Groups?
As you have probably guessed, this page covers zombie survivalism in groups.Obviously, there are the basic advantages of numerical firepower and shared resources, but there are downsides, such as un-trustworthy companions and zombie attraction(the more living flesh, the more they are drawn to you).
WE will cover 5 basic sections:
-Pro's and Con's
-Logistics
-Trust and Morale
-Skill and Knowledge
-Zombie Reaction
1.Pro's & Con's
This is the section where we will see the ups and downs of grouping with other survivors.
Pro-Grouping
Groups Allow more firepower, knowledge and resources to be shared amongst survivors, increasing your chances of survival against starvation and raiders.Raiders like easy, weak targets rather than more serious groups of armed people. In terms of firepower,in a group, with co-ordination and basic skill, you could fight off anything from overmutated zees to hordes of the undead.Your also more likely to be able to construct a survival "base" if your intention is to "bug in" than if you were by yourself.
Anti-Grouping
Grouping with other survivors does pose it's fair share of risks though, mainly the fact that you will need to locate and utilize more resources than an individual, your more exposed and visible to zees and LARGE contingents of raiders. You also face problems like run-away theives,un-trustworthy companions and special needs individuals, who will pose a strain on your chances of survival.
It's ultimately your choice, but my recomendation is FOR grouping.
2.Logistics
We will go more in-depth to the subject of Logistics, which is the resources, knowledge and resource-usage of a group.Of course your going to consume more food, more water, more ammo and more fuel in a group than as an individual, requiring more resources to be gathered, but you may find it easier to locate resources as a group, having the ability to search/scrounge much more quickly. You also face the dillema of having to "get-around".If your plan is simply by foot, expect lots of action against raiders and zees, you will come across them often, and will have to engage them at some point in time.If by motor-vehicle,then you will need to have enough space/vehicles to transport all of your members(plus extra ones you may come across) as well as supplies of fuel(which would require you to scrounge fuel stations and gas depots). This may be made easier having multiple eyes at once, able to scout out gas stations, supermarkets and the like.........
3.Trust & Morale
Another big problem you face is trust and morale, can you trust you fellow companions not to steal,or to inform you if they are infected,as well as keeping them sane enough to NOT commit suicide of abdicate. This can be dealt with in numerous ways:
-An Observation System(Take Turns guarding the precious food and water supplies, and all taking part in even rationing)
This would involve taking turns, requiring the most trust but boosting morale. It allows everyone to have a turn at being "the leader" and makes it seem,to a degree, fair".
-An Iron Fist System(Total Control, usually results in abdication and theivery)
This would mean you and MAYBE your closest associates have TOTAL control over the other survivors, and use the threat of either banishment or death to enforce your rule. This disuades non-acceptable behaviour, but demoralizes people over time.
-An "Each man for himself" approach, where you stick, fight and eat together, but at the end of the day,it's more important to save your own hide than the others.
Skill & Knowledge
This evaluates each members strengths and weaknesses, you will obviously want fit, agile persons who are skilled in basic and advanced weapons handling as the "troops" ,and the doctors and medical practicioners as "medics",engineers and construction workers as "engineers and buildiers" and people with good social skills and the gift of the gab to be "speakers".Making sure everyone in the group has a relevant and useful role will increase chances of survival,as everyone becomes a worthwhile asset.
Ensure that you have a supply of basic survivalist literature and constantly reffer to it(World War Z for example)
