Intoxication In a Post Z-Day World - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

Edit: This will be the second copy of the page, as when I was typing the first version there was an issue with the picture above and it did not save the words, just the picture. If I can ask everyone not to edit the page until I'm finished typing it again, thank you :D
Double Edit: The picture is great, thank you for whoever posted it. And thank you everyone for not attempting to edit this page again while I was typing the content. I believe the second copy does sound better then the first though, so I guess it happened for a reason. :D

So, Intoxication. Let's first look at the dictionary definition of the word:

In-tox-i-ca-tion (in tok se key shun)
1.inebriation; drunkenness
2. an act or instance of intoxicating
3. Overpowering exhilaration of the mind or emotions
4. Pathology

Intoxication, by the use of alcohol and certain drugs, I believe will be great aid in raising the morale of survivors in any fortress. Cannabis, not only as a drug, but as a plant, can aid very greatly in the growth of food, cotton, and other helpful plants. Both Cannabis and marijuana will be legal in my fortress, in the event that Z-Day comes, and in the even greater event that I am the leader of a fortress. Now I'll break down the reasons for Cannabis being a helpful plant.

1.
Imagine. You've got an impenetrable super-fortress. All the zombies have been killed or died off from decomposition. All thats left is multiple warring factions fighting from they're own super-fortress. Both groups of people are exactly the same, give one minor detail: Your fortress has Cannabis, theirs does not. Now, it might not mean victory immediately, but lets jump forward 10 years. Both factions had established guarded fields to grow food in a natural environment. For them, purely fruits, vegetables, and other helpful plants. For you, fruits, vegetables, helpful plants, and cannabis. How is this the key to survival, and not some stoner trying to for weed on me? Because, the fact of the matter is that cannabis is one of the worlds greenest plants. Hemp is one of the most universal materials, used for canvas, clothing, building materials, and purely for fields of food. Why is that, you may ask? Because for every cannabis plant planted(sounded redundant, didn't it?), it restores up to 3 times the nutrients it takes from the soil, meaning it leaves the soil increasingly more useful the longer it stays there. So if you were to plant 1 cannabis plant for every 3 of the other plants, you would be able to harvest and plant in that soil for all of eternity(figuratively speaking).

But, I digress, onto the more obvious point of the article. Intoxication!

Morale!?! How will drinking and smoking increase Morale? Maybe we could all just sit down, sing a song, play a game, and we'd all get happy, right?
Well, maybe, and I'm not stopping you to trying that. But the fact if the matter is that both alcohol and marijuana;
1. Are strong semi-anti-depressants
2. Are strong brain stimulants
3. Release a number of endorphins (sp?) [Which are the chemicals that cause you to feel..happy :D]

After a long day of work, don't most people grab a beer and sit down in front of the t.v? ( PLEASE! If you don't do that, I don't want to know! Just a figure of speech. thank you :D) The strain on someone having to go out and kill once living, breathing humans could prove too much. While a doctor will never( not yet, but maybe in the future thanks to legalization organizations) prescribe dope as a anti-depressant, I don't think they'll be many doctors around to write you or the other depressed person(s) in your fortress a prescription for Lexapro, Celexa, or some other anti-depressant, let alone whether there will even be any LEFT after Z-Day. Marijuana grows from cannabis, so its no extra effort to grow it. Also, it does almost no body damage, aside from the fact that smoking it can cause damage to your lungs leading to cancer ( But if you eat it or find a similar way to consume it, then thats not an issue anymore). Just like someone goes out to the local bar after work to get a load off, after a long day at work in a fortress( or better yet, outside of it), would you still think smoking weed is bad?

Now, onto alcohol. More than 400,000 gallons are consumed each year in the US alone. A group of people fought strongly in the 1910's to get it prohibited, and they succeeded in 1920(I believe thats the year, or around that year). But, the people realized the aid it did mentally and the prohibition was eventually lifted. Your thinking, aid? What aid can it do? Well, alcohol IS an anti-depressant and a stimulant, but it does also cause liver problems and can lead to death. Also, the use of alcohol can cause loss of minor or major control of your body, which can lead to anything from passing out and wetting yourself, to causing a car accident from driving drunk. But if the use of it is limited to an alcohol content not of a "Smashed" dosage and that people who have been diagnosed with liver problems can give up drinking, the problems caused by it would slowly fade away into history.

Of course, my fortress does not come without rules on use of intoxicants. While they will remain legal, and grown ( Not very well-versed on the creation of alcohol, but I believe it comes from wheat? Correct me if I'm wrong :D), and used by the citizens above the age of 16, no one will be permitted for use while doing a job that requires leaving the fortress, putting others safety in there hands, and group jobs that require full cooperation. Since marijuana's intoxicated state generally does not cause impairment in abilities, its use will no be frowned upon while working as long as your not doing a job listed above, but since alcohol can cause extreme impairment of motor skills, speech, and thinking patterns, use would not be allowed while working. Marijuana and alcohol would be legal for use by citizens of 18, but 16 if they teen has a job that causes stress and possible depression. This would mean that if a teen who is of the age of 16 whose job requires him/her to face death daily, work in a high stress environment, or cause mental/physical exhaustion, then they would be permitted to use the listed intoxicants.

I've written a very compelling argument for the use of 2 certain intoxicants in a post Z-Day world, and given my own opinions on each of them, but I guess the real question is: What do YOU think about the use of marijuana and alcohol in a post Z-Day world? Or, what do you think about just the growth of cannabis as a purely environmental plant used to enrich soil?
Post your opinions and ideas below. I'll love to read them.
(Thank you for everyone who read this full article instead of clicking the "x" once drugs showed up. I love you :D)
