A friend of mine just back from Afghanistan told me that some of the Afghan military are being issued Mosin Nagants as their service/battle rifle. (Mostly Honor guards(91/30), base security personnel(91/30), and the sniper teams are getting sniper versions of Mosin Nagants(in original condition from the Russian arsenals).
Anyone know of any other modern militaries that are using Mosin Nagants.
Do you find this valuable?

My buddy Jason has his FFL03 "Curio and Relics" license, which allows him to have obsolete military weapons that are FFL 03 eligible shipped directly to his home from any vendor, without having to go through the hassle of an FFL transfer. It's a collector's license, so he's not legally permitted to sell guns for profit, there is plenty of legal room for him to make sales and trades to expand and thin out his collection as he sees fit. It's a collector's license.
Jason purchased not one, not two, but EIGHT Mosin-Nagant M91/30's from SOG this week (at $65/rifle), as well as 2 Tokarev TT-33's. I've been pretty busy helping him remove cosmoline from these rifles. For my work and help with his rifles, I get to pick my favorite out of the litter. I've chosen a VERY good rifle that will work nicely for my budget sniper rifle project. As soon as I take delivery - which should be sometime this next week - I'll take tons of pictures and show her off. I'm going to outline the entire build process in an article in LJ's Corner, complete with project images and maybe video - we'll see. To keep costs low, I plan to strip & refinish the factory stock using a homemade alcohol-based stain and boiled linseed oil to seal it. The metal is in good condition, but the finish leaves a lot to be desired, and will also be refinished. I've not yet decided what kind of optics and mount will be used but I fully intend to keep the iron sights mounted and functional... The article will be written in my typical "How To" format that details each step in the process. Continued... |

I've received a few PM's recently about the old "Mosin-Nagant Sniper Project" article, which was removed from the site back when WetPaint decided to be a "content Nazi" and take ownership like license over community and individual contributions. While WP's activity in the past still irritates me, I've received many requests to post this content back on the site and have decided to repost it for everyone's viewing pleasure.

In fact, I think they should burn for it.) |
