Yellow cooking onions. What you do is take a nice sized on. cut the top and the root off (Keep root end to plant), take the skin off, now cut the onion into quarters. Now take a soup pot, put the onions into the pot and cover with water. Let it boil, once it starts to boil add at least a cup of (just regular) sugar. You are able to add more sugar, I normally add about 3 cups. Now let this boil down until it is syrup, the onions will be translucent and soft. Once its down to a syrup, move off of the heat. Once its cooled down a bit. If you have a bad cough take 2 tablespoons full of it (make sure that you have tissues and a trash can near you for everything that you are about to bring up). If you are not planing to use it right away you are able to put it into an old cough syrup bottle or another close container. It is able to keep about a month or so. But if you are thinking about storing the cough syrup I would double the amount of onions and sugar.
Believe me this works like a charm when you have a chest cold. It works better then the cough syrup that you get from the doctors. My family doctor calls it "Hillbilly Voodoo Medicine". Onion Syrup will bring everything out of your lungs, you will breath better then you have in a long time.
