the Panama canal seperates the to major American continents. Any bridges and locks that could carry foot or motor traffic would be blown by the military during a crisis . Oh yeah, Also the African continent is seperated from Asia and Europe by the Suez Canal.

But the same way a plague would have to jump from Europe or Asia to the N.American continent would insure it would jump to S. Amer. , Australia and Indonesia.

Your story, for the most part is plausible, though there are a few points that I disagree with.

Firstly, anyone who's been to the Vatican would know that the Pope is one of the most well protected people on the planet, there are a -lot- of religious idealists out there who would just love to make a necklace of Pope teeth and the Church knows this. Though how those defenses would fare against a Romero Z is anybodies guess

Secondly, the climate of the Arctic, specifically the North pole is unsuitable for human habitation. While I do not doubt that rich and famous VIP's would run and hide, the Arctic is a very unlikely place, I would see Brook's example from World War Z, where the VIP's fortify themselves in a comfortable fortress in an undisclosed tropical location as a much more likely example. The rich don't want to survive, they want to live comfortably while the world goes to hell in a hand basket around them.

A 10.0 Earthquake would be more than just 'felt in Beijing' that magnitude of quake has never hit a modern city centre. The Quake in San Francisco that destroyed nearly the entire city in 1906 was a 7.6. In the highly unlikely event such an apocalyptic disaster would coincide with Z-Day, the people of the entire Oriental coast line would have far greater problems than Z's to worry about.

But enough nit picking, to go with Part 13 (I'm sure there is some subtle irony in that) I have learned from experience to never underestimate mankind's two greatest traits, Stupidity and Resourcefulness. The death toll from Z-Day will be beyond anything this planet has known since the end of the Dinosaurs, but it is my firm belief that so long as there is a man and a woman left on this Earth, that the human race will never fall into extinction.
