Hi-Point CarbineModel: Hi-Point 995/4905
The Hi-Point carbine series has earned itself an unfortunate place in history as one of the weapons in the Columbine High School Shooting, but this weapon is still better known to shooters as a cheap, efficient companion to their Hi-Point handguns. The 995 was developed during the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and could accept the same 10-round magazines as the Hi-Point pistols. After the ban aftermarket magazines were developed.

The 4905 was a later development in .40 S&W, while the 4595 is .45 ACP. While the .40 magazines are interchangeable between the pistol and carbine, the carbine magazines for 9x19mm Parabellum will fit in a C-9 pistol but pistol magazines are too short for the carbine. The 995TS is a slightly more expensive model with a new stock and last round hold open feature; the 4905 and 4595 are only available with the TS features.

Where to find

Hi-Points are almost never sold higher than $300 and can be found for even less in most places. They're common enough that pawn shops sell them as well, so it's not difficult finding them.

Complexity

Reports from users generally show the carbine in a favorable light, but make sure to use good ammo to avoid jamming.

One of the best values in firearms. The 9mm shows a marked increase in velocity over a handgun. The 40 and 45, not so much. There are 15 round mags available at reasonable prices. I have put 100's of rounds thru my 9mm with no failures to speak of. A scope extends the hit probability to 100 meters nicely.
