List of Chosen Gear for Survival

GEAR-

Like every zombie movie the hero always is geared in some over dramatic armor, swat vest or some sort of out of reach item for a regular civilian, well not everyone can afford or believes in zombies, so they will only have the clothes on their backs... This is not a problem, as long as its movable, lightweight and skintight you are definitely in decent gear for fleeing zombie hordes. On the other hand if your daily attire is a trench coat and baggy jeans you should at least drop the trench. Its long cape like features give the perfect handle for a ghoul to grasp you and pull you to its snapping jaws. Ex of a no: cool, but could lead to impending doom

Personal Opinions

- Water filtration pump
- Water bottle
- Backpack
- Compass
- Map of area
- Knife
- tight clothing
- Sharpened walking stick
- Solar/Crank radio
- Hammock
Assuming I would only have access to my household goods I would choose said items. If I had to travel it would be quickly with little gear carried, I would move as far from civilization as possible then survive on my own in the wilderness. Would rank the hammock amongst my most valuable items seeing how it would be hard to get shut eye thinking about any zombies that could wander up and take a bite out of you.

My gear
At first - sorry about possible mistakes - i'm from germany and english is not my first language

Now, my gear. I'm very worried about the weight of weapons and amunation. I mean an assault rifle weights 3-5 kilos and a sniper rifle 5-8kilos. Ammo ist quite heavy, too.

Besauce of that, all weapons I use are:
-> SIG 551 - a quite compact, but accurate and reliable assault rifle in 5,56mm.
-> USP9 - a modern and extremly reliable pistol in 9x19mm.
Reliability ist quite important to me, because where do you take new parts from, if you need them in the middle of nowhere?

Ammo:
Bouth calibres, i carry, are quite light, but anyway, they do their jobs. In numbers, i carry 90 rounds of 9x19mm and 150 rounds of 5,56mm.

What else do I take?
-> food and water for tow days
-> a first aid kit
-> camping gear
-> a leather coat against bites, as well als cold weather

That's the gear of me, postal_dude

Equipment:
A Backpack

My Zombie Survival Rifle would be the following:

Accuracy International Arctic Warfare .308 Suppressor
Bolt-Action Configuration
Folding Chassis
Butt Spike
Adjustable Cheek-piece
Black Chassis Colour
.308 Suppressed
Consists of a 16” barrel housed in a 28” Suppressor overall length
AI Factory Bipod
Maintenance Kit
Standard Sling
black
Target Butt Pad
.308 10-Shot Magazines
Black Soft Carry Bag
for use with folded rifle
Schmidt & Bender PMII Telescopic Sight P4-Fine Reticle in Mil format, 0.1 Mil Clicks, “One-Turn” Zero-Stop Elevation Knob, Reticle Illumination
Subsonic Ammunition 140 Bullets (14x 10-shot Magazines)
Barrett Optics Optical Ranging System (BORS) with spare batteries

Any feedback on the above rifle system would be greatly appreciated. It seems like a lot but this rifle will shoot as straight as a laser at anything up to 500 yards, and will be very quiet. It is expensive though, but I guarantee that it will not miss a zombie head easily. If a zombie is close enough to be a threat, this will take care of it without a hitch. The only downside is that engaging another human sniper (rebellious etc.) during a zombie apocalypse will not be as easy at longer ranges with this particular setup. As always, I thoroughly recommend a secondary firearm anyways, but this is an extremely reliable piece of kit.

Firearms and other stuff by - MR.NIBBLES
HBAR (Hill Billy Assault Rifle) / Rossi Model 92 .357 magnum Lever Action Rifle
Light weight, tough little rifle. This rifle along with 100 rounds of 180 grain Partition Ammo and 200 rounds of 145 grain Silver-tip ammo pushes the scales at about 10 pounds. Granted, effective range is limited to 100 yards but anything past that I'm sneaking by anyways.

SCATTERGUN / Mossberg 500 12 gauge with 18.5" Barrel
What else can you say about a shotgun? Mossberg's are reliable and affordable. This scattergun equipped with 120 rounds of ammo hits the scales at about 13 pounds. I'd split the ammo into 80 rounds of OO buck (for close work out to 30 yards) & 40 rounds of rifled slugs (for shots between 50 to 80 yards).

Fill-Yer-HANDGUN / Ruger SP-101 .357 magnum with Crimson Trace Laser Grips
Built like a tank snub-nosed revolver. This 5-shot snubby with 100 rounds of 125 grain hollow point ammo weighs a scant 4 pounds. The laser grips are robust and work fantastic. Where the red dot shows, the bullet goes. Toss in a few speed loaders and I'm good to go.

Melee Weapon / Fat Max Functional Utility Bar by Stanley Tools
Believe it or not, I'm going with the 24 inch Stanley. I know it's not as flashy as a Katana blade, but this 1 piece, all steel tool does it all. It's made for demolition & building, the design of the tool lends it to be a very good weapon. It's perfect for prying open doors, breaking wood, it's like a crowbar on steroids. The tool weighs about 3 pounds. There is an assortment of these tools available, some are as long as 3 feet.

Mountain Climbers Rucksack w/ Camel-back water storage (100 oz)
I'd skip the Alice pack, tried them, like the civilian stuff much better.
Rope - 50 foot para-cord and 25 foot (550 lb test) climbing rope.
Fixed Blade Knife - 6 inch blade
Leatherman Wave - MacGyvers best friend, the ultimate in compact tooling.
Butane Lighters - Self explanatory as to their use. I'd have at least 6 in my pack for thousands of lights.
Canteens / Military with stainless steel cups - Two canteens with the cups would store a lot of water. The cups are great for boiling up water or eating from.
PUR Water Filter - Pound for pound, the mechanical method of purifying water beats chemicals hands down. Bonus being there isn't an expiration date on the PUR filter as there is with say Aqua Pure tablets. One filter processes hundreds of gallons, if not thousands depending on the original water source's quality.
Flashlight (LED) / Shake type - A shake type of flashlight is far superior to a windup type because of their method of power storage. The windups use Ni-Cad battery's, that over time will quit holding a charge because of building a memory in the battery, you'd have to continually wind it for light once the battery flamed out. The shaker types use capacitors to store their power and aren't hindered with the memory issue, the con to this type of storage is that you'd have to shake more often for power.
Rain Poncho with Insulated Liner / Military - This is the best setup, the poncho can be used as a tarp and of course a rain poncho. Using the poncho with the liner you wrap yourself in it and make what is known in the military as a "Ranger Roll". This setup will keep you comfortable in all but freezing weather, but you can add a wool blanket to combat that. The bonus to using this setup is that your not confined in a sleeping bag, so if you had to, you could get up to fight or run in an instant.
Wool Blanket - A 60"x80" wool blanket packs light and will keep you warm, even if it's soaking wet, unlike a down sleeping bag.
Food - Depends, if your talking for 72 to 120 hours I wouldn't bother with anything more than a couple food-bars like Cliffs or Datrex type of emergency food. I would always have some hard candy, tea, instant coffee, Ramen noodles and maybe instant oatmeal on hand for trips of 7 days or more. I'd depend more on scavenging food as I went, I'm sure I can scrounge up food. Hey it's worked for pillaging army for century's.
Binoculars - Use is obvious.
First Aid - Basic first aid kit with a couple of battle dressings (kotex in a pinch) Also caffeine tabs in case the morning coffee is out of the question. Along with basic meds for pain, etc.
Socks / wool - Three pairs of wool socks
BDU's - One pair of pants and one shirt.
Underwear - Three sets, along with one full set of silk long johns. The silk long johns are fantastic for cold weather, don't knock em till you tried em.
Sweater / Wool - British Army issue sweater, these are the absolute best. Their made for harsh environments and are very warm.
Jacket / Farm Type - Insulated jacket, same type as you can get at your local TSC (Tractor Supply Store). These jackets are bullet proof (figure of speech, wont actually stop a bullet). These farmer type jackets are made to take lots of abuse, their far superior to anything the military has. However the good ones are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Leather Work Gloves - Self-explanatory
Boots / Combat or Engineer Type - You need tough and high protection for your feet.
Gun Cleaning Kit - 30" leather shoelace and cleaning patches. Don't need a cleaning rod, drop the lace down the tube and pull the patch through until clean.
Playing Cards - Might have to hole up somewhere for awhile, might as well play some solitaire, or if you find a friend poker.
Totals = While this setup is not all inclusive for most people (but it works for me) the weight of everything listed here, weapons, gear, everything including the water in the camel-back / canteens, the weight comes to 57 pounds. Keep in mind I'd be wearing a good chunk of this as clothing.
SUBMITTED BY MR.NIBBLES Throw some feedback my way, let me know what you like or don't like about the list.

Keep in mind when choosing firearms the weight of the weapon, magazines loaded or otherwise, necessary cleaning kit, and where your going to store it all. Just as an example, lets say your carrying an M4 carbine, the weapon by itself with a 30 round magazines weighs 7.5 pounds. Every other magazine you carry is a little over one more pound. The cleaning kit, consisting of a couple rods, brushes and maybe some CLP is less than a pound but awkward to store. Lets use another example, an AK47. Its a little over 8.5 pounds, but the ammo is almost twice as heavy as the 5.56mm ammo of the M4/M16 variant. The ammo of the 7.62x39mm hits harder, but has a bit shorter range, about 100m less accurately. However don't knock on the AK's accuracy, you'd be surprised.
-790superstar

As choosing your weapon is very important, so is knowing your abilities of using weapons. And also you physical ability for weapons. Also if your good with automatic weapons and bad with shotguns, don't pick a shot gun! If your a good sniper with good vision and bad with hand to hand combat don't jump into a fight with your Bowie hunting knife! (you should still always carry a knife on you but what I'm trying to say is that if your not good with a knife don't really rely on it for a major weapon, just as a last resort or if a zombie sneaks up on you.) After all you don't want to starting fighting with a weapon that your bad at operating or even in the worst case don't even know how to operate! Every once in while though, you find a guy (or girl) that is very skilled in many weapons and is physically in shape. People like this may include a person in any form the army (National Guard, Air Force, Navy etc.) or maybe just a person that is good with weapons. A person like this is a have to have person while choosing your group. But as these weapons and devices are very cool to learn about and fun to see, keep in mind of your physical abilities. If you have any opinions about my view please comment or e-mail me a message.
~Mr.

In regards overall preparedness, on should always have a small knife handy. A buck knife, ka-bar, or switch blade comes to mind. In the event of a grapple with a zombie, something which no one would wish to be unprepared for, a small knife could be the deal breaker for your life, or your undead existence. Granted you may never used this knife again, once it is embedded in the zombie's temple it will be counted as a lost cause to retrieve. But, better one lost knife than one more zombie.
-EvacMedic

First off, very few people will have access to most items under ballistics. You would have to be a leader(President) or General of a nuclear armed country to even think about the nuke.
Now as for the Unarmed thing, it is a bad idea. Even a weapon as ineffective as a baseball bat has a better ability to keep you from a zombies grasp than your bare hands. Not to mention that zombies are famous for their grip(ever heard the phrase "you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers?), so once they have a hold on you, you better have at least a pencil to jam through their eye into the brain(risky and unlikely, but you are already in a horrible position).
Finally, what is a "Spiked Gauntlet" doing on a weapons page? Shouldn't that be in Protective Clothing?
-McSkullcracken

My first weapon that i would grab would probably be my Mossberg 500 12 gauge, along with my H&K 45.Auto USP. My other gun is just a plain ak47 they are so reliable they would be a awesome weapon in a zombie attack the only downside for an AK is i suppose the accuracy although i never have had serious accuracy problems with it. For my melee weapon i would have to choose either a crow bar or a katana. For a good sniper rifle i have a 7mm Winchester black shadow bolt action.(I currently own all of these weapons I have mentioned and i shoot and practice with these a lot so i do know what i am talking about.)
-zombiekilla

A molotov cocktail is a good weapon...only if it is made right! A rag and a bottle w/gas is a sure way to set yourself on fire. Instead use a wine bottle filled with gas. Use epoxy to seal the cork. Yes, you put the cork back in the bottle. Then get yourself a road flare, the type with a pull tab, and duct tape it to the bottle. Now you have a safe, effective weapon that can now be carried as well. Just pull the tab on the flare and throw it.
-Meep1982

It disturbs me that so much of the information about weapons on here was wrong. I changed a lot of it and I'm confident that the information is correct as I got it from my husband, who does small arms repair in the Army. That covers everything from the .9 pistol to artillery. He also suggests that everyone researches weapon techniques like transition drills, stress shooting, and things like that.
Also, clothing really depends on the person. You should fight in what you feel comfortable in, for my husband, it would be his military gear. Whereas that would be heavy and uncomfortable to me. So, thats a personal decision.
I do want to apologize if anyone is offended by my changing the weapons section so much. I just wanted to make sure
the information if correct and people aren't being misinformed.
-xharlotx

Sorry but i just had to fix all the wrong information in the .22 section.
-Wulfgar87

A tile remover is an awesome melee weapon. Imagine an over sized titanium chisel attached to a 4-6 foot long hardwood pole.
-Sgt.Schultz

If there is one thing I learned by watching TV, it is that anything and everything can be a weapon when your life depends on it. For example: window becomes a knife, chair becomes club. Use your imagination. But remember go with things that are meant to kill with first, they work better.
-GrantHatman

Personally I would use my two Katanas. They are legit. I didn't even get them in America, I got them from the Asian countries surrounding Japan, such as Korea and the like. I am a master while using the blade (not an exaggeration), and using my swords, I could easily kill and protect myself more so than using any gun (although I would still use a gun any time I had the chance).
Stay safe my friends.
-ZEROFLY

Hey,just because you aren't armed with katanas, firearms, or any weapon of mass zombie slaughter, you could use regular household items until you find better, a cooking knife could be used to impale the zombie in the temple then adding a slight wiggling movement to ensure a kill, at the same time you will have to get uncomfortably close...but going down fighting is better then going down screaming without the fight. Another thing people don't take time to try in the movies,Search the neighbors house, if they are a proud gun-bearing American you could save your life by stealing it.

Slayer123

Oh c'mon, a simple hand gun would do a lot of things..a round to the head eliminates a zombie..PERMANENTLY..
but i can handle light fire arms like m16a4 rifles..that would surely do...
-Shaun

Super-Z: I would preferably use a 12 gauge single shot break
shotgun. The only problem would be that you only have one shot then you have to reload. But they are reliable and easy to clean.

Improvised spear by byates
Trash spikeHere's
one for ya! Clod Steel Halberd 2

I saw this thing and fell in love. Talk about crowd control. An 8 1/2 in. axe blade with sharpened hook and spike all on a 6 foot pole. Ever chopped firewood with an axe that had a 3 foot handle? Imagine the momentum this thing generates. Double the energy, half the effort! Then you have the spike for thrusting and spearing, and a hook for dragging or skull busting.
Halberds have been around for 600-1000 years for a reason, they wail ! Plus, they never need reloading, just rub them with a file or decent rock and presto! Good as new!
But of course, like the spear, once something gets too close, the reach is a liability. When that happens, simply drop it and pull a close quarters weapon and keep going!
This particular halberd was produced by Cold Steel. Although it's been discontinued off of the C.S. website, search the web and you should be able to find one easy.

Z13: Not to be a dick, but almost all of these weapons are obnoxiously hard to find and not important in a zombie situation. I really don't see the need for RPG's, Grenades(except in a resident evil type scenario) or any of the high powered rifles

Serious Air-guns

zombiehitman:
hey for best results with an outbreak it is always smart to remember even though the zombie is nasty and scary looking, killing it is just like killing a very primitive human that cant climb, talk, run, and has very very basic motor skills. since this is so the zombies are relatively easier to kill using this perspective. but now onto melee weapons. first every survivalist will want to have a switchblade or folding knife preferably smooth edge and sharp on both sides with point in middle. for cleaning and sharpening this knife you will need either a sharpening stone or kitchen knife sharpeners which are both very common house hold items. you will also need sharpening oil so that when you sharpen the very small pieces of the blade that come off wont chip the blade. now you will also need a secondary also light melee weapon. hatchets, short swords, bats, and hammers are recommended differently. in order from overall best to worst: short sword, hatchet, bats, hammer. even though the short sword is ranked highest it is also the rarest because come on how many people do you know that own ready to use non decorative durable short swords besides roman gladiators. because of this you may want to use other weapons not mentioned, but if you do ask yourself these questions: can it be used more than once, is it durable, if lodged in skull can it be easily retrieved, does it have good distance, does it have good stopping power, can it crash a skull and if not can it sever a head. these are all important questions to ask but you also have to think if you like it. since in some situations this maybe your last hope you may want to be familiar with the weapon and you may also want to practice with it so that you can know your strengths and your weaknesses with it.

gin23's weapon list

shotgun-good for hordes, but if they're spread out, the mutipil shot is useless.Weapons & Gear - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki
pistol-not too strong, and the range is not too good either, but it gets the job done.Weapons & Gear - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki

bolt-action .22-a good weapon at long ranged combat, but due to the reload rate, bad for multipil zombies at close range.
semi-automatic .22-perhaps one of the best weapons out there.

Machetemachete-a great close-combat weapon, but if it's serrated, pass it up.it would only get stuck in a zombie.
small pocket knife-a horrible weapon. do you really want to get that close to a zombie???
katana-a great melee weapon. definitely use it if you can!!!!!!

chainsaw-a great weapon-but you have to clean it, or it will get clogged.

Don-diegos list of ideal equipment

Ishapore 2a1. 7.62mm bolt action rifle that is a conversion of the lee-enfield 303. caliber rifle, has the ability to mount the old school enfield optics and can be used as a melee weapon, I'd be using this as my main arm.

Glock 17. one of the most reliable pistols out there, high capacity 17 rounds standard. aussie cops use them so it'd be easy to find them and there magazines around the place.

Fire axe. i could use this for anything that an axe can do, chop would, break open doors, smash glass, own zombies with etc. they're durable to and it's last me for a while

Machete. machete's can be used for almost anything, including pwning zombies, and are pretty durable, i could carry it on a belt holster as well as opposed to hauling my axe around, I'm staying with my axe for zombie owning though, don't wanna get to close.

High tensile strength nylon rope, for rappelling down crap.

water purification tablets.

small lightweight tool kit.

ammunition 500 rounds of 9mm 200 rounds of 7.62.

backpack for hauling all my crap.

first aid kit and lots of medicine.

a knife, not as a weapon though, the machete and axe is for that, just as a multi tool.

map of the world

map of ocean currents

Flashlight using AAA batteries

like 50 AAA's and 25 AA's

Gun cleaning kits

I'd always be packing enough non-perishable food and water for at least a week, if i ran out I'd go hunt some more out of peoples homes, although I'd draw the zombies in there out first, if there are any in there to begin with. fuck going into supermarkets those things are deathtraps we've all seen dawn of the dead.

and they don't make katanas properly anymore, if you try and use one it's gonna own itself on a zombie skull and break into a billion pieces, and the chances of you finding the genuine ninja shit are slim, mischa barton slim.

and don't you dare say desert eagle, it might be hell powerful but it's heavy, big and not worth the effort, why would you want magnum rounds in a big low capacity gun when you could have a high capacity low recoil 9mm, zombies don't wear armour, and even if they did a desert eagle's still to ridiculous for anything but recreational shooting.

You guys should read my zombie combat guide it's on my profile.

Death Hawk- My ideal kit would include D.P.M. Camouflage- I feel comfy in them, class 3a full body armour with pads, a ghillie suit, a tactical vest, a night vision and thermal vision set ( a decomposing body gives of alot of heat), a pound of c-4, 4 grenades, good set of patrol boots, m4 with sling, scope, flashlight and nade launcher with 6 grenades and 8 clips, either a 1911.45 custom with laser sight and tactical light with holster and spare clips, or a sig p226 with same accessories, also a set of gil hibben throwing knives, I can actually throw at 30m and hit, a Katanna, a tanto, a ninjite, two knives, a box of thermite with magnesium flares, medical kit D.P.M. waterproof's, kevlar helmet with standard british issue gas mask, fleece's, walking socks, bergen, tent/basha, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, cooking set.

What I have-
D.P.M. Camouflage, fleece's, walking socks, bergen, tent/basha, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, cooking set, two knives, a box of thermite with magnesium flares, medical kit D.P.M. waterproof's. a flashlight, a crossbow - I've got a 4 second reload time, good set of patrol boots, tactical vest, gil hibben throwing knives a flashlight and a kattana.

D1G1T4LPH34R's Non lame-survival list:

Primary Weapon: SKS Carbine, it weighs 8 LBs and its overall length is about 40 inches, with it barrel length 20 inches.
The Chinese model.
Other ranged weapons: Medusa Model 47 Revolver, and a Norinco 1911A1, together around 4/5 pounds
Melee Weapon: Battle ready Katan, roughly around 3 pounds.

Clothing:

Head: Max Pro Police FC-210 Correctional Helmet, 350$ but it is worth it.S
Torso/Legs/Feet/Arms: Dirt bike gear, if they can stop someone from breaking bones, shouldn't it protect
again some bites? (Note, this is only if I know Ghouls are coming, not everyday clothing. snake bite proof pants ,
leather jackets, and tee shirts will do)

Feet: Boots, obviously.
Hands: Leather gloves, they seem to be useful.

Other:

MP3 player, duh, I might wanna listen to music when I am not busy.
Hockey neck protection,
Now, it may be from hockey but I am pretty sure you can keep teeth from penetrating it.
Surgical mask and safety goggles, you wear them under your helmet, even more protection!
Ammunition: Keep a few magazines, and some rounds in a pack.
Backpack full of canned foods, water and medical supplies, cleaning supplies for the gun...... um... Duh?

Overall weight. I lost track at the helmet, but it should be relatively light weight.
Roughly around fifty pounds, since the weapons are only 15 po-
unds all together, the dirt bike armour is lightweight, and the rest,
Since it is on my body I shouldn't really notice it that much.

Vehicle: Umm, something modified.. Maybe some thick glass,
some chain link fence bolted to the windows to protect them, and reinforce the body with something. Get a canvas camper shell,
reinforce it with something,
Keep the nasties out.

Note: All these weapons/gear are completely legal, their ammo is very common, and they are very common. Also, apologies for the bad English, I am learning.

ZombieStomp's Good Old Cover His Ass Plan (Good Old C.H.A.P.)

This is a list of things which I actually have access to or could make given roughly a day.

Location: I live with my mom in a desolate valley far removed from the freeway. Few people come back here and only a few hundred residences actually exist here. There is a corner store 1/4 mile from my house that I could run in and buy (I always keep money on myself) or loot everything before other people had even begun to react to the infection. Behind my house are the natural fortifications of a shallow creek, several hundred feet of open grassland downhill from me and, 1/8 of a mile away, steep foothills. In front of my house is a high ridge which might deter any zombies long enough for me to haul ass towards those foothills if I have to.

Fortification; Because me and my mom are always working on home improvement, we have alot of spare lumber, chicken wire and nails. We could board off a majority of our home in about a quarter of an hour if we moved quickly. Oh, and my entire property is fence, not enough to stop a raging zombie, but enough to deter a pacing one.

Food: At any one time we have enough top ramen in our house to kill a horse (thanks to recession) not to mention a variety of canned goods and frozen foods. Pair that with the fact that I can easily go a week off of eight meals and that there is a food source, the corner store, nearby and I can hold out for a long time. To make matters even better, we have a shiteload of chickens and the valley is an unofficial elk reserve, but the elk are only really here in fall and winter. Sometimes, when we can afford it, we grow a few flowerbeds full of corn and the like.

Weaponry: I myself have quite the smorgasbord of weaponry. You see, the one time I did have a summer job I saved up a crapload of money and spent it on a sword collection and a computer. Now I have somewhere around forty blades in my 12x12 bedroom (an earthquake would impale me), hanging from walls and nailed to just about any freespace I could give them. A majority are pressed and, thus, useless, but the rest are quite sharp and deadly I assure you. My favorite is a machete I keep near to me while I sleep, though it does need sharpening. My best bet would probably be the very sharp pair of twin blades latched to the foot of my bed. Coat them with teflon or pam cooking grease and I'll have a weapon that could easily impale a skull.
And the coup de etat, the crowning achievement. My mom has a .12 gauge with thirty slugs and thirty buckshot.

Raimentation: Well, this is where I fall a little short as have to really use my head to come up with stuff. I just came back from looking in the shed to see what I could use with armor and I came up with the following, though I would have to make it secretly so that none of my neighbors or friends took it.

I would retailor my leather trenchcoat into a bodysuit that hugged my body instead of flapping about. leather is essential because it's hard to chew through. Paired with that would be a combine of thick, flexible vinyl pond liner and silver tape/gorilla glue/staples to be put over any of the zombie bite danger zones, all in all the armor would absorb most bites and with any luck I could camouflage it so that I could sneak around the property at night to search for any breaks in the perimeter. I'm sure my friends could make something like this on their own, so I'm not too worried about that, we have enough extra supplies for a few hunters to garb up with.

Explosives: Me and my friend both know how to make explosives through, back way methods. I won't tell you what they are or how to make them, but believe me, you would be surprised over what you can make with house hold goods. I would need explosives for only two reasons. One would be to start a forest fire between my self and the zombies. Another would be to blow the dam a mile away from my house. It's a small dam but I would make it so that nobody could cross the creek behind me if I had to head for the hills.

Transportation: This one isn't so important, if we do run it'll be to a place where cars can't go. Then we'll head west (I'm not sure, but towards the local lake) until we reach the lake, where there is an island. Other wise our transports are the following.
Ford Focus: Fast with a big gas tank
Chevy Silverado '76: Slow but strong
Our strength in this department will show in a moment.

Organization: One of the downsides of living out here is that everything is so tightly knit, it's so easy to learn about your neighbors from the rumor mill. The upside is that we have a few friends because of it. Here is what we have to offer.
Please keep in mind that all names have been censored.

Jack and Jill: Distance-1/16 Mile,
What they can offer:

2 ATVs
1 Truck
Plenty of food
Guns
Electric fence
A handful of other minorly useful products.

Jimmy: Distance-1/4 mile

What he can offer:

Guns
ATV
Supplies
Dodge Caravan
Truck
Lumber
Key to the local lumber yard (10 miles away)

Don: 10 miles

What he can offer:

Explosive expertise
fall back location in santa cruz (like I would agree to make that dangerous trip)
hand full of weapons

Between the rest of my friends and my girlfriend i can get the following.

Alcohol for molotov cocktails
guns
blades
food
communications outpost
illegal weaponry and military grade explosives
companionship
crapload of other stuff.

What I can bring

Weapoms

Primary: Kel Tec SUB-2000: Cheap, excellent gun that I already have. .40 S&W rounds for the extra kick. Just attach a 32 round glock magazine, and a bayonet. Then it's perfect.

Secondary: Glock 18 .40 S&W: A good backup

Melee: Cold Steel Survival Shovel: Don't count it out until you've seen what it is capable of. This weapon can easily take of heads, end of story.

Pipe Bombs: Easy to make and very deadly

3 Extra Magazines

2 Cartons of 150 Bullets

Armour & Clothing

Head: Skateboarding helmet: Comfortable, and practically impenetrable
Body: Polypropaline shirt w/kevlar vest: Stops zombies and bullets
Hands: Fingerless combat gloves: Need the dexterity that regular gloves dont have
Legs: Zip off pants and kneepads: Apropriate for almost all weather
Feet: Cabelas Ultra Light Hiking boots, Genius(TM) Hiking socks, and polypropaline liners: Best combo I could think of.

Automobile

GMC Suburban: Large hardy, huge towing power, easily armoured, and yes its even manuverable

Equiptment

Water Purification Tablets: You can't count on a pump, they break way too easily. IF you use MicroPure tablets, it wont even have an aftertaste.

Gerber Multi-Tool: Great for just about anything, not too heavy either.

Backpacking Stove w/Extra propane tanks: You gotta cook, right?

Field First Aid Kit: Compact hospital, get injured comrades back fighting fit, in no time. Easily fir into the pocket of a backpack, includes flashlight and lighter

Whetstone: To keep the blades sharp

Gun Cleaning KIt: Even the best guns get dirty!

Deck of cards: Entertainment

All of this (except the SUV, of course!) in a exterior frame hiking backpack.

Within my neighborhood I can get the following

Hunting RIfles & Shotguns
Plentiful Ammo
Food
Hostpitality
A small team of 6-8

From there we travel to Weaver's General Store which is were camp will be set up. We should be able to live there for at least 3 months.

i know that one of those shake up powered LED lights sounds great and all but
DONT BUY THEM!!
they take too long to shake up to charge and they make a loud CLACK sound that woyuld attract any potential enemies

OK we all know when the hordes of the undead attack most of us will not have the time to get suplies together, let alone a one person survival kit. If you have the means I would say have all supplies, guns, ect.. ready.

Most of us live in towns or small places, if there was already a kit suck as a back pack that you could buy with some basic stuff you need to survive like a large knife, rations, water, source of light as well as have room for your ammo, and a place to attach a rifle.

This would make things alot easier, you could go out to the local store and get one, put some of your ammo, guns with it and at least you could get out of the area in a hurry without worring about getting your stuff together.

Well, some "exotic" choices out there, hope you can find one when it hits the fan.....

Me, I got a mossberg 500 not ten feet from me, alongside my WASR-10 (Romanian AK for those who don't know) and more ammo and magazines than I can carry. I have two 9mm handguns, a Ruger P89 and a Beretta 92FS police special, both with holsters and each have 3 15-round MAGAZINES (I hate the incorrect usage of "CLIP". A CLIP is something completely different, look below.) I would also grab my Mosin-nagant M44, which I have done some custom work with; The action is bedded and barrel is floated using fire retarded burlap wrap, and an intermediate eye relief burris scope, for the longer shots should they be needed. I have several stripper clips for that, for easy ammunition loading. Its accurate enough to 300 yards for humans/deer, maybe 150 on a zombie head.

Along side this for a couple more, my brother's SKS with Tapco fusion setup and 20 round detachable magazine, a Ruger No.1 25-06 for someone who thinks they can snipe (god knows that rifle is more accurate than anyone I know could possibly take advantage of) another mosin nagant, but its an m38 (carbine, no bayonet) and a few .22 LR semiautomatic rifles for the girlies and less experienced.

I collect firearms; I am working on getting my FFL 03 Curio and Relic license, no more paperwork on the WWII guns y'all....haha.

Along with this all I have canned rations should any major catastrophe occur, 4 finn made gas-masks with extra filters, backpacks and the like out the wazoo. We camp alot so that's all covered. If you're in the Saint Louis area, feel free to hit me up when they come, I got spare guns and ammo.

No wusses though.
