Basic Herbal Medicine
This covers basic problems that need treatment so that minor problems do not become major ones. Most of the herbs in this are easily found in the spice isle or even fresh in the produce department at any grocery store. Pharmacies carry some items as well. Also most topiary carry these and things like the Aloe Vera plant are easily identified. There are more herbal remedies out there for all kinds of ailments, I just posted the ones that will be more common. If anyone needs information on a specific thing, post a thread and I'll get the info you need.

Prep Methods
Infusions: 1-2 teaspoons of dried herb (2-4 teaspoons of fresh) to a cup of boiling water. Infuse for 10 minutes before straining. If left too long it will become bitter. Ceramic pot with lid recommended. Drink one cup 3 times a day, hot or cold. Don't make more than 24 hours in advance.

Decoctions:For bark and seeds. 1-2 teaspoons per cup of cold water. Boil. Keep covered and simmer for 10 minutes. 1 cup 3 times a day. If bitter use 4 teaspoons 3 times a day. Don't make more than 24 hours in advance.

Tincture: 4oz of dried herb in glass jar with lid, add 2 cups vodka. Leave for 2 weeks, shaking occasionally, strain through cloth into brown glass bottle. The tint helps with light exposure. 15 drops, 3 times daily. (Be sure you know how each plant responds to being used in a tincture. Some that are fine for infusions or decoctions can become lethal in tincture form and vice versa.)

Syrup: Sugar is a good preservative. 2 cups of infusion or decoction of herb. Strain and add 1¾ cup brown sugar of honey/sugar mixture. Heat until sugar dissolves. Pour into bottle, seal, and refrigerate. 1 tsp/ 3 times daily.

Oil Infusion: EXTERNAL USE. Fill a jar with fresh herb and cover with olive oil. Place jar in pot of water (Waterline should be at neck of bottle). Simmer for 3 hours and strain through filter paper or cloth into brown glass bottle.

Ointment: Melt petroleum jelly in double boiler and add herbs. Jelly should cover herbs. Simmer until crisp. Strain into jars while hot.

Compress:Soak cloth in hot decoction of herb, wring out and apply to affected area. Repeat when cloth is cool.

Poultice: Good for boil, abscesses, chest infections and sprains. Mix chopped herb or powdered seeds with boiling water to make a pulp. Place pulp in cloth and apply to affected area while hot. Replace when cool. Be careful it's gets sticky

Yellow cooking onions. What you do is take a nice sized on. cut the top and the root off (Keep root end to plant), take the skin off, now cut the onion into quarters. Now take a soup pot, put the onions into the pot and cover with water. Let it boil, once it starts to boil add at least a cup of (just regular) sugar. You are able to add more sugar, I normally add about 3 cups. Now let this boil down until it is syrup, the onions will be translucent and soft. Once its down to a syrup, move off of the heat. Once its cooled down a bit. If you have a bad cough take 2 tablespoons full of it (make sure that you have tissues and a trash can near you for everything that you are about to bring up). If you are not planing to use it right away you are able to put it into an old cough syrup bottle or another close container. It is able to keep about a month or so. But if you are thinking about storing the cough syrup I would double the amount of onions and sugar.
Believe me this works like a charm when you have a chest cold. It works better then the cough syrup that you get from the doctors. My family doctor calls it "Hillbilly Voodoo Medicine". Onion Syrup will bring everything out of your lungs, you will breath better then you have in a long time.

for seeds

or just do a google search for Papaver somniferum seeds for sale

Caution, in many people the sap is mildly to strongly addictive.

Also, the sap is an effective cough suppressant and a good diarrhea treatment.
