Alright, I know there are a few of these floating around, but I'm trying to make a comprehensive time line on what will probably happen should a zombie plague arise. Remember people, you can contribute as well. Tell us your thoughts on how this would start.
Edit: Instead of just focusing on the opening of a zombie outbreak, I will presenting my views for the entire time line. Remember, give your ideas as well. If any admins read this, can you move this to a more appropriate page, like education or what you think this would be best labled under?

Day 1- Scattered reports come in to news desks and papers that people have been either attacked or killed by insane cannibals. The government in the US and other western nations take little note. The Caribbean is a different story. Thousands flock to voodoo witch doctors, desperate for relief. In Asia, totalitarian regimes such as China hunt down and destroy anyone matching these descriptions, while nations such as Japan and S. Korea imprison them.
Day 2- More reports of attacks come in, along with others of a strange illness appearing in parts of the world. Western nations take some notice, but simply pass it off as some sort of AIDS mutation. In China, word is leaked to the Associated Press that there are hundreds of cases of attacks being reported in Beijing alone. Russia, with thousands of miles of tundra, has relatively few problems with said attacks. Tokyo reports that at least a dozen more people are arrested, though they are put into a hospital instead of jail because of "the strange necrosis of their limbs and bodies".
Day 3- New York reports three dozen more incidents, causing concern among Americans that a new disease has been discovered. Scientists take the first steps by studying those attackers who have been captured. They to note the strange necrosis of the skin. Africa, having been devastated by disease so much in its history, is effectively in a panic, with warlords, tribes and governments all vying for power. Saudi Arabia is having problems exporting oil, due to workers fearing to leave for wells and refineries. Marines in Iraq are brought up on charges of attacking civilians, though the case is held when it is revealed that the civilians had bite marks on parts of their bodies.
Day 4- The first real footage of an attack is shown on CNN. The video, coming from Philadelphia, shows what looks like a homeless man stumble out from an alley and attacking a passing bystander. When police arrive, the man is dead, and the attacker not only takes multiple hits with a billy club, but also bullets before falling. Soon, however, the bystander rise up and start attacking the officers as well, at which point the tape stops. Israel enacts a strict policy of isolation, literally shooting at anyone near the border. Cries from human rights activists fall on deaf ears.
Day 5- New Orleans, still devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, are now under the onslaught of hundreds of people who seem to have contracted the disease. The police and National Guard in the area, already stretched thin, barely hang on. In Washington, a senator is attacked by a "drunken hobo". Soon, he is hospitalized and in a coma. France reports small-scale riots in its slums, though there are no reports of looting. Germany is also reporting rioting, but this comes as a surprise. Britain also reports rioting in its slums as well, but quick action by the police neutralizes it.
Day 6- Los Angeles is suddenly rocked by riots, along with Detroit and Newark. Though L.A. and Newark are quickly brought back under control, contact with Detroit PD officers in the area is cut-off amid panicked screams and gunfire. Attempts to reach them prove futile. The governor of Michigan announces a state of emergency. The only real enforcement comes from state police, as military forces are spread thin. The president makes a public announcement acknowledging that there may be a new disease, and asks health care professionals and scientists to study the victims. Contact with N. Korea becomes sporadic, and only state run media is operating on a barely regular basis.
Day 7- A hospital in New York is the site of a deadly riot when hundreds of patients and their families attempt to leave. Complicating matters, one of the victims of the disease is released, biting hundreds. Soon, the area is quarantined, and anyone entering or exiting without a reason is shot. Overseas, US military strength wanes, as troops are pulled from Iraq and Afghanistan to combat trouble at home. S. Korea, knowing it will lose US troops, starts to bolster its military. Riots in France effectively shut down the government, as the president and many officials flee to the country in order to keep the government running. Brazilian Amazon tribes are flocking to the cities, carrying reports of catatonic creatures impervious to weapons.
Day 8- The situations in New York, New Orleans, and Detroit continue to deteriorate. Doomsday cults are rumored to be springing up in the affected areas, along with bands of survivors trying to contact the government. The pope announces that this is not a divine punishment, and urges Catholics to rally to the faith and aid authorities in any way possible. The public in much of the world has taken to calling the affected "zombies".
Day 9- The situation in Detroit is deteriorating, as zombies start to break through the barricades surrounding the city. Only a few living remain inside the limits. Scientists have yet to find a cause for the outbreak, though a virus is stated as the most likely candidate. Pundits pass this off as "Romero's next big release". Las Vegas reports multiple encounters of the zombies, reporting that tourists are jamming the airport. Manhattan island is reported to be the most infected part of the eastern seaboard, with officials truly considering sealing it off. Ports worldwide are flooded with people desperate to board ships and leave for the safety of the sea. This proves false, however, when some passengers bring infected relatives on board, in the false assumption that they would see the disease through. Such "dead boats" are ordered to be sunk on sight by all navies.
Day 10- The Iranian government falls to massed student protests,but this proves worthless when infected appear in the middle of the turmoil. Soon, there are no major communications coming out of Tehran. Chinese cities, due to massed overcrowding, see the worst of the disease, with entire divisions of the PLA being called out to combat the threat. Japan is little better, as the Tokyo police are finding it increasingly difficult to get a handle on the growing number of undead. Scientists in Switzerland have formally announced that the victims are, medically, dead. However, their circulatory and nervous systems remain operable, though the exact reason "has yet to be discovered". N. Korea is effectively dead, since not even state broadcasts have been heard in the past four days. Russia, now seeing rising numbers of infected, enacts a policy of "scorch and burn", where all infected are destroyed on discovery, and their homes and possessions burned, in the belief this will keep the disease from spreading.
Day 11- Detroit is declared lost, as thousands make one last desperate flight from the city. Inside, embattled survivors battle cult members who see the zombies as "a higher form of life", and try to spread it outside the city limits. Massed bombing of the city is initiated, though this proves futile, as the zombies are found to survive even the most horrendous injuries.
Day 12- Africa is effectively dead, but western news agencies fail to realize this due to the continents instability. Even the fact that many nations have not been contacted in days is no reason for concern, as networks such as CNN, Fox News, and publications like Time magazine, are concentrating on the Western outbreaks more than Africa. Europe has had surprising few problems with containment, due to their high proportion of special forces trained for anything, but the common people are having trouble grasping how this could happen, as science still hasn't found an answer. When the queen of England dies, rumor spreads like wildfire that she was a zombie and had to be enthused.
Day 13- Tokyo is the first sight of a massive outbreak, when a lab technician sees a relative infected and tries to hurry them outside so they don't get tested like the others. But how the Japanese tested the undead is revealed later. For now, all of Tokyo is being infected more and more. The JSDF is overwhelmed and has to pull out to the country, while a small group of SAT and JSDF are holed up in the airport off the coast. S. Korea makes small forays into the North, and so far has discovered many small towns have been razed to the ground. However, in searching the bodies, they discover that some haven't been turned yet. In fact, some were very much alive when killed. However, the searches are called of when massive numbers of undead start attacking the scouting groups. Russia is becoming increasingly desperate, as survivors from the tundra start flooding cities, bringing infected with them. Vladivostok naval base is reporting ever increasing encounters, while St. Petersburg is becoming a dead city. Similar incidents are reported in Mexico, China, Brazil and India.
Day 14- The UN reports that at least five countries have been destroyed due to the now official "Zombie Pandemic". The countries lost appear to be N. Korea, Swaziland, Peru, Haiti, Costa Rica and Jamaica. The reasoning for the Caribbean is that with the strong sense of voodoo traditions, it became impossible for doctors and other professionals to stop the undead, as they were protected by relatives who thought them to be controlled by a witch doctor. In the US, Texas has organized "Neighborhood Sweep Patrols", made to clear unoccupied houses of the undead. In Louisiana, the general consensus is that New Orleans is lost, and the government starts pulling troops out. In Detroit, a broadcast is received by the government. However, it is not from survivors, as initially hoped. Instead, it is from a cult calling itself "The Renewed Earth". Claiming that humans are unfit to serve as the planets caretakers, these "new lifeforms" will regulate us, keeping our destructive tendencies in check. The government responds by triangulating the transmission, then sending multiple MOABs to that point. The blasts, along with the shock wave, obliterate whole blocks of the city.
Day 15- A dead ship lands of Normandy, and, for a second time, the beach is stormed. However, there is no army present to put up an defense, and, in what is later described as a "sick parody" thousands of undead swarm the coastal towns, causing the French government to order massive bombings. Science is still unclear as to the origins of the pandemic, though they have agreed that the primary cause is viral transmission. The situation is Japan continues to deteriorate, as increased numbers of undead shamble about the city. There are survivors, and some have even found equipment that enable them to aid the JASDF in making bombing runs in areas of highly concentrated numbers of undead.
Day 16- The situation worldwide is now somewhat stable. Even with the plague still spreading , the rest of America quickly falls into order, after searching "zombie defense" on the Internet. The Amazon rain forest is effectively abandoned, as the majority of tribes are now encamped in the major cities. Scattered reports suggest that some tribes are still alive, but these are passed off as rumors. Reports coming out of Europe are more disturbing. Italy, with its high number of mountain towns, it swamped with requests for aid. When military forces arrive, however, they find either few survivors or none at all. Africa is still ignored, though bloggers soon pick up on the fact that all African news has been strangely quiet. Oil is growing increasingly scarce, as workers and technicians refuse to leave their families to the threat of the undead. This increases the already strained American economy, where gas is now $5 a gallon.
Day 20- South Korea sends troops back over the border and once more finds villages filled with bodies, some bearing evidence that they were alive when killed.Securing the bodies, the troops quickly pull back over the border and give the bodies to national scientists. The initial results point to gunshot wounds. Initial forays into Detroit find some survivors near the edge of the containment zone. Deeper in, survivors of "Renewed Earth" are found and subsequently arrested or killed, depending on the level of hostility. The teams sent in go no further, though, as the sheer number of undead are to large to handle. Instead, the containment zone slowly moves forward, sweeping out any Z's uncovered. Texas has been most effective at controlling the zombie problem, as the NSTs already in place have cleared Dallas, San Antonio and Austin significantly. As an almost humerous and uplifting sidenote, sales of George Romero movies have jumped, and hundreds are quickly learning what to look for. However, no government has released any official statement on what to look for.
Day 27- Japan's infection rate has hit a plateu, and is keeping to a constant rate. The JSDF is following the same strategy as America's forces, slowly advancing through the horde. Now that the situation worldwide has hit a stable area, news agencies are starting to realize that Africa is almost completely silent. The Middle East has suffered tremendous casualties, based on the large number of suicide bombings that have taken place over the past month. US forces are still present, along with their allies. India has had some success, though this has been limited. According to the European Union, most of the continent has been cleared, though Italy is still having problems.
Exxels Apocalypse
Day 1
less then 100 people are reported to have come down with a strange disease turning the skin grey and are bleeding excessively in Toronto.
Day 2
People are brought to hospitals spreading disease to surgeons and doctors and other staff, Safety masks are useless.
Day 3
Infected take on new symptom of cannibalism infecting more humans. Citizens smuggle family members with symptoms to other cities across the border and further north spreading the disease. The infected break free of the hospital and start infecting and killing civilians.
Day 4
New york, Ottawa, Montreal and Chicago experience people with same symptoms, Rioting and looting are present in Toronto as hundreds flee the city hoping not to be infected only spreading the disease. Law enforcement are fighting back against rioters and Police having no affect against the zombies they flee out of the city, some containing the disease.
Day 5
New york,Ottawa, Montreal and Chicago have riots and looting Steven Harper is killed by rioters
Parliament buildings are destroyed and Canadian troops are brought back from the middle east to help contain the problem in Canada. Toronto is abandoned except fro survivors and zombies.Washington Boston New Jersey Brooklyn Halifax Quebec city anf Fredericton are starting to experience similar symptoms. Many leave these cities fleeing into the country.
Day 6
The US sends troops to contain New york while law enforcement secure US cities along the eastern sea board.Canadian cities are in mayhem as riots break out in Victoria Calgary Edmonton Regina Winnipeg and Vancouver with no army to contain them Canada goes to hell. Infection seems to not be spreading more northern then Churchill Manitoba. PEI is under quarantine and Toronto is nuked by US trying to eliminate source of infection. Eastern seaboard is desolate and disease spreads across North America. Ottawa is under war between 2 surviving groups.
Day 7
Toronto is a desolate wasteland, eastern Canada is entirely infected besides PEI and Newfoundland due to quarantine. Western Canada is A war zone between refuges zombies and law enforcements. Most of US is infected western coast is in riots and looting, people are being killed in riots and law enforcements is entirely wiped out by rioters. Other nations hope that disease will not spread. Mexico is taking disease badly very fast and death toll is in tens of thousands. Central America is preparing for the worst, eastern north America is entirely destroyed very little life is found and New york is completely life less.
Day 8
South America is experiencing infection. Tribesmen flee into the cities telling of infected beasts that can not be killed,
apparently the infection has crossed breeds with most animals, North America is wiped out. PEI is silent and Newfoundland is suffering heavy casualties and heading for St John. Other nations are not getting involved, Word spreads that the Caribbean is using witch doctorery and voodoo to be cured by eating the bodies of the dead only spreading disease faster.
Day 9
US, Canada, Mexico, all of central America and Caribbean are desolate. Newfoundland land has set sail to the seas only bringing the disease with them and dying at sea. South America is under a war of tribesmen and undead, the big cities have been destroyed in a series of extremely serious earthquakes destroying them beyond repair.
Day 10
All of South Central and North America is silent. The rest of the world is convinced that the worst is over. The next 40 days are hectic as the trade routes are rewired and then everything normal once again.
Day 50
A boat with no passengers washes ashore on the French coast. The Area is closed of and anyone near it without authorization is shot on sight. Scientists examine the boat becoming infected and bring it to Paris spreading it and starting the disease again.
Day 51
Mankind is rioting all over the world at the sudden appearance of the disease in Paris is spreading more rapidly then before only in 1 day nearly 700 thousand have been killed. Every nation willing to live locks down and waits for the worst.
Day 52
The disease evolves and becomes airborne spreading across the world in hours and within 1 hour of this news mankind is loaded into bunkers to wait it out, Unknown to all of them that the disease was within most of them already, most die days later in the bunkers. Only 3 bunkers are left and 1 opens and mankind is exposed once again , the other 2 stay shut for several years before opening and starting to reclaim earth. This soon leads to war between the to bunkers and starting up the human goal for dominance.
UnUndead's prediction, based on Solanum Zs:
Day 1: Some hobo in New York City (any city would work. This is an example) gets infected, and bites several other hobos because they're right next to him on the sidewalk. You may hear about some crazy, starving drunk getting too desperate for food on the news.
Day 2: All the hobos that were bitten turn into Zs, and repeat the process. Right now there are less than ten Zs, so no one really notices. The only way you'll find out is if you happen to see one eating a hobo as you walk to work/school/gym/etc.
Day 3: Now there are as many as fifty Zs, and they've started attacking random passersby. Most people who are bit today go to the hospital, and some of the tourists and business people who are bit go back home or to other cities, and maybe overseas. You hear reports of violent murders and cannibalism. Police arrest many Zs, but not before they've bitten as many as five people each, and many of the police are bitten. People start panicking and rioting. Any arrested Zs infect their cell mates, and during mealtime possibly the whole jails. By the end of the day, there are probably less than twenty Zs, most having been killed by people who have watched Dawn of the Dead more than ten times, or visit this website regularly, but there are hundreds of infected people.
Day 4: The jail and hospital are overrun; almost everyone in either building is a Z. They come out of the jail and hospital in hundreds, feasting on the people in the streets. There's major rioting, looting, and fleeing going on, and the streets in the vicinities of the jail and hospital quickly become packed with cars.A few local media stations finally start reporting that these are indeed the undead, and they tell people to leave the city. People, some with infected family members, listen, and further spread the infection. Several doomsday cults are started as a result of the news reports. National media calls the reports a "sick joke made to inspire fear," and/or "a terrorist's message of hate."
Day 5: The areas around the jail and hospital are heavily infected, and riot police are struggling to keep the Zs at bay. Major news stations report riots caused by cannibalistic revolutionaries or a crazy religious group. The areas are quarantined and barricades are erected. Police are ordered to kill rioters on sight. The barricades hold, but many police are bitten, and most Zs that die are killed by accident.
Day 6: Bitten police wake up as Zs and infect their families all over the city. Police have noticed that you can blow holes the size of fists through the "rioters'" chests and they keep walking. The barricades break as police freak out and desert, with the intent of saving their families. As many as half a thousand Zs are unleashed upon the city.
Day 7: The outbreak has reached class three, with Zs numbering in the thousands. The vast majority of Zs are still within ten miles of either the hospital or jail, while the rest are scattered throughout the city. News reports say that the revolutionaries have taken over a portion of New York, and have converted many members.
Day 8: You start hearing news reports of cannibalistic rioters in other major cities, both in the U.S. and in other countries. There are now over ten thousand Zs in New York, and other major cities are about four days behind. Although this may seem like a huge number, it's really only a small fraction of New York's population. Some cities and countries react better than others, but few can actually hold off the undead.
Day 9: Zs in New York number at above fifty thousand. Martial law has been declared, and the military is called out of whatever country it happens to be invading at the time of the outbreak to fight the Zs. The soldiers are told that they are rioters. They're deadishness is explained away, as are all the weird things about them. They are told to shoot for the heads of the rioters, and not to let anyone out of the city until they've been checked by a team of doctors.
Day 10: The state of New York continues to decline. Zs number anywhere from two to four hundred thousand. The Caribbean and areas in Africa where Voodoo is prominent have caught up to it ( in terms of human:zombie ratio), though, and most third world countries are having a very rough time.
Day 11: U.S. troops begin to try to take New York, but are outnumbered by Zs, because now the U.S. is dedicating troops to preventing infection from reaching critical levels in other cities, and only sends twenty thousand men to New York. On top of that, actual rioters and doomsday cults are attacking the military for supplies and weapons. When the people see how slow evacuation is, many start trying to run past the soldiers. Freaked out, the soldiers start firing into the masses, failing to hit many in the head. The infected that were shot get up as Zs shortly afterward. This, of course, freaks out the troops like nothing else could, and they break and run, leaving the city infected.
In other cities, the military is more successful than in New York. In several cities (mostly those without big hospitals or jails), all Zs are killed, along with most of the infected. In most, Zs are almost wiped out before the troops are overrun. Predominantly Voodoo practicing and many third world counties are nearly overrun, while most European countries and Australia are a few days behind the United States. Russia, Northern Canada, and northern Europe have not had many problems with the undead. With the turmoil farther south, these areas have started restricting tourism and immigration from southern countries. The utterly uninteresting and rural areas are having almost no problems with zombies.
NOTE: I'm not sure about Asia, as I'm not familiar with its cultures, history, or countries' laws.
Alternate Theory:
Day 0
Scattered news reports of “strange” civil disorder; A sharp spike in Domestic Violence and bar fights.
Day 1
Reports of several riots, especially in areas unknown for rioting; In my hometown (Sacramento), one might be McKinley Park area. Another Broadway (west of 27th street).
Day 2
Institution of martial law; Reports now clarifying, anyone who was bitten is now known to be infected. Infected persons are being incarcerated until they actually turn, in singles if possible, shackled when not.
Day 3
Mass martial law imposed. Civic leaders are authorized to instill emergency measures “at the needs of the public good.” Dusk to dawn curfews are standard operating procedure now- Police are ordered to shoot to kill any person who they see on the streets (possibly outside their home) unless said home is on fire or 911 is called in advance.
Day 4
Either the dawn is going to break, or it’s not, right here; Either the first reports of successful containment start to come in, or the first reports that communication with some cities was lost.
Day 5
Those cities that lost containment are now contained by the National Guard and Army units; Infected or not, all refugees from those cities are to be shot on sight. (Possibly designated evacuee sites and protocols, such as say “State Fair Grounds, wear orange to be identified as uninfected”, may be issued- If you can hear the msg. Most people will not be able to receive these ’s, and be shot on sight.)
Day 6
This is where containment is tested. The cities that did fall will by now be encircled and eradicated; Those holed up inside may well be eradicated, infected or not.
We now fast forward about a month; We start to see cities ‘cleansing’ as the few survivors are eliminated. We can expect the crisis to last another 6 months or so, before the last few rpt’s of individual zombies wandering into isolated areas, being killed by military units sent to eliminate such threats; All uninfected survivors in those areas would have long ago been evacuated, but tripwire traps (traps that do not necessarily kill or even injure, just alert others to the unauthorized presence, much like a security alarm) are in place to get the attention of armed response (probably attack helicopters).
Richboy's Idea of How It Starts
This has Dawn of the Dead running zombies that can't be killed by any method other than severe trauma to the brain or removal of the head. These are brought back to life, regardless of death from bite or any other method besides head trauma or decapitation.
Part 1- News reports say of strange cannibalism, odd bites, and people who have been reported dead returning to life. The number of zombies is only 1,000.
Part 2- A news reporter films a zombie (called a "crazy" over the television). The "crazy" bites over 20 people and is shot over 20 times before it is killed. The number of zombies is in 3,500-5,000.
Part 3- Riots start in New York City, Los Angeles, and Detroit. Many believe the riots are racially motivated, but they are for supplies and shelter. Zombies get into the riot and bite hundreds, if not thousands. The infection has now spread to Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain. Martial law is declared. The number of zombies is from 10,000 to 25,000.
Part 4- The president calls all soldiers back to the United States and orders police to shoot anyone caught wondering the streets. The Prime Minister of Great Britain and the President of the United States of America, along with many other wealthy and/or famous world leaders and celebs head to an undisclosed location. The infection has hit mainland Europe and South America. The number of zombies is between 50,000 to 150,000.
Part 5- All communication with North America is lost except for a line with a group of survivors in Los Angeles who plead for supplies and rescue from the "demons". A pedestrian in Germany films "a drunken hobo" biting many people and being shot 25 times. The Pope prays live over the Internet and television for the demons to stop, about 25 minutes before the zombies get into the Vatican and infect every person there due to the lack of any security. The number of zombies is about 250,000.
Part 6-All contact with either of the Americas is lost, along with all of Great Britain, Cuba, and Iceland. A nuclear missile hits Israel, which is later revealed to be from the Russians, who blame this on the Jews, homosexuals, and Americans as a whole. Gas in uninfected countries cost at least $50.00. The number of zombies is around 10 million.
Part 7- The infection has now reached Asia. It has also reached Africa, but it takes the undead over 1 month to pass the Sahara desert. A rebel group claims the disease is a "punishment from God" for sins such as homosexuals, abortions, murder, and global warning. There is no idea where the transmission comes from, although it is obvious that they are in peril, as many zombie moans are heard. The number of zombies is around 100 million.
Part 8- Uninfected countries such as China, Russia, and the Koreas combine their armies and begin to retake Europe with relatively low casualties. However, the Americas are still overtaken. The number of zombies is around 150 million.
Part 9- Satellites fall from the sky in many areas, and contact with anyone in outer space is lost, implying they have all died. An amateur film shows a single man sniping over 100 zombies alone in New York with a Dragunov sniper rifle from the 18th floor of the Empire State Building. The number of zombies is around 250 million.
Part 10- A ship full of zombies is found floating in the middle of the Atlantic, and a map on board implies they were headed from Boston to London, unknowing that London was overtaken itself. Truckers in America, who call themselves the "Devil Rebels", film themselves in Las Vegas, Nevada. They pick up over 1,000 dead zombie bodies and put them in a semi. They later show a video of the bodies being dumped into a giant hole in the ground, revealed to be a past construction site. The number of zombies is around 300
million.
Part 10- An earthquake is felt in Beijing with a magnitude of 10.0 and a tsunami hits Tokyo, killing perhaps millions and actually bringing undead onto the shore of Japan. The Sears Tower in Chicago, Illinois is filmed collapsing by an man named Steven Spielberg, who said that he "missed his boat that was headed to the Artic". New York City is nuked. The number of zombies is over 400 million.
Part 11- Most of Japan is overrun, and the location of the many famous and wealthy people is revealed to be in the North Pole. Many people head to the North Pole, and some end up unknowingly in Russia, Iceland, Greenland, and Norway, and some even on the South Pole due to poor sea knowledge. The number of zombies is over 500 million.
Part 12- A boat full of over 250 survivors arrives in the Artic, while bringing multiple zombies. Several people die of exposure and bites, along with being shot by security, who are protecting the celebrities who are in an extremely large tent. The survivors shoot back at and succesfully kill the security, who turn into zombies and run into the tent, and kill nearly all of the celebrities, since very few were armed and very few of the armed people actually knew how to use the gun well. The number of zombies is near 1 billion, as every country excluding Australia, New Zealand, island nations that aren't in the Carribean, and South Africa are now infected.

Day 1- Scattered reports come in to news desks and papers that people have been either attacked or killed by insane cannibals. The government in the US and other western nations take little note. The Caribbean is a different story. Thousands flock to voodoo witch doctors, desperate for relief. In Asia, totalitarian regimes such as China hunt down and destroy anyone matching these descriptions, while nations such as Japan and S. Korea imprison them.
Day 2- More reports of attacks come in, along with others of a strange illness appearing in parts of the world. Western nations take some notice, but simply pass it off as some sort of AIDS mutation. In China, word is leaked to the Associated Press that there are hundreds of cases of attacks being reported in Beijing alone. Russia, with thousands of miles of tundra, has relatively few problems with said attacks. Tokyo reports that at least a dozen more people are arrested, though they are put into a hospital instead of jail because of "the strange necrosis of their limbs and bodies".
Day 3- New York reports three dozen more incidents, causing concern among Americans that a new disease has been discovered. Scientists take the first steps by studying those attackers who have been captured. They to note the strange necrosis of the skin. Africa, having been devastated by disease so much in its history, is effectively in a panic, with warlords, tribes and governments all vying for power. Saudi Arabia is having problems exporting oil, due to workers fearing to leave for wells and refineries. Marines in Iraq are brought up on charges of attacking civilians, though the case is held when it is revealed that the civilians had bite marks on parts of their bodies.
Day 4- The first real footage of an attack is shown on CNN. The video, coming from Philadelphia, shows what looks like a homeless man stumble out from an alley and attacking a passing bystander. When police arrive, the man is dead, and the attacker not only takes multiple hits with a billy club, but also bullets before falling. Soon, however, the bystander rise up and start attacking the officers as well, at which point the tape stops. Israel enacts a strict policy of isolation, literally shooting at anyone near the border. Cries from human rights activists fall on deaf ears.
Day 5- New Orleans, still devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, are now under the onslaught of hundreds of people who seem to have contracted the disease. The police and National Guard in the area, already stretched thin, barely hang on. In Washington, a senator is attacked by a "drunken hobo". Soon, he is hospitalized and in a coma. France reports small-scale riots in its slums, though there are no reports of looting. Germany is also reporting rioting, but this comes as a surprise. Britain also reports rioting in its slums as well, but quick action by the police neutralizes it.
Day 6- Los Angeles is suddenly rocked by riots, along with Detroit and Newark. Though L.A. and Newark are quickly brought back under control, contact with Detroit PD officers in the area is cut-off amid panicked screams and gunfire. Attempts to reach them prove futile. The governor of Michigan announces a state of emergency. The only real enforcement comes from state police, as military forces are spread thin. The president makes a public announcement acknowledging that there may be a new disease, and asks health care professionals and scientists to study the victims. Contact with N. Korea becomes sporadic, and only state run media is operating on a barely regular basis.
Day 7- A hospital in New York is the site of a deadly riot when hundreds of patients and their families attempt to leave. Complicating matters, one of the victims of the disease is released, biting hundreds. Soon, the area is quarantined, and anyone entering or exiting without a reason is shot. Overseas, US military strength wanes, as troops are pulled from Iraq and Afghanistan to combat trouble at home. S. Korea, knowing it will lose US troops, starts to bolster its military. Riots in France effectively shut down the government, as the president and many officials flee to the country in order to keep the government running. Brazilian Amazon tribes are flocking to the cities, carrying reports of catatonic creatures impervious to weapons.
Day 8- The situations in New York, New Orleans, and Detroit continue to deteriorate. Doomsday cults are rumored to be springing up in the affected areas, along with bands of survivors trying to contact the government. The pope announces that this is not a divine punishment, and urges Catholics to rally to the faith and aid authorities in any way possible. The public in much of the world has taken to calling the affected "zombies".
Day 9- The situation in Detroit is deteriorating, as zombies start to break through the barricades surrounding the city. Only a few living remain inside the limits. Scientists have yet to find a cause for the outbreak, though a virus is stated as the most likely candidate. Pundits pass this off as "Romero's next big release". Las Vegas reports multiple encounters of the zombies, reporting that tourists are jamming the airport. Manhattan island is reported to be the most infected part of the eastern seaboard, with officials truly considering sealing it off. Ports worldwide are flooded with people desperate to board ships and leave for the safety of the sea. This proves false, however, when some passengers bring infected relatives on board, in the false assumption that they would see the disease through. Such "dead boats" are ordered to be sunk on sight by all navies.
Day 10- The Iranian government falls to massed student protests,but this proves worthless when infected appear in the middle of the turmoil. Soon, there are no major communications coming out of Tehran. Chinese cities, due to massed overcrowding, see the worst of the disease, with entire divisions of the PLA being called out to combat the threat. Japan is little better, as the Tokyo police are finding it increasingly difficult to get a handle on the growing number of undead. Scientists in Switzerland have formally announced that the victims are, medically, dead. However, their circulatory and nervous systems remain operable, though the exact reason "has yet to be discovered". N. Korea is effectively dead, since not even state broadcasts have been heard in the past four days. Russia, now seeing rising numbers of infected, enacts a policy of "scorch and burn", where all infected are destroyed on discovery, and their homes and possessions burned, in the belief this will keep the disease from spreading.
Day 11- Detroit is declared lost, as thousands make one last desperate flight from the city. Inside, embattled survivors battle cult members who see the zombies as "a higher form of life", and try to spread it outside the city limits. Massed bombing of the city is initiated, though this proves futile, as the zombies are found to survive even the most horrendous injuries.
Day 12- Africa is effectively dead, but western news agencies fail to realize this due to the continents instability. Even the fact that many nations have not been contacted in days is no reason for concern, as networks such as CNN, Fox News, and publications like Time magazine, are concentrating on the Western outbreaks more than Africa. Europe has had surprising few problems with containment, due to their high proportion of special forces trained for anything, but the common people are having trouble grasping how this could happen, as science still hasn't found an answer. When the queen of England dies, rumor spreads like wildfire that she was a zombie and had to be enthused.
Day 13- Tokyo is the first sight of a massive outbreak, when a lab technician sees a relative infected and tries to hurry them outside so they don't get tested like the others. But how the Japanese tested the undead is revealed later. For now, all of Tokyo is being infected more and more. The JSDF is overwhelmed and has to pull out to the country, while a small group of SAT and JSDF are holed up in the airport off the coast. S. Korea makes small forays into the North, and so far has discovered many small towns have been razed to the ground. However, in searching the bodies, they discover that some haven't been turned yet. In fact, some were very much alive when killed. However, the searches are called of when massive numbers of undead start attacking the scouting groups. Russia is becoming increasingly desperate, as survivors from the tundra start flooding cities, bringing infected with them. Vladivostok naval base is reporting ever increasing encounters, while St. Petersburg is becoming a dead city. Similar incidents are reported in Mexico, China, Brazil and India.
Day 14- The UN reports that at least five countries have been destroyed due to the now official "Zombie Pandemic". The countries lost appear to be N. Korea, Swaziland, Peru, Haiti, Costa Rica and Jamaica. The reasoning for the Caribbean is that with the strong sense of voodoo traditions, it became impossible for doctors and other professionals to stop the undead, as they were protected by relatives who thought them to be controlled by a witch doctor. In the US, Texas has organized "Neighborhood Sweep Patrols", made to clear unoccupied houses of the undead. In Louisiana, the general consensus is that New Orleans is lost, and the government starts pulling troops out. In Detroit, a broadcast is received by the government. However, it is not from survivors, as initially hoped. Instead, it is from a cult calling itself "The Renewed Earth". Claiming that humans are unfit to serve as the planets caretakers, these "new lifeforms" will regulate us, keeping our destructive tendencies in check. The government responds by triangulating the transmission, then sending multiple MOABs to that point. The blasts, along with the shock wave, obliterate whole blocks of the city.
Day 15- A dead ship lands of Normandy, and, for a second time, the beach is stormed. However, there is no army present to put up an defense, and, in what is later described as a "sick parody" thousands of undead swarm the coastal towns, causing the French government to order massive bombings. Science is still unclear as to the origins of the pandemic, though they have agreed that the primary cause is viral transmission. The situation is Japan continues to deteriorate, as increased numbers of undead shamble about the city. There are survivors, and some have even found equipment that enable them to aid the JASDF in making bombing runs in areas of highly concentrated numbers of undead.
Day 16- The situation worldwide is now somewhat stable. Even with the plague still spreading , the rest of America quickly falls into order, after searching "zombie defense" on the Internet. The Amazon rain forest is effectively abandoned, as the majority of tribes are now encamped in the major cities. Scattered reports suggest that some tribes are still alive, but these are passed off as rumors. Reports coming out of Europe are more disturbing. Italy, with its high number of mountain towns, it swamped with requests for aid. When military forces arrive, however, they find either few survivors or none at all. Africa is still ignored, though bloggers soon pick up on the fact that all African news has been strangely quiet. Oil is growing increasingly scarce, as workers and technicians refuse to leave their families to the threat of the undead. This increases the already strained American economy, where gas is now $5 a gallon.
Day 20- South Korea sends troops back over the border and once more finds villages filled with bodies, some bearing evidence that they were alive when killed.Securing the bodies, the troops quickly pull back over the border and give the bodies to national scientists. The initial results point to gunshot wounds. Initial forays into Detroit find some survivors near the edge of the containment zone. Deeper in, survivors of "Renewed Earth" are found and subsequently arrested or killed, depending on the level of hostility. The teams sent in go no further, though, as the sheer number of undead are to large to handle. Instead, the containment zone slowly moves forward, sweeping out any Z's uncovered. Texas has been most effective at controlling the zombie problem, as the NSTs already in place have cleared Dallas, San Antonio and Austin significantly. As an almost humerous and uplifting sidenote, sales of George Romero movies have jumped, and hundreds are quickly learning what to look for. However, no government has released any official statement on what to look for.
Day 27- Japan's infection rate has hit a plateu, and is keeping to a constant rate. The JSDF is following the same strategy as America's forces, slowly advancing through the horde. Now that the situation worldwide has hit a stable area, news agencies are starting to realize that Africa is almost completely silent. The Middle East has suffered tremendous casualties, based on the large number of suicide bombings that have taken place over the past month. US forces are still present, along with their allies. India has had some success, though this has been limited. According to the European Union, most of the continent has been cleared, though Italy is still having problems.

People are brought to hospitals spreading disease to surgeons and doctors and other staff, Safety masks are useless.
Day 3
Infected take on new symptom of cannibalism infecting more humans. Citizens smuggle family members with symptoms to other cities across the border and further north spreading the disease. The infected break free of the hospital and start infecting and killing civilians.
Day 4
New york, Ottawa, Montreal and Chicago experience people with same symptoms, Rioting and looting are present in Toronto as hundreds flee the city hoping not to be infected only spreading the disease. Law enforcement are fighting back against rioters and Police having no affect against the zombies they flee out of the city, some containing the disease.
Day 5
New york,Ottawa, Montreal and Chicago have riots and looting Steven Harper is killed by rioters
Parliament buildings are destroyed and Canadian troops are brought back from the middle east to help contain the problem in Canada. Toronto is abandoned except fro survivors and zombies.Washington Boston New Jersey Brooklyn Halifax Quebec city anf Fredericton are starting to experience similar symptoms. Many leave these cities fleeing into the country.
Day 6
The US sends troops to contain New york while law enforcement secure US cities along the eastern sea board.Canadian cities are in mayhem as riots break out in Victoria Calgary Edmonton Regina Winnipeg and Vancouver with no army to contain them Canada goes to hell. Infection seems to not be spreading more northern then Churchill Manitoba. PEI is under quarantine and Toronto is nuked by US trying to eliminate source of infection. Eastern seaboard is desolate and disease spreads across North America. Ottawa is under war between 2 surviving groups.
Day 7
Toronto is a desolate wasteland, eastern Canada is entirely infected besides PEI and Newfoundland due to quarantine. Western Canada is A war zone between refuges zombies and law enforcements. Most of US is infected western coast is in riots and looting, people are being killed in riots and law enforcements is entirely wiped out by rioters. Other nations hope that disease will not spread. Mexico is taking disease badly very fast and death toll is in tens of thousands. Central America is preparing for the worst, eastern north America is entirely destroyed very little life is found and New york is completely life less.
Day 8
South America is experiencing infection. Tribesmen flee into the cities telling of infected beasts that can not be killed,
apparently the infection has crossed breeds with most animals, North America is wiped out. PEI is silent and Newfoundland is suffering heavy casualties and heading for St John. Other nations are not getting involved, Word spreads that the Caribbean is using witch doctorery and voodoo to be cured by eating the bodies of the dead only spreading disease faster.
Day 9
US, Canada, Mexico, all of central America and Caribbean are desolate. Newfoundland land has set sail to the seas only bringing the disease with them and dying at sea. South America is under a war of tribesmen and undead, the big cities have been destroyed in a series of extremely serious earthquakes destroying them beyond repair.
Day 10
All of South Central and North America is silent. The rest of the world is convinced that the worst is over. The next 40 days are hectic as the trade routes are rewired and then everything normal once again.
Day 50
A boat with no passengers washes ashore on the French coast. The Area is closed of and anyone near it without authorization is shot on sight. Scientists examine the boat becoming infected and bring it to Paris spreading it and starting the disease again.
Day 51
Mankind is rioting all over the world at the sudden appearance of the disease in Paris is spreading more rapidly then before only in 1 day nearly 700 thousand have been killed. Every nation willing to live locks down and waits for the worst.
Day 52
The disease evolves and becomes airborne spreading across the world in hours and within 1 hour of this news mankind is loaded into bunkers to wait it out, Unknown to all of them that the disease was within most of them already, most die days later in the bunkers. Only 3 bunkers are left and 1 opens and mankind is exposed once again , the other 2 stay shut for several years before opening and starting to reclaim earth. This soon leads to war between the to bunkers and starting up the human goal for dominance.
UnUndead's prediction, based on Solanum Zs:
Day 1: Some hobo in New York City (any city would work. This is an example) gets infected, and bites several other hobos because they're right next to him on the sidewalk. You may hear about some crazy, starving drunk getting too desperate for food on the news.
Day 2: All the hobos that were bitten turn into Zs, and repeat the process. Right now there are less than ten Zs, so no one really notices. The only way you'll find out is if you happen to see one eating a hobo as you walk to work/school/gym/etc.
Day 3: Now there are as many as fifty Zs, and they've started attacking random passersby. Most people who are bit today go to the hospital, and some of the tourists and business people who are bit go back home or to other cities, and maybe overseas. You hear reports of violent murders and cannibalism. Police arrest many Zs, but not before they've bitten as many as five people each, and many of the police are bitten. People start panicking and rioting. Any arrested Zs infect their cell mates, and during mealtime possibly the whole jails. By the end of the day, there are probably less than twenty Zs, most having been killed by people who have watched Dawn of the Dead more than ten times, or visit this website regularly, but there are hundreds of infected people.
Day 4: The jail and hospital are overrun; almost everyone in either building is a Z. They come out of the jail and hospital in hundreds, feasting on the people in the streets. There's major rioting, looting, and fleeing going on, and the streets in the vicinities of the jail and hospital quickly become packed with cars.A few local media stations finally start reporting that these are indeed the undead, and they tell people to leave the city. People, some with infected family members, listen, and further spread the infection. Several doomsday cults are started as a result of the news reports. National media calls the reports a "sick joke made to inspire fear," and/or "a terrorist's message of hate."
Day 5: The areas around the jail and hospital are heavily infected, and riot police are struggling to keep the Zs at bay. Major news stations report riots caused by cannibalistic revolutionaries or a crazy religious group. The areas are quarantined and barricades are erected. Police are ordered to kill rioters on sight. The barricades hold, but many police are bitten, and most Zs that die are killed by accident.
Day 6: Bitten police wake up as Zs and infect their families all over the city. Police have noticed that you can blow holes the size of fists through the "rioters'" chests and they keep walking. The barricades break as police freak out and desert, with the intent of saving their families. As many as half a thousand Zs are unleashed upon the city.
Day 7: The outbreak has reached class three, with Zs numbering in the thousands. The vast majority of Zs are still within ten miles of either the hospital or jail, while the rest are scattered throughout the city. News reports say that the revolutionaries have taken over a portion of New York, and have converted many members.
Day 8: You start hearing news reports of cannibalistic rioters in other major cities, both in the U.S. and in other countries. There are now over ten thousand Zs in New York, and other major cities are about four days behind. Although this may seem like a huge number, it's really only a small fraction of New York's population. Some cities and countries react better than others, but few can actually hold off the undead.
Day 9: Zs in New York number at above fifty thousand. Martial law has been declared, and the military is called out of whatever country it happens to be invading at the time of the outbreak to fight the Zs. The soldiers are told that they are rioters. They're deadishness is explained away, as are all the weird things about them. They are told to shoot for the heads of the rioters, and not to let anyone out of the city until they've been checked by a team of doctors.
Day 10: The state of New York continues to decline. Zs number anywhere from two to four hundred thousand. The Caribbean and areas in Africa where Voodoo is prominent have caught up to it ( in terms of human:zombie ratio), though, and most third world countries are having a very rough time.
Day 11: U.S. troops begin to try to take New York, but are outnumbered by Zs, because now the U.S. is dedicating troops to preventing infection from reaching critical levels in other cities, and only sends twenty thousand men to New York. On top of that, actual rioters and doomsday cults are attacking the military for supplies and weapons. When the people see how slow evacuation is, many start trying to run past the soldiers. Freaked out, the soldiers start firing into the masses, failing to hit many in the head. The infected that were shot get up as Zs shortly afterward. This, of course, freaks out the troops like nothing else could, and they break and run, leaving the city infected.
In other cities, the military is more successful than in New York. In several cities (mostly those without big hospitals or jails), all Zs are killed, along with most of the infected. In most, Zs are almost wiped out before the troops are overrun. Predominantly Voodoo practicing and many third world counties are nearly overrun, while most European countries and Australia are a few days behind the United States. Russia, Northern Canada, and northern Europe have not had many problems with the undead. With the turmoil farther south, these areas have started restricting tourism and immigration from southern countries. The utterly uninteresting and rural areas are having almost no problems with zombies.
NOTE: I'm not sure about Asia, as I'm not familiar with its cultures, history, or countries' laws.

Day 0
Scattered news reports of “strange” civil disorder; A sharp spike in Domestic Violence and bar fights.
Day 1
Reports of several riots, especially in areas unknown for rioting; In my hometown (Sacramento), one might be McKinley Park area. Another Broadway (west of 27th street).
Day 2
Institution of martial law; Reports now clarifying, anyone who was bitten is now known to be infected. Infected persons are being incarcerated until they actually turn, in singles if possible, shackled when not.
Day 3
Mass martial law imposed. Civic leaders are authorized to instill emergency measures “at the needs of the public good.” Dusk to dawn curfews are standard operating procedure now- Police are ordered to shoot to kill any person who they see on the streets (possibly outside their home) unless said home is on fire or 911 is called in advance.
Day 4
Either the dawn is going to break, or it’s not, right here; Either the first reports of successful containment start to come in, or the first reports that communication with some cities was lost.
Day 5
Those cities that lost containment are now contained by the National Guard and Army units; Infected or not, all refugees from those cities are to be shot on sight. (Possibly designated evacuee sites and protocols, such as say “State Fair Grounds, wear orange to be identified as uninfected”, may be issued- If you can hear the msg. Most people will not be able to receive these ’s, and be shot on sight.)
Day 6
This is where containment is tested. The cities that did fall will by now be encircled and eradicated; Those holed up inside may well be eradicated, infected or not.
We now fast forward about a month; We start to see cities ‘cleansing’ as the few survivors are eliminated. We can expect the crisis to last another 6 months or so, before the last few rpt’s of individual zombies wandering into isolated areas, being killed by military units sent to eliminate such threats; All uninfected survivors in those areas would have long ago been evacuated, but tripwire traps (traps that do not necessarily kill or even injure, just alert others to the unauthorized presence, much like a security alarm) are in place to get the attention of armed response (probably attack helicopters).
Richboy's Idea of How It Starts
This has Dawn of the Dead running zombies that can't be killed by any method other than severe trauma to the brain or removal of the head. These are brought back to life, regardless of death from bite or any other method besides head trauma or decapitation.
Part 1- News reports say of strange cannibalism, odd bites, and people who have been reported dead returning to life. The number of zombies is only 1,000.
Part 2- A news reporter films a zombie (called a "crazy" over the television). The "crazy" bites over 20 people and is shot over 20 times before it is killed. The number of zombies is in 3,500-5,000.
Part 3- Riots start in New York City, Los Angeles, and Detroit. Many believe the riots are racially motivated, but they are for supplies and shelter. Zombies get into the riot and bite hundreds, if not thousands. The infection has now spread to Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain. Martial law is declared. The number of zombies is from 10,000 to 25,000.
Part 4- The president calls all soldiers back to the United States and orders police to shoot anyone caught wondering the streets. The Prime Minister of Great Britain and the President of the United States of America, along with many other wealthy and/or famous world leaders and celebs head to an undisclosed location. The infection has hit mainland Europe and South America. The number of zombies is between 50,000 to 150,000.
Part 5- All communication with North America is lost except for a line with a group of survivors in Los Angeles who plead for supplies and rescue from the "demons". A pedestrian in Germany films "a drunken hobo" biting many people and being shot 25 times. The Pope prays live over the Internet and television for the demons to stop, about 25 minutes before the zombies get into the Vatican and infect every person there due to the lack of any security. The number of zombies is about 250,000.
Part 6-All contact with either of the Americas is lost, along with all of Great Britain, Cuba, and Iceland. A nuclear missile hits Israel, which is later revealed to be from the Russians, who blame this on the Jews, homosexuals, and Americans as a whole. Gas in uninfected countries cost at least $50.00. The number of zombies is around 10 million.
Part 7- The infection has now reached Asia. It has also reached Africa, but it takes the undead over 1 month to pass the Sahara desert. A rebel group claims the disease is a "punishment from God" for sins such as homosexuals, abortions, murder, and global warning. There is no idea where the transmission comes from, although it is obvious that they are in peril, as many zombie moans are heard. The number of zombies is around 100 million.
Part 8- Uninfected countries such as China, Russia, and the Koreas combine their armies and begin to retake Europe with relatively low casualties. However, the Americas are still overtaken. The number of zombies is around 150 million.
Part 9- Satellites fall from the sky in many areas, and contact with anyone in outer space is lost, implying they have all died. An amateur film shows a single man sniping over 100 zombies alone in New York with a Dragunov sniper rifle from the 18th floor of the Empire State Building. The number of zombies is around 250 million.
Part 10- A ship full of zombies is found floating in the middle of the Atlantic, and a map on board implies they were headed from Boston to London, unknowing that London was overtaken itself. Truckers in America, who call themselves the "Devil Rebels", film themselves in Las Vegas, Nevada. They pick up over 1,000 dead zombie bodies and put them in a semi. They later show a video of the bodies being dumped into a giant hole in the ground, revealed to be a past construction site. The number of zombies is around 300
million.
Part 10- An earthquake is felt in Beijing with a magnitude of 10.0 and a tsunami hits Tokyo, killing perhaps millions and actually bringing undead onto the shore of Japan. The Sears Tower in Chicago, Illinois is filmed collapsing by an man named Steven Spielberg, who said that he "missed his boat that was headed to the Artic". New York City is nuked. The number of zombies is over 400 million.
Part 11- Most of Japan is overrun, and the location of the many famous and wealthy people is revealed to be in the North Pole. Many people head to the North Pole, and some end up unknowingly in Russia, Iceland, Greenland, and Norway, and some even on the South Pole due to poor sea knowledge. The number of zombies is over 500 million.
Part 12- A boat full of over 250 survivors arrives in the Artic, while bringing multiple zombies. Several people die of exposure and bites, along with being shot by security, who are protecting the celebrities who are in an extremely large tent. The survivors shoot back at and succesfully kill the security, who turn into zombies and run into the tent, and kill nearly all of the celebrities, since very few were armed and very few of the armed people actually knew how to use the gun well. The number of zombies is near 1 billion, as every country excluding Australia, New Zealand, island nations that aren't in the Carribean, and South Africa are now infected.
Part 13- Well, here's were you get to pick whether the Earth withers and dies or is just rebuilt. Do most of the zombies die, or do they take the remaining few countries? Does the Russian government decide to kill the remaining few countries, or the North Pole, or just chop off it's own head? You shall decide.
