The most important part of any survival philosophy or any survival plan is to be prepared. Without preparedness any survival plan or philosophy falls apart. You need to be prepared, having everything you need to survive in your possession before SHTF, because once it does you cant guarantee that you will have what you need.
So we all talk about the things we need to survive a zombie attack....guns, ammo, food, gear, but when we start making a list of what we have vs what we need, we often realize that we come up short. If you are like me and dont have most of gear ready for SHTF, or if you are a beginner and have little or nothing for survival; that list becomes very daunting. Where do you start?
This is where my survival philosophy begins:
Surviving a zombie attack is very similar to surviving any other disaster (except other disaster dont have creatures that are trying to eat you). It doesnt matter if its an earthquake, tornado, or the occasional zombie outbreak surviving them is the same. How are they the same? Well, in each and every scenario you have to provide FOR YOURSELF the same things: food, water, shelter, security, and creature comforts.
Any one of these things are something that most of us depend on another person or "the system" to provide for us.
Most, if not all, of us get our food from restuarants and grocery stores. Very few people today actually grow their own food, or hunt it. Once the zombies come, the machine will come to a screeching hault, and there wont be anyone growing food FOR YOU, delivering it to the store, and stocking the shelves so you can go buy it. Every large food store, such as Walmart and Kroger have what is called "just in time inventory". Which means that whatever they sell in a given day, an order is placed for those items and the next day replacement items arrive on the truck and the shelves are replenished. This happens everyday. If Walmart had a warehouse problem and the daily deliveries of inventory stopped, Walmart would only have a few days worth of food on their shelves. This is the same for every large chain store.

there are alot things we need to survive. most of them we take for granted everyday but wouldnt notice it till SHTF and it is gone. when i began prepping, it was overwhelming to think of all the things i need on a limited budget. i tried to prioritize them so i could most efficiently prepare. this is what i have discovered as the priorities of survival. and they are in this order
1. food/water. cant live without it. you might ask "arent guns more important that food?" well, let me ask you this "how many times in your life have you needed to use deadly force to protect yourself?" and "how many times have you had to eat/drink to stay alive?" food/water takes predominance over every other priority because without it we die anyway.
2. shelter. shelter is the second important, because without shelter we are out in the open exposed to any attack. weather can kill us, and shelter allows us to hide from possible attackers. shelter is more important than guns/defense because it is the cornerstone of defense from an attack. you need a good place to stand with something between you and an attacker to most effectively defend yourself
3. defense/weaponry. this one says it for itself.... we need weaponry for self defense, but its not the top priority because we can usually avoid an attack or hide in shelter from it, but push comes to shove and we need weaponry to give us an edge on self defense. especially when our attacker has some weapons.
4. energy. its lower on the list of priorities since humanity has survived thousands of years without it, but energy is a great thing to have. it helps us get more work done, it helps us stay warmer which buffs our shelter priority and we can travel great distances with it.
5. creature comforts. dont think that just because the S has hit the F that we have to live like animals...destitute and eating grool.

Air! Everyone forgets air. You got about three minutes. . . .
Various quantities of gas, smoke even a sufficiently bad smell can impair or incapacitate. _

"im not finished yet. yes, i wanted to start with the "why" of being prepared, next i would like to move on with the "how". maybe finish with some unconventional survival tools and/or skills then have a short summary paragraph to tie it all together" Right, but you need to explain what that means, too. Mental preparedness? Long term substance? Situational preparedness?
