How to Prepare your Business for SurvivalThis is a featured page

(This guide is intended more for small detached buildings with one business but much of the advice also works elsewhere.)

Step 1
Some things to consider.

When buying, renovating, or building a home for your business consider these things
1. Does it have windows? If so how many windows does it have, how big are they, and how high up? Are they barred? Do they lock?
2. How defensible is it? Is it on a hill? How far away are other buildings. Are there any natural choke points?
3. What assets are near you? Think rivers, lakes, wells, farmland, hunting areas.
4. What nearby businesses or places might draw attention of scavengers or people during the panic? Is this going to affect you? Can you get there first?
5. How large is the local population? Can you be successful an a lower population area?
6. Does the building have special features (solar, wind, geothermal, security cameras, water purification, medical facility, etc...)?
7. If this is an office building what floor are you on? How far away is the nearest exit?

Step 2
Upgrade your security system if you have one and add one if you don't already have one.
A camera

Install cameras (I suggest a pan/tilt/zoom model with some sort of night vision.) Place the cameras on the exterior corners for a full 360 view, as well as 1 camera per entrance area. Inside set up a secure area for viewing and recording video in an upper floor or near the center of the building. I also recommend motion sensors near entrances in the interior.

Solar Panels
All of this tech requires power so install solar panels which harvest power, and store some power in car batteries for the night and use the rest for daytime power.

Step 3
Physical security measures
Fence
Install fences around the perimeter of your land in the style most common in the area (i.e. no razor wire if everyone else just has chain link). Put additional fencing around the back entrances and around any generators or A/C systems.
Bars
If it is common in your area bar your windows.

Step 4
"Green washing"
Install an alternate source of power such as solar or wind AND a way to store power when the wind don't blow and the sun don't shine. If it is possible to in your area have a well dug. On the roof put some sort of roof roof gardengarden. It will increase property value as well as providing food to supplement your supplies and temperature control. To plant on a roof your building may need to be reinforced so check with a contractor.

7 Things to always keep in your business

1. Basic first aid kit
2. Supplies to secure the entrances
3. Some sort of weapon
4. Ammo for that weapon
5. Gas
6. Bedding
7. Food
