Remember kids that the key to SURVIVAL is the practicality of your choice of weapons. I'm blown away at why there would even be a section like this!!! if there is access to anti-personel/armour weaponry, which there ISNT, it wouldn't be viable to carry a Javelin or a Stinger on your back. Any idea how hard it's going to be to find ammunition for these weapons post z-day??

U.S. Armament is offering a reproduction of one of the last models of gatling gun ever built. the 1877 Bulldog. And according to them, you don't need a special liscense to own it, it transfers the same as a standard long gun

Even by the time you reach belt fed, you are moving into what is called crew served weapons. These devices require lots of training, and at least a squad, usually a platoon to carry all the parts and ammo. What on earth, do you plan to do, with a rocket launcher and 1 or 2 rockets? Unless you are traveling with a convoy of 6xbi trucks, or a ship, all this cool stuff won't do you much good. While they would be handy to have in a static armory in your fort, it is out of the question to consider lugging it around by yourself. Not to mention these toys are highly restrictive and usually only available to military units. Fun to think about though.

i have been trained on the 50 cal, the saw, m240, m203, and the AT4 and i will say they are all very good and amazing weapons. my personal favorite is the saw i put mine through hell and back and it always worked perfect.

One machine gun you guys should consider is the American 180 it is a 22lr or.22 Short Magnum it's a pretty good submachine gun that usally has a 200 round magizine and has almost no recoil I know the cartridge is not all that powerful but theres not much that can withstand 20 or so rounds

What would the actual use of any rocket-propelled grenade be in a zombie-armeggedon? As clearly explained in the Zombie Survival Guide, grenades have little affect on zombies. it would also be a massive loss of money for any of these weapons, which could be spent more wisely on a rifle and ammo. The only reasonable use for these weapons is against human marauders or an insane soldier in a tank.

Taken and paraphrased from Wikipedia or my memory: The M240 is the US replacement for the M60. It's chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and has a few variants you may see. It is strictly belt fed. The recommended burst is 7 rounds to prevent jamming. Just like the M249, barrel change is as easy as flipping a switch and pulling it out. I remember being able to field strip one of these and put it back together in less than a minute.
The M240G and M240B are the common crew served weapon you see many soldiers and Marines using. The only main difference between the two is that the M240B has a front heat guard, making it a few pounds heavier. The M240E1 is a version found on ground vehicles and aircraft. This can be identified by the spade grips. An M240E1 can be converted into an M240G with an "egress kit" or "infantry modification kit" which gives it a flash suppressor, front sight, carrying handle for the barrel, a buttstock, infantry length pistol grip, bipod, and rear sight assembly. You will also see these mounted as coaxial weapons in LAVs and Bradleys. From a personal standpoint as a former LAV crewman, I LOVE this gun. It's reliable, easy to operate and clean, and makes a healthy dakka dakka dakka sound when fired. I'd recommend adding to this page since this will be a common weapon found on military vehicles in the United States. Since it's chambered in 7.62 NATO, this will help you identify ammo easier if you find one while scavenging.

Load a billard ball into a potato cannon. Spray the inside with axe body spray for about 20 seconds for good measure. It would probably blow the head off of a Zed (and then some).

Is it just me or did most of these say ILLEGAL in the civilian ownership column? Personally I live just down the street from a gun store. I think youd be better off stocking up on commonly used civilian weapons (especially since you'll find the most ammo for those).

The problems with the weapons other than getting them and the price is a couple of things. 1) collateral damage - just because you may or may not hit what you are aiming for other things can and will get blown up with the zombies. Say for instance you accidentally hit your perimeter wall now allowing more zombies to get in or when the fight is all said and done you now have to get some or your precious supplies and rebuild said wall. And possibly the more important problem..2) There is a kill and casualty radius with these weapons. As with all explosives it is not pin point accuracy with these. They are designed and made to cause a lot of damage. So having said that there is a very good possibility that you could either injure yourself or another one of the people with you. I am active duty and actually an EOD tech so if you really want to know I can get the kill and casualty radius if you want to know but your best bet is to stay away from explosives unless you have prior experience and just stick to your basic guns.

when it comes to it seems like it would be more easier to make your own rockets and use them as some kind of artillery rather than trying to find a blackpowder canon i already have made a desighn for a rocket and the materials ill need which will be easily found and scavenged the only diffucult part would be to make it explode on impact i would need to find out how to make primers because i could just use a fuse to set them off. and a metal tube to put them in

Shouldn't this page also consider the combat effectiveness against both humans and zombies? Would these weapons destroy a zombies brain even if you missed by a 1 foot or 10 feet?

Many castles have got cannons already mounted on battlements, with the cannonballs beside them. Only problem is the fuses and the gunpowder. My BOB would contain string and I'd get gunpowder when I get guns.
