Introduction:

Mushrooms will both be your enemy and friend in wilderness survival. They will be everywhere once Z day comes, with many structures abandoned and gone to rot, favorable conditions for mushroom growth increase significantly. Mushrooms can already be found world wide, however the most notable areas where they're found is in woodland, or forest. They prefer damp, shady conditions.

Before I go further, I would like to point out that mushrooms are almost entirely forage-ables. It is incredibly hard to master the cultivation technique for one species of mushroom, and then it is rarely interchangeable for other mushroom species.

Locations

As mentioned previously, mushrooms like to grow in woodlands. Some mushrooms have a mutual relation ship with trees, and plants, however most of the time they are simply feeding off of the rich soil provided by rotting tree trunks, etc.
Mushrooms are like people. You have the socially dry no life nerds who like to stay away from moisture, and you have the socially drowning popular people who have all the friends. Most shrooms aren't too far on either end however, and they are the ordinary people. What I'm getting at is that you must remember that dry or aqueous environments almost never have mushrooms. Look in places that are damp, but neither too dry or wet.
Most mushrooms are on the ground, however some grow on trees, like the shrooms growing on the pine tree on the right.

Dont eat death caps... OR ELSE!Some mushrooms are immensely poisonous. Some areas have warning signs against eating mushrooms. Tourists see the death cap mushroom (which looks like store bought button mushrooms) and pick it, thinking that they have an edible mushroom like in store. Nothing can be more incorrect.

If people don't know how to identify mushrooms, and they don't have a specialist with them, how do you expect them to survive? Not to be mean, but I'm just saying.
Do you find this valuable?
