myself I have relized that boy scouting is very helpful in learning survival skills because it teaches three main main lessons:
Survival(duh) Resourcefulness First Aid All of these have taught me a great deal on how to survive. Now here is what I want to know. What do you think, do you agree or disagree with me if so why?

Out of all kinds of skills, there are plenty I would consider helpful but a few I would consider Vital.
1. Be sure you can COOPERATE with people... Otherwise prepare to fly solo or get your ass kicked (both arent a good idea). Not very many people will enjoy following someone who's hostile or want to be followed. 2. Know your weapon and always have a back up 3. Make sure you're useful. Be it knowing first aid, flexibility with weapons, being able to build, knowing how to fix up things or w.e. be sure you have a reason someone would want you to stick around 4. Know how to protect and take care of yourself. Relying on others won't do you much good considering this is the time where its "kill or be killed". If you dont know how to survive without the use of electricity or plumbing, you're screwed. If you cant patch yourself up after being cut open while playing with that knife of yours.. You're screwed. If you don't know how to gather food, defend yourself from zombies/hostile people, and keep your water sanitary... Needless to say... You're screwed. 5. Be good on making SMART decisions when under pressure... It kinda helps you... well... you know, STAY ALIVE Feel free to comment and add? o.o

I heard that bleach can clean water well enough if its clear water, with out boiling it. Here's the link I found that says how much to use :* http://www.newjerusalem.com/PureWater.htm *:. I was reading the "Water: Purity, How much, and How to get it..." I noticed that no one said anything anything about the hot water tank, (no need to purifay it before you drink it, if you turn the water line off fast enough). Or even draining all the pipes that you would be able to. With the hot water tank you are looking at least 20 gallons in there. I'm not saying that the rest of the ideas are really good, but i just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

You're busy battling the undead when suddenly... you get thirsty!
Every good survivalist knows to have some water on hand, but this thread is for asking and answering the specific questions about water. Heck, I think this should be our topic of the week. Anyways, To start things off, recommendations per day per person are a gallon in survival situations. You can live on a half gallon, but you better drink every drop and not sweat too much. So where do you get a gallon of fresh water per day? First is what you've got stored up. I've got 30 gallons of fresh, drinkable water stored in my kitchen in FDA-approved plastic jerry cans. You can also stockpile water bottles, plastic jugs from the grocery store, Sparkletts bottles, or any other safe container of water. As long as it keeps the water in, contaminants out, and doesn't leach into the water, you can store water in it. The second way to ensure you've got some water is to scavenge it. If you're quick about it, you can fill your bathtub and other various bowls, pots, and buckets before the municipal water loses pressure or gets contaminated. You can also find water in the tanks of flush-toilets, in water heaters, and even in the pipes of houses (close the main, open an upstairs sink, and suck with all your might on the front yard garden hose). Even still, you're going to want to purify anything you aren't 100% sure of its safety unless there's no other choice. I have a set of purification tablets that disinfect and deodorize the water to make it safe, but some people have great success with other forms of purification. Lets hear your opinions and thoughts!

I found this pretty cool website (yes it's a boy scouts website but so what?) it shows a lot of the skills that you need to survive. And... (fanfare of trumpets, drumroll) here it is! http://www.bsatroop780.org/skills/AllSkills.html

I was wondering if, in an enviroment in which there is trees, a river or two, and rocks, a hammoc and later an entire tree house, would work as a base, because I would believe it could work so long as you chose a sturdy, thick tree and good wood to build it with (With metal supports if possible)

Hi y'all,
I couldn't find a previous thread on this so, I thought I'd just ask. Can a lock like on a door, where keyhole is and such, can that be removed by shooting it? Like say, point blank with a12 Gauge shotgun?

Hey all, hope that I can get some good feedback for this.
I've gotten a somewhat "okay" from the parentals to start my career training early, and in full swing. With that, comes questions. I want to go into the field of mechanical engineering. In general, my goals in life in this are to get a good job in the field[for example CNC machining] I would also like to get into the gunsmithing field.. ya never know But, in addition, I want to master some homegrown skills. These are: Welding, Blacksmithing, Crafting(of weapons, armor, etc.), custom designing using metals, and a few other here and there things. I know there requires quite a bit of knowledge on chemistry when it comes to metals, i already know a bit. I also know where to get info to learn how to do this or that.. ANYWAY, here is my question: Can you add anything to the list that i type below to help give me a good jump start or increase my learning of metalworking? hand torch/welders steel saw dremel[already have] clamps bricks to build fire pit for heating up metal sturdy stand or workbench to do work on heat resistant gloves faceshield Various materials to make things with[sheet metal, steel plates, special nonmetallic items, like rubber, ceramic, etc.] Oh and another question.. is there any resin or epoxy that is publicly available that can bond or glue metals together? Thank you ZSDW community for any input.

If I dont have access to the above mentioned items/weapons (firearms are very hard to get and explosives are downright illegal) What are my best options? I need suggestions ASAP so I can get some weapons put together, no time like the present to be prepared!

I've been reading the skill lists and someone mention knowing a foreign language. I was wondering what languages would be considered most important to know? Personally I know Mandarin Chinese as well as French. I'm guessing Spanish would be important, but what else?

to add to number 1: listen FIRST to options and speak only when there is a need to say opinions and suggestions and speak for the well fare of all not just one's own survival. that way, arguments can be avoided and better strategies can be made.

Best piece of advice..... be as silent as possible and of course smell as badly as possible... the only senses a zombie counts on is hearing and smell....

If there are survivors in there are decide who leads and stick with them 9/10 people will follow if you say ok lets roll. Head somewhere safe or to closes point of transport and get someone secluded but able to be fortified, Try find some supplies if time permits.

One way to servive a zombie outbreak is you are going to have to kill anyone who becomes a zombie that also means your friends and famly.
