We all speak about what to do with your vehicle and what it is gonna be but, nobody talks about HOW to find an working vehicle. So here something for them who DON'T own a vehicle.

So if you don't own a vehicle you should get one if you have to travel long distances.

Where to find vehicle is a bit of a tricky question. Because everyone else has taken their own cars, you may need to "borrow" one. During a Zombie attack, laws aren't enforced but that doesn't mean that you need to kill somebody for a car. Most useful way is to borrow one from the government. Something like a bus or a ambulance. Anyway the hardest part of stealing, is how to start it or how to get inside it.

How to find a vehicle - Zombie Survival & Defense WikiIf you have a lock picking set and training for it, getting inside a vehicle shouldn't be too hard. Aside from lock picking, a good way is breaking the window. A little 100 dollar payment is nothing next to your life.

But after you get into the car, you notice that there´s no keys! You surely remember hot-wiring from the movies but it may damage the ignition lock and create malfunctions. ( I'm not going to tell how to hot wire, reasons you know :) )
If in a taxi, search the taxi station if its nearby. If in a ambulance, search the garages nearby the hospital. Finding the keys may be hard, but its worth it.

An other way to find a car is to take it from the store. If deserted, search the store for key panel. There should be at least some keys. One other note to the car finding is that if you find a car in middle of a street with its driver dead, get rid of the body now! If you keep him in the backseat, he may woke up because of the outbreak if he/she has died in zombie bite. You don't want to get bit while driving. That´s pretty much it. There isn't too much to remember: You don't need the best vehicle, just something to get you to safety. And of course don't steal from other survivors. And if you see somebody driving a vehicle, ask to get in.. You don't
always need to drive .
Another good source of stolen vehicles is- An auto dealership. No need fumbling with pics them.
And if you're very unlucky: Cant find a good vehicle or anybody driving a vehicle, then use something....smaller... like a bicycle. At least its silent.

Other ways to get in to and start vehicles.

There are also many other and much easyer ways to take possesion of a car in a survival situation.

If there is a vehicle in your vecinity that was manufactured from anywhere up to 1993,
try gaining access to the back of the ignition cylinder.
There will be a black piece of plastic on most models,
pry this off and then put the screwdriver in the slot, this is the mechanism of the
cylinder and bypasses the lock, rotate the screwdriver like you would a key, the engine will then start.

On all types of cars, using an electric drill to drill away the lock pins and using a screwdriver as you normally would a key
will work on cars
with normal keys,
this can be done in 2-10 minutes depending on your proficiency and will not disturb the cars ECU.

If locked, a cars window can be unlucked by manipulating the lock mechanism with a coat hanger,
this may take anywhere up to 20 minutes so your best bet if out in the open is to break the window,
when breaking a window take care to cover bare skin with material, or use a rock.

Places to get vehicles:
During an outbreak, you should look vehicles from certain places. This include parking garages, car dealerships and public service stations. But you should avoid underground parking-garages all times, since most likely lights are out on them and this makes you an easy prey for zombies, if alone. Also if you have friends and firepower, its still not a good idea to go looking for cars underground, since there is chance of not finding any usable vehicles and thus, you would just be wasting bullets in there. It's easier to go look for vehicles in open area since they allow faster escape and smaller chance of being ambushed.

Also if your city has been evacuated and you are still there (For reasons unknown), motorways would be good way to look for intact cars, since there probably would be a traffic jam, with a lot of usable cars. Though you may need to take the ones in the other end of the jam, because the middle ones would just be impossible to move.

And try primarily look for cars in smaller parts of your city. Less population, less zombies. And it's a good idea to look for vehicles with a friend, alone you're a easy target.

<This is a good example, of a fast lockpicking, hotwiring and a getway

Once you have obtained a vehicle

Taking this course of action you are most likely in a state of desperation,
or it may be undesireable to be found.
Therefore it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to choose exactly what
car and transmission you would like.

Here is a list of useful information after you have broken the ignition lock.

In manual cars, depress the clutch to start the engine,
keep the clutch depressed until you are in gear.
If you are proficient in manual, take off normally,
if you are not confident or do not posses the knowledge then
bring the engine to very high revs and let your foot off the clutch as quick as you can,
your wheels will screetch and it will be hard to steer try and control the car until it gains traction again.

To drive automatic cars put the selector in D drive or R reverse,
the car will not start in D 1 2 or R, it will only start in N and D.

If it is raining and your car will crank but not start,
try clearing water out of the distributor cap,
wich is a black cylinder with lots of wires connected to it, then those wires go into the engine.

First off, the disclaimer. There's information here that you could use pre-Zombie to wreak havoc. Don't do it. First, truckers are our life-blood; without us and the transportation we provide, you would starve. Simple as that. Be nice to truckers. Second, stealing a big rig is not only grand theft auto but also interfering with interstate commerce, a federal crime for which you will do federal time. Almost all trucks have some sort of tracking system aboard...you WILL be caught and you WILL go to prison. Third, many truckers (including myself) keep some sort of weapon easily at hand in the truck...I'll put it through your skull if I catch you breaking into my truck, and I'm sure many other drivers out there would do the same. So, this information is to be used only in cases of absolute dire life-threatening emergency or after all applicable laws no longer exist by way of the government ceasing to function.

There's quite a bit of debate about whether or not to use one, but nothing here about what to actually do with the bloody thing once you find one. Here's the lowdown, from an OTR driver with 5 years experience and a Class A CDL with TX endorsements, and about three years as a driver trainer.

To be continued.

should work sometimes, but not on every car, and not on late model ones.
