I was thinking a couple days ago about what we should do with the Waste we Humans excert. Post Ideas here please. Thanks

ZombieSurvival101Do Not use waste as fertilizer. It is SUICIDE! It will spread diseases (pardon my spelling) like no other! And if you plan to use a hole in the ground, make sure it is sufficiently far away, as it may infect your crops. And if it is not far away, use a container of some kind to hold it. I would recommend a home-made ceptic tank, just get all of the gunk out eventually. What i will do is, I will sterilize a room in my fortress of solitude, evaporate all of the water from the poo and collect it for later, and then burn the poo. It may sound discusting, but in many countries, even now, there are people making cow-cakes from manure for burning later on. I would also make a hole in the upper floor, and a flap, so that the toilet will just let the poo fall into that room. Just make sure whoever is collecting and burning the poo is wearing heavy-duty rubber gloves while doing it (gloves you use for garden work will do, just make sure they're waterproof), because that is also an easy way to spread diseases. I hope you liked my information!

Cylon1994My Dad has picked up a few articles on
Sun-Mar toilets and what they do is they compost the waste for gardening. I think this would be great for gardens in an Undead World.
HeavenlySword: Ideally, we would still have working toilets in both my temporary fortresses and Final Fortresses. These would be reconfigured so that the waste would go into a compost system which would mix rubbish and dirt and sand and whatever you can think of, to fertilize food systems. Eventually, especially in Final Fortress, we would need to have hydroponics too, but I'm not an farmer or agricultural engineer, so it would take some time to learn how to become proficient in alternative agriculture.
Richboy33lbWell, obviously you shouldn't eat it, or leave it around your base. If I didn't have running water in my base, I would dig a latrine in my garden. Leaving waste, particularly feces, lying around will create a terrible smell and it will be infected with millions of bacteria. Also, the feces may attract the Zack who wonder where it is coming from.TekkenDevilI always thought I would crap in all sorts of bags that I find, and then lob them in the faces of the Zombies just for fun. I really don't have any better uses of my waste.
BigBDaveIn a city or town I would try to toss it out a window away from my exits, or drop it off while I was scavenging. In rural areas were I live if the septic tank would still work as long as you had water to flush the toilet. It would take about a gallon of water to flush with a bucket. If you are close to a river, lake, or have a generator to run your water pump or a hand pump for the well, water shouldn't be hard to come by. You will need to scavenge septic tank chemicals to help keep it from filling to fast. After a while you will have to find a pump and tank to pump it out. They usually can go years before needing pumped.
Otheus: A good example of how to dispose of human waste can be seen in the movie Jarhead. The process involves burning the waste that has been collected in a container (usually a 55 gallon drum that has been cut in half and put underneath the outhouse) and adding diesel fuel to the drum and lighting it on fire. With lots of stirring this effectively eliminates the waste without fear of spreading disease and other contamination due to having human waste around.
byates: Check out
Humanure and
the $25 sawdust toilet
Domnu: Human waste can be a pretty decent source of energy if you use it in an anaerobic digestion system. Provides you with methane and fertilizer to use afterward. Keep your power on and grow some food with your shit.
Andrew1602: There are two things you may do. One is to return the waste to the Earth as a fertilizer, it will help the plants and/or trees. Two is a bit dangerous... Um, Build a pit, a deep one, and throw the waste into the pit in bags. Cover the pit with leaves and wait, untill the zombie(s) arrive. Then you can pick them off, or capture them for reasearch, and reset. If hostile Humans fall into the pit, the stench will be unbearable, and I doubt they will come back anythime soon. Um, This can be kept up untill supierior toliet systems are created. In the begininng it will be the use of latrines, and holes in the ground. Well, return to running water will be a bit easier if the fort is next to a stream. Well, those are my two cents.
Sadakado: Fertilizer.
Dig a hole near a tree, a DEEP hole, but a 'seat' over it, start crapping.
Remember to cover your shit with dirt, or else the hole will REALLY start to stink up the emcampment.
In that case, completely fill up the hole, dig a new one.
Babeeroniea: Throw it at zombies... Ever heard the term "Land Mines??? That would really gross out raiders. The Smell of 1000 mens steaming crap in the hot hot summers of the middle eastern states of America.
s1creamer : Septic tanks as described at the top are actually cess pools, its something different and not nearly as usefull. For those without a lot of DIY experience, you can build a french drain real easy. Take a long 6 inch piece of pvc and put a lot of holes in it. Dig a trench fill with gravel and put the pipe in it. Bury it long ways, but with an elbow pointing up, waste goes in the pipe, liquids seep out and are filtered by the soil, eventually it fills and you start up a new pipe. This is the same as a leach pipe on a septic system, but doesn't last as long cause there is no septic tank. A septic tank is basically two huge buried buckets side by side. sewage comes into a t shaped pipe, the top of the t faces up, open on top for gases, the bottom of the pipe faces down. The other side of the bucket, the two buckets connect with an h shaped pipe called a baffle. The bottom of the h on the first side should be lower than the inlet pipe. The top should be open to gas, the second half of the h is the same as the inlet to the first bucket. The second bucket has a t, lower than the inlet from the h and open on the top, and it leads to leach pipe, which is a lot of time several branched french drains. The size of the buckets determine how long the septic system can go without being cleaned out. Just a single bucket that gets filled out and then pumped is a cess pit, lasts not nearly as long and is more likely to back up.
z_warrior: Actually human waste can be used as fertilizer, just like any other kind of feces. You need to allow the feces to dry completely. If you are using a latrine, be sure to dig multiple pits so you have at least one to use while the ones that are full are drying. It will take about one year for a full pit to become useable as fertilizer. Be sure that your latrine is enclosed by some form of a building to keep it dark. Also make sure that the door is facing the direction the wind is blowing and the ventilation pipe is covered with fine mesh at the end and is on the side that recieves the most sunlight. This ensures that the holding pit recieves constant airflow and that insects stay out. For detailed instructions on building a two pit latrine, use the link posted below.
