Part 1: Bugging In This guide begins assuming a few factors: That my family and loved ones are here in town (portland. oregon)
That the pandemic is spread via air/water/contact
I live in a larger townhouse with the girlfriend and two cats, across the Columbia river from portland. Our house is a two story, two dwelling building, meaning there is an identical house attached to one side. The current plan is to:
As soon as word gets out about the pandemic, whomever is home will begin filling the bathtubs with water for reserves (I come from hurricane country.) We have two bathrooms upstairs, so with both tubs and the backs of the toilets full of water, I think we'll be fine for some time on that front. We keep a good stock of canned food on hand. Move enough food/utensils upstairs for a few days. The plan would then be take off all downstairs interior doors and bring them upstairs to barricade our safe area. Once all supplies are upstairs. (I figure with adrenaline, this wouldn't take more then an hour). We start working on the stairs, and by working on I mean destroying. an hour with the axe would remove any way to get from the ground floor upstairs. This will give us a decent "hide" to allow for a few days of waiting it out. The upstairs floor plan consists of an inverted "L" shape. A guest bedroom and office make up the upper portion of the L while a bathroom and master bedroom the lower, with a nice loft area where the stairs are. The loft area faces the front door and also has a window above the door, with perfect line of sight to the street. I will have full view of 2 of the 3 entry points on the first floor, with a hallway making a natural choke point from the back of the house to the front. With the stairs gone all zombies or people looking for shelter would have to cross infront of the loft in perfect range of the .308 or 22lr.We have approx 500rds on hand.
If by some chance something is able to jump up to the loft area, there is a walk in closet in the master bedroom that will be our saferoom. Surrounded by walls on 3 sides and a door that is easily barricaded by the dresser inside, this would be our last resort. The main area for my girlfriend and two cats.

The plan is to only stay like this for the first week tops, to allow the panicked masses to die off and some of the zombies to disperse/be killed by other survivors...
If its feasible, there is a mini wallmart type store .3 miles down the road. A day or two into the pandemic, if the local area is clear we can venture to the BiMart for supplies. Hopefully by this time there wont be anyone around to trample either of us, and hopefully we will avoid a confrontation all together as most people would have fled.Using the buddy system of one runner/shopping cart pusher and one defense/shooter we could make decent time to and fro. Supplies list would include.
additional hammer/nails/thick bolts and nuts
rope
matches
security locks (heavy duty deadbolts to replace interior locks)
Anything to reinforce interior doors upstairs
ammo (if any is left. Unlikely)
matches
secondary can opener
etc
Part 2: Bugging Out
[This is the section where you detail how you wil escape to your Bug Out Location. What vehicles you use, the routes you take, etc]
Part 3: Digging In
[Here you detail your BOL. If it is an existing building, any modifications. If it is something you intend to build, then show us the designs, the reasons for each addition, etc]
Part 4: Living
[So you have escaped the plague, you are in your BOL, and now you have to do the hardest task of all: cope with your new daily life. What is that like? How long will you be doing that?]
