First, in the event of a massive zombie outbreak, I wouldn’t carry much. There is no point in ‘hunting’ zombies. If the outbreak has reached levels that make the military obsolete, I’m not going to launch a personal campaign against them alone. I would certainly have found a safe place to live out the crisis before I gathered any gear. Once I had a safe place, the only reason I would spend much time away from it would be hunter-gatherer missions. Since I would be expecting to carry things back, I wouldn’t take more with me than I absolutely needed.
I wouldn’t wear much. I’m a Floridian. I’ve read about chain mail (too noisy) and shark resistant wetsuits (too binding), but I think that as long as I wore clothes that were clingy, so that a zombie wouldn’t have anything to grab hold of, I would be fine. They are, after all, slow movers, and I’m pretty quick. Dark clothing would certainly be ideal. Field issue tactical pants with a good pair of running shoes and maybe a dark long sleeved t-shirt would be the extent of my ‘going out’ clothes. If my mission required me to carry back anything I couldn’t fit in a “North Face Recon II” backpack, I would drive. A diesel powered Dodge Ram 2500 would be fine. I would of course modify it to have it sit high above a zombies ability to reach into the windows. I’d also have reinforced brush guards, a rock climbing suspension, and onboard stowage for spare batteries and gas cans. Where weapons are concerned I would not carry anything too loud, or anything that needed to be reloaded a lot (like a shotgun). An M-1 would be good, but a couple of silenced Glock 9mms would be perfect. Extra magazines go without saying. I’d have a machete and a long sharp stick as a primary means of defense though. Neither of those need to be reloaded. Oh, and if I could get my hands on a samurai sword that would be my absolute first choice.

Some of the people who posted apparently only shop via an online encyclopedia of guns and ammo. Carrying anything more than a main weapon and a backup is ridiculous because of the weight that is involved. A single bullet doesn't weigh much but add up rounds of ammo in the amounts posted above, plus the weight of the weapons themselves, plus the actual weight of the survival items and you wouldn't be able to out walk a "Z" horde let alone run. Think mobile to stay alive. A good knife, some environmentally appropriate clothing, something to start a fire with, a small axe and some food is about all you can realistically expect to get quickly. Guns and ammo, unless you already have them, aren't going to be overly commom, especially in Canada.

Weapons: A Mauser K98k for long ranged targets, I can carry a good amount of ammo in my pack. For closer range a 1911 colt or even an Uzi (I finally found one for sale, semi-auto of course). My main melee weapon would be a collapsible army shovel, serrated edge for breaking up wood, it can be used tp destroy brains and even as a work tool!
Gear: My backpack is a sort that you would see an army-man carrying, lots of space and additional pouches. I would have ammo for my guns, a med kit, a weatherproof hammock or blanket, matches, 4 cans of mixed veggies, and 3 bottles of water. A night vision scope would be in there too. This altogether weighs a good 50 pounds. Not bad. My clothing: Its a thick material, full combat uniform used by most European defense forces, especially the Irish Defense Forces. Its thick, adjusts to the climate you're in, and is actually pretty comfy. And I would have gloves (with the fingers cut-off at the knuckles for firing purposes) and good hiking boots. These are all the things I have prepared in the event I'd need to set out away from my home.

bcuz i live in Australia weapons arent out and about like in America... not trying to start anything. There is a gunshop nearby but they only sell rifles semi automatic or bolt action, shotguns the break kind im not sure about the pump and pistols ranging from different calibres.
I would get my rugged boots, skinny jeans ( haha i guess retro is useful :P) skin tight shirt with singlet and a nice comfortable pair of breifs. I would then get my black large T-shirt and make a balaclava out of it... it is quite easy to do but i cant describe it lol. I have a hunting knife in my house and a large assortment of knives... plus many poles and broom style handle things in the garage... so i would make a few spears and keep the hunting knife on my person. If possible i would go to the gunshop and get a semi automatic browning .357 rifle... bcuz they are for ametuers, a shotgun of any sort and 2 pistols, one 9mm and the other a .45 i hope :)

OK we all know when the hordes of the undead attack most of us will not have the time to get suplies together, let alone a one person survival kit. If you have the means I would say have all supplies, guns, ect.. ready.
Most of us live in towns or small places, if there was already a kit suck as a back pack that you could buy with some basic stuff you need to survive like a large knife, rations, water, source of light as well as have room for your ammo, and a place to attach a rifle. This would make things alot easier, you could go out to the local store and get one, put some of your ammo, guns with it and at least you could get out of the area in a hurry without worring about getting your stuff together. |

Well, some "exotic" choices out there, hope you can find one when it hits the fan.....
Me, I got a mossberg 500 not ten feet from me, alongside my WASR-10 (Romanian AK for those who don't know) and more ammo and magazines than I can carry. I have two 9mm handguns, a Ruger P89 and a Beretta 92FS police special, both with holsters and each have 3 15-round MAGAZINES (I hate the incorrect usage of "CLIP". A CLIP is something completely different, look below.) I would also grab my Mosin-nagant M44, which I have done some custom work with; The action is bedded and barrel is floated using fire retarded burlap wrap, and an intermediate eye relief burris scope, for the longer shots should they be needed. I have several stripper clips for that, for easy ammunition loading. Its accurate enough to 300 yards for humans/deer, maybe 150 on a zombie head. Along side this for a couple more, my brother's SKS with Tapco fusion setup and 20 round detachable magazine, a Ruger No.1 25-06 for someone who thinks they can snipe (god knows that rifle is more accurate than anyone I know could possibly take advantage of) another mosin nagant, but its an m38 (carbine, no bayonet) and a few .22 LR semiautomatic rifles for the girlies and less experienced. I collect firearms; I am working on getting my FFL 03 Curio and Relic license, no more paperwork on the WWII guns y'all....haha. Along with this all I have canned rations should any major catastrophe occur, 4 finn made gas-masks with extra filters, backpacks and the like out the wazoo. We camp alot so that's all covered. If you're in the Saint Louis area, feel free to hit me up when they come, I got spare guns and ammo. No wusses though. |
