There have been many discussions scattered through this site on killing zombies. The purpose of this page is to give a central point to find the information.
Rage zombies are still human and subject to human limits. They can be killed by anything that will kill an uninfected human and as quickly as an uninfected human. A shot or blow to a major nerve junction will stop them immediately(but not necessarily kill them), destruction of a major organ will kill them eventually(a couple of minutes for the heart and lungs). This shows that there are two separate but related problems: stopping them and killing them. You need to stop them before they are close enough to infect you; a shot or a strong blow to the head or neck spinal column will do this. Blunt weapons that do not cause them to shed blood should be the choice for close up work.
Classic zombies are no longer human and not subject to human limits. They can only be stopped by destruction of the cerebellum or the brain stem.

Other areas of the brain are not necessary for the zombie to function. From http://www.waiting.com/brainanatomy.html
Cerebellum - The portion of the brain (located at the back) which helps coordinate movement (balance and muscle coordination)Brainstem - The lower extension of the brain where it connects to the spinal cord. Neurological functions located in the brain stem include those necessary for survival (breathing, digestion, heart rate, blood pressure) and for arousal (being awake and alert).Frontal Lobe - Front part of the brain; involved in planning, organizing, problem solving, selective attention, personality and a variety of "higher cognitive functions" including behavior and emotions.Occipital Lobe - Region in the back of the brain which processes visual information.
Parietal Lobe - One of the two parietal lobes of the brain located behind the frontal lobe at the top of the brain. Parietal Lobe, Right - Damage to this area can cause visuo-spatial deficits (e.g., the patient may have difficulty finding their way around new, or even familiar, places). Parietal Lobe, Left - Damage to this area may disrupt a patients ability to understand spoken and/or written language. The parietal lobes contain the primary sensory cortex which controls sensation (touch, pressure). Behind the primary sensory cortex is a large association area that controls fine sensation (judgment of texture, weight, size, shape)Temporal Lobe - There are two temporal lobes, one on each side of the brain located at about the level of the ears. These lobes allow a person to tell one smell from another and one sound from another. They also help in sorting new information and are believed to be responsible for short-term memory. Right Lobe - Mainly involved in visual memory (i.e., memory for pictures and faces). Left Lobe - Mainly involved in verbal memory (i.e., memory for words and names). Slave zombiesare part of a voodoo curse, and are normally not undead, but rather humans on drugs. They can be killed like humans. Can also be detoxed back to human, but may be brain damaged (though no longer a zombie).
Demon zombiesare corpses possessed by demons. It is possible that a spell or exorcism may be needed to stop these. (Evil Dead 1, 2, 3)
Ghoul Zombie they kill and eat humans slow stupid mindless corpses (George Romero movies) a bullet to the head normally kills them or decapitation maybe afraid of fire, also easy to burn and possible kill with fire
Reanimated Corpse Zombie the body must be completely destroyed or the pieces will keep coming after you (return of the living dead 1, 2, 3 not 4 or 5) use fire, acid or a deep freezer. They can run and some remain human for a short time even if they are a zombie may not kill friends or family. They may also have memories of their former self and possible be able to talk.

reisdentmagnum@yahoo.comSir.Hank.Morrill:Not trying to say anything like you guys are wrong or sound stupid but how do we figure that the only way to kill the zed is to destroy the brain. Now I know what pretty much every movie says that is how you do it, But movies also say that a bunch of oil rig workers could pilot a space shuttle and save the earth from a giant asteroid.(Armageddon). All I'm saying is that maybe they can be killed just as easily as anyone else. After all we can't prove anything about zombies so in a way we could be, and please don't ban me for this, because I truly do love this site, we could be technically studying things that could get us killed, perhaps. I mean this is just a thought that I thought up just a second ago. Maybe I'mn just being stupid. but maybe there is some logic to the thought.
