KNIVES!!!
This page is designed to give reviews of various types of knives.
WARNING: Be wary of display and decorative items! Many decorative knives may have a sharp edge, but are flimsy and unbalanced! They were not meant to be used in real life, they will case your hands undue stress. Many are made of cheap, lightweight, non durable materials that look good, but will not serve you well. Beware of these knives, they will only bring trouble if you rely on them. Any knife is better that a display or decorative knife!
Note, no matter how "Rugged" or "Durable" a knife is, you always have to take care of your tools, or else they won't take care of you.

| | Switchblade These knives may be a handy little tool, but are of no real value. The short blade means that you will have to get too close to a zombie to get a reliable kill. They are good at intimidating inexperienced humans, but are useless against zombies or trained humans. They are illegal in many places, so may be hard to get a hold of. On the upside, they are light, easy to conceal, easy to open with one hand, and can be quickly available if needed. Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros, so the switchblade receives... 4/10 |
| | Butterfly Knife (Balisong) The butterfly knife is an unusual knife in the fact that the handles fold up over the blade. It can be a useful tool, but is quite impractical. The intimidation factor is high on inexperienced humans, but against zeds or experienced humans, it isn't much of a threat. Also, it is very likely that you will cut yourself with the knife, unless you are very experienced. The short blade would require you to get too close to an opponent to be practical. This should never be used as a weapon against zombies. However, it is small, easily concealable, light, and looks really cool, so the butterfly knife receives... 3/10 |
| | Multi-tool The multi-tool is just that, a tool. It has no use as a weapon. It is very useful in other areas. They come with a variety of different attachments, of which all are useful. Most have at least a knife, a saw blade, can opener, and a flathead screwdriver. All have a handy set of pliers on the top, many of which include wire cutters or strippers. This tool can take the place of many other tools. If you can get your hands on one of these post-zday, do it, you will find it very useful. Because of that, I give the multi-tool... 6/10* *Note, I have given it a higher score because of it's usefulness as an all around tool, not for it's combat effectiveness. Also, Swiss army knives can be classified as nearly the same, except they receive a 5/10 for their small size and lack of heavy-duty tools. |
| | Bayonet The bayonet is a very useful weapon. Many older style ones have quite a long blade, which can be useful for combat. They are very sturdy and reliable. And... they can be mounted on your weapon if you get the right type! They could potentially be a lifesaver in deadly situations, when a zed shambles towards you and your rifle jams. Just plunge the blade straight into it's eye! Many older style ones come in a hard, metal sheath, with a curious little hook thing on the side, which turns them into barbed wire-cutters (trench warfare in WWI). These sheaths don't have a belt strap, so it wouldn't be easy to carry them around. Newer styles have a regular sheath though. They are good for hand to hand, and are similar to the combat knife in many ways. 8/10 |
| | Survival Knife (Rambo Knife) The survival knife can be a very good addition to your arsenal. Its heavy duty blade can be used for chopping things, and the serrated back edge can work as a saw if needed. The hollow handle can be used to hold matches, fishing line, hooks, and anything that you can fit into it. The base of the handle usually contains a compass, which can help you find your way. This knife is also good for combat, if absolutely needed. Having upwards of 10'' of blade, this thing is a beast. It will slide easily into any zombie skull, tearing up some serious brain in the process. However, the serrated edge may make it hard for the blade to be extracted. It is often heavy, and good quality ones are hard to find. It is for these reasons that the survival/Rambo knife gets a... 4/10 - 7/10* I gave it this mark because good quality ones are hard to find. Good quality ones would be 7, and the lesser quality ones, which, unfortunately, are abundantly available, would take up the rest of the scale. |
| | Pocket/Folding Knife These knives are very useful. They are small, lightweight, easily attainable, and easy to open and close one handed. They aren't very good as weapons, because of their short blade. They are very good for delicate tasks like carving, cutting small things, etc. They are very easy to conceal and, as mentioned before, weigh very little and are very common. During an outbreak, it would always be best to have a couple of these with you. The rating for these knives varies, because they come in many different designs, sizes, and can be used for different things. Therefore, my rating is... 2/10 - 4/10 |
| | Throwing Knife The throwing knife is nearly useless for many people. You could not throw with enough accuracy to get a reliable kill unless you are specially trained. They are too short to use in hand-to-hand, and using them as such could get you killed. The only practical application of these knives would be to wedge them in the split shaft of a stick or tie them to the tip of a stick for use as a spear. It is because of this that these knives get... 3/10 |
| | Kitchen Knife The kitchen knife will be widely available to everyone. The large blade is good for cutting meat and other things, but is bad for more delicate jobs like carving. This often heavy blade was not meant for rigorous slashing and hacking, and may bend after prolonged use. Also, good luck fining a sheath for it. Newer models, made from one piece of molded steel, are stronger, and less likely to bend, but are much heavier. In my experience, they become dull very quickly, when used frequently (I chopped it into a piece of wood about a hundred times, and the blade dulled very quickly, This would probably simulate the wear and tear of a couple weeks). It is for these reasons that the kitchen knife receives... 4.5/10 |
| | Combat Knife These knives were made for combat, as the name implies, so they will be very durable. Many have a black-tinted blade to eliminate glare. They are strong, rugged, and a very good weapon against humans, but the relatively short blade requires you to get much closer to a zombie than you would like to. The combat knife gets... 7/10 |
| | Hunting Knife The knife pictured to the left is a Buck 119 hunting knife. It comes with a hard sheath and is very durable. It fits nicely in your hand and has good balance. Hunting knives are meant to do rugged tasks like slicing through skin and hacking bone, but is precise enough to carve wood or clean fingernails. This means that it will definitely last during a zombie war. It's very similar to the combat knife in weight, length, and durability. Many points listed for the combat knife can apply to a hunting knife. That's why it will receive... 7/10 |

One thing i think you are forgetting with kitchen knives... these can include butchers knives. Butchers knives are heavy duty made for cutting through hard/frozen flesh and bone which make them so much more stronger than the usual house knife... i think the rating should vary up to 9.

Shouldn't this be under, like, Weapons and Gear or something? I thought you shouldn't add sub pages to the Members' Gear and Directory page...

What IS the point of this page, as it currently stands?
Would it NOT be more profittable to use the page for general reviews of major types of knives? |
