Hey everyone, just found an interesting lever-action rifle/carbine: the Kel-Tec SUB-2000. It may use 9mm Luger or 40 S&W ammunition(depending on the version you buy), which makes it easier to find available ammo around (in the case of an outbreak). Look's like a great weapon to have, but anyone owns one or knows how good it is? In the case I could get in my hand's one or another carbine/rifle that uses pistol rounds, would you recommend this one or another?

Okay, so in the corner, or the closet, or on the wall just above your bed are some places for home defense weapons, usually powerful, short range, low capacity weapons such as double barrel shotguns or .357 revolvers. The glass gun case on the wall is for your shooting range/practice weapons and critical acsess. The secure gun safe is for emergency SHTF weapons that you are stocking for Z-Day. Also, your concealed or open carry sidearm that you wear on you.
Okay, so a good above the bed weapon (my personal choice) would be a Stoeger Coach Gun, or any .357 magnum revolver for the drawer on a bedside table. As for the gun case would be possibly a Ruger 10/22 (cheap ammo, a good range and practice gun), a couple 9mm pistols, an Ithica 37, couple hunting rifles. Secure SHTF gun safe would be Five-Seven, 1911, possibly SKS, AR-15 or preferably AR-10, Mossberg 500, erhaps, Saiga. (Obviously not all of them.) My carry on would be concealed, as that's easier in SC, possibly a Colt New Agent or Bersa Thunder .380. Really, though, carry on wouldn't be my top priority. I only need that for self defense, or if Z-Day it happens suddenly and I need a gun to help me get home, but it would only be for sudden emergencies, and I don't really want one as much as I want some other stuff. Plus I need a concealed weapons permit fist. (I'd like to move to Alaska and not need a permit to carry a weapon, but that would change all my weapon preferences.) My ideal gun safe weapon would be a Thompson and a sh** ton of rounds, but .45 isn't very cheap right now, and with the high capacity/rate of fire of a Thompson is impractical unless I can set aside the money to stock up on zombie apocalypse ammo supply, but investing in a Thompson and enough rounds to prepare for something like that is impractical. Really, I hope I won't be stuck with a 1911 when it happens.

To avoid derailing the hatchets thread any further than I already have, I'm starting a new thread for this question.
Quoted from my post on that thread: "Splatter aside, how many people carry or plan to carry a firearm that, if their buddy was standing behind the zed, wouldn't experience over-penetration and risk hitting your buddy by mistake? While I'm not too concerned about hitting my buddy with splatter, presupposing that he's properly protected from it, I'd just as soon not accidentally shoot him." Since I believe that anything worthy of being used as a defensive caliber would risk this at least to some degree, what are your thoughts on dealing with this issue? And please lets keep the just-make-sure-you-buddy's-not-in-the-way replies to a minimum, shall we? We all recognize the importance of keeping safe lines of fire, but sometimes, in the heat of combat, this just isn't possible. And sometimes your buddy or some other survivor may be on the other side of a wall behind a zombie, and you don't even know they're there. Most common handgun calibers, and AFAIK any rifle caliber, would have no problem penetrating a single target while still having plenty of oomph left to go through a standard household wall to injure somebody on the other side. I'd think that shotguns would be less likely to experience this, but that would depend on what the shooter has them loaded with.

Well we all know were going to have to deal with other hostile settlements and raiders and the like so this is how I'm going to help protect my settlement.
I'm going to maintain a decent army of sorts but you never know that may not be enough so I'm going to make it so that all males [ you'll be considered an adult when your 15 in my settlement ] once they become adults at age 15 will have to go through a 2 month gun training, and once its over they will be given a rifle not a military rifle but a rifle never the less. The reason is because i believe its a mans duty to be able to protect their homes, their family, and most importantly there "country" so when the time comes when my forces need more troops id be able to more easily raise a volunteer irregular militia to combat our enemies. Women you are not off the hook though you may not join the military, but you will also be given gun training and given a rifle also when your 15. But unlike the men though who will be expected to put up a mighty offensive, women will be expected to put up a formidable defense to protect their children and their homes while the men our gone off fighting the enemies of the world.

I did a search for threads on the .22lr, but I wasn't able to find anything relevant, so I apologize if this has already been addressed. Anyway here goes.
There has been much debate on the ZSDW over the .22LR and whether or not it would penetrate the skull of an average Zed. My question is this: What if you lay aside rifles and use the .22LR only at acceptable pistol engagement range. Would it then be reliable enough to get the job done?

Hey ZSDW! I need some help with something and I've looked almost everywhere but can't find what I'm trying to find.
I was on a blogtv firearms show last night, chatting away about my inquiries into an ak74 build. The host referenced me to this: http://www.centerfiresystems.com/akagun74.aspx This is the perfect combination of cheap vs quality In My Opinion. I'm sure to be able to get this soon. To specify quality, let me point out the its built on a NODAC SPUD receiver. That's the best dang ak receiver you can get in America. I'm really wanting to get this rifle. I have the cash. BUT! The barrel length is 16.25" and I do not know what the legal length is for Florida. Ihave searched and searched and searched but can't find a .org site or .gov site that has the info. maybe im just stupid, idk. And every ask site i go to has a variation of 18", 16", or 16.5" Please my fellow Wikimen, help me out? And anyone looking for an ak... maybe this is your lucky day.

Hello, havn't started a new thread for a while, so I will try to make sense.
As a career choice, I am thinking about manufacturing firearms, ammunition, parts, etc. I honestly don't know what I am asking for; tips, comments, advice; but anyway: If this thread dies (in the origional sense), the secondary purpose is to post what guns you WISH were made. Take such and such action from this gun, combine with this stock, etc. Or, make something up. Thank you

the reason revolvers are more accurate is that since the entire bullet stays in the revolving cylinder it uses more of the barrel than a semi-automatic that pushes a round off the magizine and into the chamber/barrel. so the semi auto uses less of the length available in the barrel than and equal barrel lengthed revolver. so out of two equal lengthed barrels a revolver is going to be more accurate if both pistols are of equal quality etc.

the .223 was developed during the cold war for penetrating light armor. and since most types of survival shooting in this senerio is going to be agianst un armored targets the bullet it going to pass straight through without slowing down enough to tumble making a large enough wound channel to cause much harm. due to the fact since they were intended to be fired at tgts wearing kevlar vests thus slowing the round enough to tumble. allthough an obese person would allow for enough engery to be transfered allowing the round to tumble and create a large enough wound channel to inflict dammage. allthough this mostly applies to living tgts and shots to the body, not to the head. allthough the m16 seris rifles are usually more accurate they perform poorly on the terminal ballistics department. the plus is that they are lighter to carry (ammo) vs most other types of bullets.
m16 vs. m4. the m16 with its longer barrel allows for a higher muzzle velocity ( were you get any knock down power with such a small and quick round) the con is obviously the length of the rifle. but for the m4 allthough it is lighter and more compact. it takes away at the muzzle velocity that the longer barrel m16 has. there fore takes away from its killing potential. it should be noted that this is all for full copper jacketed rounds ( the most common type) and not for hollow points and various hunting ammo.

This is a directory for various kinds of firearms. It made it uncategorized so I could work on it some.
The original page was written by AlaskanKnight. In addition to adding content here, I plan on making sub directories that have guides to the usage, controls and like of specific kinds of firearm. I'll post content updates in this thread as I write them.

Trying to decide on a long distance bolt-action rifle. These are the two I've narrowed it down to. A .223 or a .308. I have a Win. .270 but I'm leaning towards something that fires more common and less expensive rounds. I've grown attached to my old model 70 and like it well enough just looking for a change and haven't shoped for a gun in a while. What's out there for around $1200. Also can you safely fire NATO rounds through a hunting rifle?
