ToT time, kiddies. What sort of materials/barricades would and wouldn't you use? When in doubt, consider a small, 2-story suburban house.

First, the obvious one: Wooden Planks

MajorDamage Bug out locations- Ready made compounds/defendable fortresses 7 Sep 29 2009, 9:34 AM EDT by ButtonsMcD

In the interest of the community, for those who currently do not have a defendable position (long term) or a suitable bug out location, this website may help:

http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/house-of-the-day.html

Some of these places (for sale pre-Z-day) are clearly in the 'OMG" category of places to live. When I see these various homes, I consider the following criteria:
amount of land
location in relation to population/resources
inherent built-in defenses
amount of effort required to establish/expand defense in depth
capacity (how many can reside comfortably), standard and max capacity (short term storage of people)
vehicle capacity

Since this is a sales site, it will change on offerings, however, the real estate doesn't move. Since most if not all of us do not have the financial resources to build/buy most of these homes currently, should any of them be located near you come Z-day, well.

As for me, design ideas and costs keep my interest.

hellpig how to defend your fort from the undead 3 Jul 19 2009, 5:17 PM EDT by hellpig

well u've covered food water electricity but now how will u stop the undead from breaking in. well if you can gain access to a couple of cement trucks and building supplies select a remote place i would suggest trying to get the l00t up were its colder like into Canada or alaska. build your wall with your materials. make sure its big. now if you were smart and built it in a forest area and assuming you have alot of people in your group-10-50 then use chain saws and cut down surrounding trees quickly take them back to your fort. begin sawing planks and build at least one large watch tower right in the middle. set up mounted guns and snipers up there. gather wood/metal for houses and build cotts. take a large solar pannel and lots of iron bars and make a main gate with the iron/steel bars then attach the solar pannel up high were it will get sun and connect the wires to the gate. ELECTRIFIED GATE!! if they dont survive the run past the snipers and gatlin guns theyll be zapped to hell by the gate. and for main power get many big solar pannels and attach them to the top of the watch tower. ok i suppose you pyros and explosive technitions(sp?) would know how to make a land mine. put those all around your fort so when one of them goes off ull hear em comeing also it may be smart to put electrofied barb wire around the top just incase. all ways keep guards on duty around the clock. and never give anyone ( thats not in a good mental state or is scared or really sick) a gun. also if anyone is ever bitten shoot them without hesitating. well thats it guys im tired and i may work on it some more give mE so MORE GREAT IDEAS
