FNH - FNP 9mmThis is a featured page

I finally went out and purchased a 9mm for myself after months of research on the matter. I decided to purchase an FNP 9 from Bass Pro Shop. There were a couple of reasons I chose this particular gun. I like the safety features, I like that it has a hammer, and I like reviews of it. I was looking for very specific things: under $700, have an accessory rail, have a good weight, 9mm, etc...

Here is a little passage from FNH's website on the FNP-9:fnh fnp
When high ammunition capacity and light recoil are the order of the day, look no further than the FNP-9. Perfect for concealed carry, personal protection, security and law enforcement roles, it offers a reversible magazine release and ambidextrous decocking/manual safety levers. The FNP-9 features an external hammer, 4" hammer-forged stainless steel barrel, stainless steel slide, full-length guide rod, three-dot fixed sights and a highly ergonomic, checkered polymer frame with interchangeable backstraps and integrated accessory rail. Every FNP-9 comes standard with three magazines, a locking device and a lockable fitted hard case. - www.fnhusa.com

This isn't the first 9mm I have owned but it is the first that was truly mine and I have ever been excited about.

First Impressions
My initial impression of this gun's feeling was good. I liked the weight, length of the barrel, safety placement, and grip. It has a SIG-type double-action-to-single-action trigger setup supporting an exposed-round hammer. After I purchased it, I wanted to see if I could get a magazine extension for it. You can get a 30 round magazine for any Springfield Armory XD and I wanted one for my gun so badly. Unfortunately, they do not make one quite yet. Looks like I'll have to get that XD after all.

I actually shot my FNP for the first time last night and I must say that I am impressed. It handles very well and seems to be extremely accurate with the laser sights I purchased for it. I only got to shoot about 16 rounds though, I didn't make it to a range and shot it quickly in my friends yard.

After taking my FNP to the shooting range, I can add some great info on this gun. It's a straight shooter, simple and plain. Where ever on the target I took aim, it would "hit". I used a silhouette target and took 3 boxes of bullets. Now, I'm no sharp shooter at all. This is one of the first times I've been to the range and I would certainly consider myself a novice. However, I am trying. As I said before, where ever I shot, it would hit but it took some getting used to for me because before this gun, the only other gun I've shot extensively is my Walther P22, which is much different that my FNH. It's rim fire, a .22 caliber, and it's a much smaller/thinner gun. My Walther's are semi auto but they simply feel much different.
Target
Here is a picture of the target I used at the range. I set it up at ab out 20-25 feet away. As you can see, I've got holes all over the place on this thing. Partly because most of the time, I tried shooting it as fast as I could. So I had stray bullets. However, when I wanted to, and when I paid attention, I was pretty accurate. I'm not making excuses though, I'm not a great shot.

Ok, so enough of me rambling on. Let's get down the the nitty gritty.

Pros:
Good weight
Not barrel heavy, even with an accessory on the rail
Straight shooter
Double action to single action
Well priced
Comes with 3 magazines

Cons:
Not many accessories for it. (I am looking for magazine extensions)
A little wide
Slide has to be forced back and forth on the first shot (you can ease the slide down or it will jam)

So all in all, this gun is pretty much exactly what I was looking for when I purchased it. The magazine extension thing only came after I bought it and to be honest, most guns don't have that option. Only Springfield Armory XD's and Glocks.

Whether your a beginner, or a well seasoned expert, I think you'll find this gun is fun, easy, and professional to shoot. To me, the FNP-9 embodies the perfect Semi Auto 9mm pistol. Call me crazy, but I'm rating this gun
Zombie HeadZombie HeadZombie HeadZombie HeadZombie Head!!!!!

Ding Ding Ding! This is the first weapon I have ever rated a 5/5 zombie heads. You may think otherwise, and you may be right, because after all, I'm just a beginner. However, when I set out to find myself the perfect pistol under $700, I could not find another/better gun. Please understand though, just because it's a 5/5 does not mean it's the best 9mm ever made. It is the best one I could find for what I was specifically looking for. I wanted it to have a hammer, double action, hold 16 rounds, have an accessory rail, come with 3 mags, and be under $700. This is what I found.
