Kweschins possible plan #2This is a featured page

POSSIBILITY #2
The basis for my plan is not so much zombies, but just infected in general. What I mean by that is(to me) more likely that some sort of disease will come up rather than the undead. With that in mind I have been preparing a few different locations around the Arizona valley. So wherever I might be in central AZ, or at least the places I go, I am close to a safe-house. Also, I am in the process of creating a few BOBs for each house, so if I need to switch locations,i should be prepared.
Once things do start to happen, I will be going to whichever location is closest. After I arrive, I/we will be hunkering down and pretty much waiting for things to die down some.If people are just infected as opposed to risen dead, I should be able to wait for them to starve or at least hopefully go to another area. Its ridiculous to think that you can go guns-a-blazin' and come out of it all with your life. There is a time and place for that and it is not then. Most likely there as on forleaving1 house to go to another is if I get contact with a loved one, or if resources are getting low. Although, I have tried to design the BOBs so that i should really have enough supplies to get to the next location. now if i don't need something that is in the bag(extra solar shower, extra sleeping pad, extra machete, etc...) i will just leave it behind.
The first location is my house because that is where I am usually at for the time being. IMO, this is going to be the best choice because i havethemostsuppliesstockedherealongwithmostofthefirearms/ammo. The house is a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom smallish house with block walls. As of right now we only have two of the three door equipped with storm/security doors, but that is changing soon and we are do use a 50gal water heater. My fiance grew up Mormon so she is used to having to store large amounts of water/food, but we have only recently started. One notable aspect to this location is that my fathers house is right across the street and luckily he has a similar mindset. We have been collecting ammo/guns for his house for along time now so we are at the point where I'm worrying about not having enough. His is a larger sized three bedroom, two bath house with a small barn in the backyard. Both houses are surrounded by block fence.
The second location is the office building i am working on for my new business. It is an all brick house with many windows, but because of the construction, there are also many sheets of plywood and general building materials. The is a medium sized tuff-shed in the back that would be the most likely place for stocking goods and for a living area. There is some food(snacks, small meals) and water (afewcasesofbottledwater) there already, but it needs to be expanded. This is definitely not my first choice for a safe-house,but I can use it for shelter while making my way to the last place.
The last location is my mothers condo that she uses periodically when she comes into town to see us. It is modest, but it does have a fluted fireplace and a balcony with a 50gal water heater. As far as space goes, it is a 1 bedroom and 1 bath condo with a fold-out couch. Like I said, its nothing fancy, but its on the outskirts of town do we could actually hunt and fish more than the other three places.
The Bug Out Bags should be at all locations and each one will include:
  • Clothing:Two pairs of long johns and 1 pair of pants with 1 shirt, 1 pair of wool socks and 1 pair of leather gloves.

  • Personal Hygiene:1 tube of toothpaste with a new toothbrush, 1 bottle of Dr. Brauners biodegradable all purpose soap/or 1 bar of anti-bacterial soap.
  • Camp Kitchen:Basic utensils and mess kit that includes a smaller sized pot for boiling water, cooking rice, etc.
  • Shelter:8'x10' or a 9'x10' tarp with small sleeping pad and possibly a sleeping bag.
  • Fire Starting:basic fire tools including matches, lighters, flints, and tinder.
  • Maintenance/Tools:a few packs of batteries that will be replenished regularly(before z-day), flashlight bulbs, etc...
  • Lighting:solar flashlights or shake flashlights with a couple of light-sticks.

  • Entertainment:A deck of cards and we can read the survival material.
  • Repair Kit/ Supplies:One BOB will have a small basic tool set.
  • Information:A few survival hand books, and i am making some laminated survival cards with basic knowledge on them.
  • Hunting/fishing:Being in the city, hunting isn't going to be great, thats why i have the survival 22. and also will include fishing line, bobbers, hooks, etc...
  • First Aid Kit:I'mstill working it because as I was ordering the one I wanted, I found out it has been discontinued. so for now, I'm building one!
  • Communication:Hand crank AM/FM radios, solar chargers, and hand held CBs
  • Optics:A pair of binoculars and maybe sunglasses
  • Carrier or Bag:This is up for debate. I think that it should be military surplus bags/vehicles if available. Swiss rucksacks and A.L.I.C.E. bags are getting cheaper and more available here in AZ.
  • Other:1 roll of duct tape
  • Other/Special:1 of the bags will have a large solar shower for containing water or just for cleaning, a few solar blankets, a small map.
I assume that after those supplies have run dry along with what has been stocked at all three places, we/I will be raiding or scrounging. Don't get me wrong though, somethings can last for much longer than probably needed. What I mean by that is that i can always boil water to purify it, and I could also use the shelters that have been established and things of that nature. Food and water will be the main concern after things have run out, because those are harder to improvise. My guess is that we could maybe take water from irrigation systems first and then work our way out to maybe streams and rivers.
POSSIBILITY #2

While I don't have a huge lot of land to work with, I can however go underground. As far as shelter go, there are many of them out there, so you can go with a number of different options depending on what your dealing with. Here in AZ, we have a very rocky soil, so for piece of mind, I would probably go with steel. If the circumstances were different, i might be going with fiberglass instead.

These are some of the better ones that I could find. While being expensive, but in my opinion, its definitely worth it. You never have to really fortify except for the entrance/exits, its always the same weather underground, its always there, there's lots of reasons for it being a good idea.
