The Professional:
So we have discussed what vehicles work in what ways towards surviving the zombie outbreak. But what about the vehicles we each own? What would you do to your vehicle in order to survive the outbreak? Would your vehicle be made for straight up assaulting the horde? Collecting supplies? Acting as a recon vehicle to see what the Zeds are up to around your area? Give a description of your vehicle and maybe a pic and your mods. If you've already modified your vehicle, please let us see it so we may learn from you. How did you Zombify your Ride?

Here is a template to use if you wish:
Make: Ford
Model: S-10
Year: 2000
Purpose: Assault and recon
Modification(s): M60 mounted in bed, chain link fencing over windows, ram bar over grill.

The Professional: My Zombie-Mobile
Make: Chrysler
Model: Concorde
Year: 1995
Purpose: Raiding for supplies and recon.
Modification(s): My windows would be replaced with bullet proof glass. This would prevent zombies from breaking the glass, however they may accomplish such a task. Also, as I always do, prepares me for the possible human threat of someone trying to steal my car and supplies. The tires would be replaced with self-inflating tires. No they are not just for James bond or the military any more. Check out this link to learn more. http://gizmodo.com/374006/self-inflating-tires-do-just-that
This would prevent the classic movie scene where I'm running from some threat and get a flat. Hate it when that happens.
The trunk can hold more than enough supplies to make each trip count and would be strengthened with steel bars over the top and provide security. If the trunk lock breaks the steel bar still holds it down. The headlghts would be replaced with ultra bright LED lights to provide maximum visibility at minimal battery use.The grill would have a ram bar to plow through the undead horde, store windows and drywall. The car can hold up to 5 people which provides more than enough man power to carry supplies and provide cover. The top of the car would have an escape hatch to provide a safe way to exit the vehicle to fire upon enemies or escape. A CB radio provide communication to my home base and other vehicles in the field. As a final last ditch precaution the car would be rigged with 5 pounds of C-4 on a remote trigger. In the event that we are hopelessly doomed by the undead horde or must abandon the vehicle and can't return we can blow the car and any nearby threats.

Ford Expedition EL

Make : Ford Motor Company
Model : Expedition EL Limited
Year : 2007
Purpose : Transport, Assault, Strike &
Recon.
Modification(s): First I would install a steel mesh onto outside the windows of the vehicle. Adding this would make it a little harder for zombies to break into the glass to get me. I would put on run-flat tires to prevent the vehicle from getting stuck in a zombie horde if the tires ever happened to get punctured. Also it would have a emergency roof escape hatch if the vehicle would ever break down, crash etc. The vehicle would have a full frame roll cage so it would protect the occupants from being injured if it ever happened to roll-over. I would add a Titan like Winch Mount Front Bull Bar to the front of the vehicle to plow through zombies, store windows, fences, drywall etc. A CB radio provide communication to my home base (South Padre Island, Texas) and other vehicles out in the field.

Upgrading Your Vehicle - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

Make:
Honda
Model: CRV
Year: 2007
Purpose: Transport, Assault (prolonged attack), Strike (strike 'em, quick and hard).
Modification(s):

  1. I'll take a gas tank and put it in the back. A tube will be running from the inside tank to the actual tank.
  2. Replace the windows with plexi-glass.
  3. Spray truck bed liner all over the car and the tires.
  4. Take out the front and rear bumper. Replace them with this, except upside down. Add blades if possible.
  5. Have a detachable, mini bunker with holes on the roof, big enough for one person with a sniper, crossbow, or Vulcan Minigun. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just enough to be zombie proof.
  6. Disable the airbags.
  7. Cover the undercarriage with a piece of steel mesh.
  8. Have a roof access to the bunker.
  9. Install a police scanner or radio.

Upgrading Your Vehicle - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

Make: Porchse
Model: Boxter
Year: 1998
Purpose: Strike, Recon.
Modification(s):

  1. Pretty much all I would do on the CRV, except for the tank, bumper, and bunker part.
  2. Soup it up. I want the most horsepower and torque I can get with it.
  3. Get a solid roof for it. I think you can get one of those for a Porsche.
  4. Give it a nice sunroof made of mesh and plexi-glass. This will serve as an observation post and an escape hatch.

And my dream car...

Modification(s):

  1. Everything I just did with the Porsche except for step 3.
  2. Install a roof rack.

My PIMP car
Make: Toyota
Model: Rav4
Year: Newer the better (Mine is an '02)
Purpose: I have been convinced that my car, a RAV4, is pretty much indestructible. They are great for off road and have good mileage.
Modification(s):
1) Take out back row seats
2) Put in secondary gas tank in the back with a hand pump that will pump gas into the tank (Don't know how to auto-feed it)
3) Disable the auto gas shut off when in crashes (ramming zombies/stuff)
4) Disable airbags (ramming zombies/stuff)
5) Install roof rack for extra storage, cover with tarp (aerodynamics=gas mileage, rain)
6) Make an emergency escape in my roof. I would mount a school bus hatch on my roof so that if I was surrounded, I could pop up from the top, use a sawed off shotty and blast some zombies before I escape.
7) Install a winch on the front (possibly on back too) (stole winch idea from Angel 956).Angel_956).
8) 500w power inverter hooked up to a secondary battery in my trunk.
9) 2 sets of 50,000 Candlepower fog lights mounted on the front and back of roof rack. Hooked up to battery in trunk.
10) Snorkel system raised to about 4' off ground so I can cross small streams off road
11) Cut a 4" diameter hole in my roof. Have a cap on it that you can remove from the inside. If you get stuck and need emergency help, shoot a flare out of it.
12) Disable security alarm
13) Use run-flat tires (stole idea from Angel_956)
14) Add CB radio (stole idea from The Professional/Angel_956)
13) Carry around some explosive device incase of doomsday senario (stole from The Professional)
14) Install a steel mesh outside my windows. I would use a heavy duty mesh like the kind this table is made out of. Zombies could smash all they wanted and not break my window.Upgrading Your Vehicle - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

Redeker:

Make: Ford
Model: F150
Year: 2008
Purpose: Supply Collection
Modification(s): I would make the cabin bullet proof to level IV (that is to say it can with stand a .30 caliber armor piercing round), as well as steal reinforcing struts to prevent the long slow force hundreds of zombies pushing in on you can have.. I would also weld onto the bed a covering made of aircraft grade aluminum. The bed would now also include a reserve gas tank. I would install self inflating tires (as seen in the article by the "Professional"). A ram bar would also have to be installed although I see no use in risking the condition of your vehicle by needlessly ramming stuff with it so I would also heavily reinforce the tow hooks. I would carry around large sections of heavy gauge chain as well to rip doors off of walls instead of ramming through them (I assume this would greatly reduce the impact and trauma that would be taken by the vehicle). I would install a switch which could disable or re-able the airbags (just in case hitting stuff is required). I could also mount claymore mines all around the vehicle to be used as a last ditch, my car has broken down and zombies are swarming everywhere weapon. I would also install a CB radio in the vehicle. I would also make sure to carry a gas siphon with my, and I would install a gun rack between the two fronts seats, for easier access to what ever I'm using that day.
