I have a certain disadvantage that forces me to stick with the bunker up style of plan when it comes to dealing with "zeds".
For that reason I have a certain mindset and I try to take in mentally all the available resources that I can. Now just because you are in the desert doesn't necessarily mean that you will be without food and water. you said yourself that there is a creek running through it. Does this creek have water? This area has a large open viewpoint and appears to be heavily dependable. I have a few books on survival skills as well as creating sustainable domiciles for every environment. When I get the chance I'll post this information for all of you. But you should stick to the concrete factory. The walls provide visual cover, there have to be supplies there, there may even be people, but most importantly they will be required to have medical supplies and maybe even a medical wing based on the nature of their business. Mines will be cooler than the surface and provide a form of cold storage, it's what the romans did.
Furthermore these plants should have schematics. Thing is in the desert you will need water, and you won't have the option to set out in hopes of some unless you know where it is already.

There are some small office looking type rooms and a trailer here and there on ground level that i suppose could make for good shelter.
