Well I am from southern California, but currently going to school in NY. Possibly the worst place to be when Z-day comes because of its high population due to being one of the largest cities in the world.
- If Z-day arrives while at school... Well assuming i hear about this over the news and radio broadcasts and do not get intoroduced to the situation by a brain chomping ghoul face to face, swift gathering and planning is key. Im not gonna just be racinng against the zombie horde building up around me, but competing with others like me for food and supplies. First off I'll say that im gonna stay clear of other survivors because people may try and take advantage of the situation and lawlessness and loot you for your supplies. Unless i know them personally, i'll probably be sticking it alone or with one or two other people. Less people to feed, easier to maintain small groups. Now there will probably be an increased millitary presence in the area meaning there will be many corpses of soldiers and police to loot, as well as their vehicles which im sure will be full of goodies. I've never operated a weapon before (an obvious setback) so i'm gonna need to take some time to learn, maybe look for a manual that may be lying around. Sport shops and police stations are the next place to look. I put the vehicles and bodies of soldiers frst because they will most likely be everywhere, like near your home, and easy to spot in the middle of the road. I think it would be a good idea to take weapons you dont have ammo for and vice versa in case you find the ammo or the weapon it goes with. As for shelter. I'll be staying in one spot most of the time until the supplies in the surrounding area run low. I'm thinking maybe the top level of a 5 to 6 story apartment building. Zombies are dumb and can get lost in the labrynth below me, and i'll be able to hang signs or fire flares for passing helicopters.
Do you find this valuable?

Ill lock all the doors below me in the lower hallways and entrances and exits ofcourse because you dont want any wandering Zs lingering below you, but if they do happen to get in, they'll have a hard time finding me. For food i can first search some small liquor stores and shops for the smaller population and the rooms of people in my building and neighboring buildings because i assume most super markets will be full with squatters. When it comes time to venture into your local vons or albertsons, use caution. Ill look for an suv like a suburban or pickup first to load up on guns and food to make less trips. Gas should not be too hard to find in the first few days or you can siphon from any other vehicle. Load up on packs of water bottles (like the 32 pack kinds and what not). i dont think ill be drinkng or eating from anything not packaged until those things run out for possible contamination, if the virus spreads that way. Extra fun toys like night vision or infrared goggles can be found at nearly any electronics store in NYC. And camcorder to document your expirience.
I think it would be a good idea to mix mobility with tactical clothing. A tactical vest with many slots for rifle or smg clips. Long sleeve shirts tucked into gloves. Humans shouldnt be able to bite through more than two or three layers, or especially some sort of tactical clothing. A headwrap with a gas mask for protection against possible airborn infection. Jeans, being that they are long sleeve and pretty thick and durable, and either lightweight running shoes to make a running easier and faster, or light weight boots. Emergency Kit: Keep a duffle bag with a weapon and ammo and a few MREs or water bottles handy in case you are caught of guard and have nothing else. If I've been stationary and not seen any sign of help or millitary action, ill be hitting the road and living out of my vehicle, possibly heading west back home to see if my friends and family have made it. |
