Chuches are terrible places to put up base. There will be religious goons all over spilling out their hearts to god and that will attract the undead. With the huge doors and high set windows it would be perfect if you can empty them of people. I, myself, would hide in the bell tower or steeple. I just can't imagine finding one empty of people..
Hospitals aren't too high on my hide out spots either. The infected would be immediatly taken there, where they would turn. I wouldn't be caught dead in a hospital during a breakout.. I would set up base in a cemetary. I would break into a mausoleam with my supplies and bunk in with the dead. Since they're brains have been long since deactivated it is a secure place. Sure its really creepy but still, if its safe I'm going for it. Also setting up a tree fort wouldnt be a bad idea either. <3

What if i suggest, to the people on this site, that when z-day comes and goes will you be interested in being apart of a bigger and stronger group?
Would you even be able to leave you location that seems safe and has protected you so far? I purpose that the people of this site gather at a single location in the united states, the ones not in the us or Canada will need to make there own locations. I put forth the idea of what a large amount of people can accomplish, and how such a force will come together. Say this site has 10,000 people, 10% survive z-day and have the intention of following the regroup plan, only half of them don't leave the safety of there formalizations or die on route, the other half survive the trip and have one other person with them. That is a force of 1,000 people bent on survival! I suggest we gather in Michigan, it snows in winter, has fertile soil, is surrounded on 3 sides with lakes, and has a large amount of freshwater. I of course suggest gathering at my planed fortified position, but other locations nearby need to be suggested in-case my plan fails or if one location overcrowded. Also locations where people can gather across the united stated on the way to Michigan, for resupply and a larger-force may be better to travel in. Also a time-frame will need to be made where it will be optimal to start traveling long distances, and so the people will arrive in a little trickle so we can expand our food and other safe areas to accommodate the army of "men" (not to put down women, but tough mo fos you know?). Any suggestions? Volunteers? Tough Mo Fos? This is a rough thought so i would like the people to help sharpen this sword. The army of the living to do battle with the dead for all man kind!

I think a farm or cattle ranch is the best place to hide. Even better would be a small, remote farm town. You can organize the people there and together build a huge wall around the village. Also, you can grow your own food.

Central Texas.
I was just thinking that Central Texas would be a great place for long term survival. 1. Has ample annual rain fall. Which means there will be plenty of water for you to drink, or farm with ect. Water is like sex........ you never realize how much you want it till you dont have any ;) 2. Has mild winters. Yeah I know what you are thinking....... zombies cant make it in cold climates, well its tough for us to. Maybe we should weigh out the benefits. 3. Has wild hogs. I did a little research and these wild hogs produce a litter every 4 months. a litter of pigs might be 8 or more. Without human civilization controling them, their population will be sky-rocketing. Plenty of fresh pork on the dinner table everyday. To bad for our Jewish friends ;( 4. Most Texans are gun lovers. Plenty of guns, and plenty of ammo 5. Central Texas is flat and wide open. Good for raising livestock, farming, and threats will be seen easily. Thats all I have for now. Let me know if you have anything else

After Z-DAY I will have hopefully survived. And living with my squad we will eventually run low on food and ammunition. Does anyone know of really good places to raid during an outbreak without running into to many zombies?

1. Hospital: 2 words...DEATH WISH. i mean shure....if you take the time resources and manpower to clean it thouroghly. but those resources are better spent going other places...
2. A Military Base: Sounds good...not in actuallity... the first thing the goverment will do is protect the bases...becuse the LAST THING the goverment wants is abandoning a base only to comeback and find 'the suprime warloard of deluth' in control. That and most bases might have hospitals on site and i already established that Hospitals=bad things happen to your insides. 3.Wal-Mart: not the best... unless you have a moderate size group.. it has alot of resources sure. But once the power goes out, how do you keep the perishables from rotting? Not all Wal-marts have generators. You have to clean it out first, the camera system would make it easier to secure, provided you have power. It takes LOTS of power to keep a advrage walmart operating, even during closing hours. But the major problem is the GLASS ENTRY WAY! does ok against a couple. But a couple dozen could get through. bad day for you. 4.Your House: Depends, but still up there. factors include vicinity of resource areas, location, building type etc... but still a valid option. 5.A church: hmmm, lone surviviors get infected, last bullet used on attacking zombie. were you go? CHURCH!!! no resurces or supplies. 6. A Mountian: Zombies can't climb. SCORE! bad news, rockslide/avalance just took out your fortress. 7. Off-shore oil rig: SCORE! perfect spot, provided you can get to it and know/learn how to operate equipment. most have own greenhouses, hospitals, and other facitlitys. including an armory in some areas. crew would have been sent home to familys, perfect! as long as it doesnt corrode and fall into sea. 8. Sky-scraper: nuh uh. lotz o zombies here, NEXT! 9. Home depot: Apply Walmart, remove food and guns. to be continued

It will take a LONG time to set a SAFE route to the Hospital, then the wal-mart, THEN the prison. First of all. There is more bad than good in a hospital. I mean, yeah, loads of medicine, but what about the zeds that may still be trapped in those rooms???? What about them? It would be hard. Then the wal-mart. Some insane idiot grabs a rifle and starts killing people for money and ammo. It would be hard to kill a guy that just got a bullet-proof vest from a cop, a magnum from a gun collector, a few shotties from those hunters, and like 6 9mm. handguns from the normal people. I think he could hold like 4 guys at once. It would be easier to confront the zombies than him. Kill him and some selfish person in your group grabs the bullet-proof vest and shottie and goes "THIS IS MINE!!!!" and points the gun at you saying he's the new leader, he needs to be disposed of. You DEFINATELY don't want a selfish leader to make it. So you're forced to get the 9mm. handguns along with your first 9mm. Crappy deal huh? Now the prison gets the risk of renegades with like, 50cal. guns. You're screwed there. Also that some inmates have taken over the prison and tries to make YOU a prisoner. But send some REALLY stealthy scouts armed with silenced pistols in. To make sure you don't walk into a trap. If it's clear. Welcome to your new TEMPORARY (Like a couple of months maybe) home! Realease some NON-insane prisoners. They could help! So that's my thing.

Assuming no clue on what kind / number of people are zombified:
1,2,8,12,18,22,23,24,25: Very bad. Too many entrances, complex space to control, a lot of zombies already guaranteed to be inside. 3: A good one. Not a lot of corridors, open space to control, few entrances to barricade, supplies. Few zombies to kill when you enter. 4: Depends on construction. If many windows at ground level, worst. If not, best, till you decide what to do next. Security door, even normal door, can never be brought down by zombies, as it would require synchronized attack my many persons to fall, not asynchronous pounding by zombie fists. One week supplies can last for a month if rationed. Familiar place. 5,14,20: Average. Few entrances to control, open space inside, usually no windows at ground level or fortified, moderate to very strong doors. No supplies. 6: strictly depends on what building one will find for refuge. Better if climbing is required. For escape, distract zombies at one side then escape from the other. Too many zombies to completely surround a mountain are very unlikely in an urban area. 7: At least 500 zombied workers guaranteed to welcome you. If you have sufficient manpower / firepower to secure the Oil Rig, then you can also as well roam the land for better long term refuge. 10: Preparation for quick death if things get desperate. 13: Trapped. 15: One of the best. Fortified to resist theft invasion, still openings to shoot all gathered zombies with ample ammunition till clear to escape for better long term shelter. 17: Very good. Supplies, well fenced, open space at school garden. Bad if zombification occurred during school hours. 19: As good as any store with supplies, depending on construction. 21: Depends on entrances / construction / fenced open spaces. Best: Secured Island, Gun Shop, Own Home. 26: Best of all IF SECURED, for short and long term. |

A mountain is not a bad place to go.... just make sure you get OFF the mountain.
Your house is THE BEST place to go. As long as you board it up. A gun shop is good. ALOT of guns... Board it up and BINGO! A school is good too because the have many STRONG doors. Atleast at my school the have metal doors about 4 inches thick! A grocery store IS a VERY goo place. They have food. You bring weapons. One of our grocery stores JUST got metal Over thi windows and doors. It closed down and I know a way I could sneek in.

I beleive that a bad place to go to if you only have a low amount of people and fire arms would be any building or store with alot of windows because there wouldnt be anought people to cover each flank and you would most likly not last very long. I also go with the hospitale being bad because there would be abunch of stupid doctors thinking they could cure them and they would all just get bit making more zombies that would attack you then everyone would be done for. A idea that i think would be good is a large tree house that connects with other other tree houses. Since zombies can most likely not climb it would be a good and since its in the bush there won't be zombies everywere. You could put pales on the room for water form the rain and make short trips to near by buildings to get food and weapons.
I hope you found this useful also Im gonna test out my tree house theory. |

It seems to me that huge structures such as oil rigs, skyscrapers, prisons, and the like would be bad places to fortify. Such a large building would provide countless hidings places for skin jobs, while smaller buildings are not only easier to fortify, but they are easier to sweep and remove any skin jobs that are residing in the building. In addition, military bases are magnets to raiders. Lots of weapons, fortification, etc.

Actually sounds like the best of all these choices. I think about this often, locales and all, and theatres have heavy locking doors, food, water, rooftop access and escape options, and lest we not forget, are almost always attatched to malls for more food/water, clothing, security radios/weapons, and of course cinematic irony. Good thinking Miller38

These things are so unsafe when there are no zombies. I think they would be worse than Walmart. At Walmart there is the slight chance you can get ahold of the guy in the sporting goods section and get something to shoot them with. Cant do that in college.

well, first off the hospital is the worst place. They always have those glass doors and stuff and NO food. All they have is a bunch of crazy doctors and such trying to figure out wth is going on, just like you. Personally out of all of that, I would go with the millitary base. Free food, guys running around in circles to protect you, and if you need you can just run the heck out of there. This might be the wrong choice though, as they may freak out when a zombie gets in, put you on a bus and your driveing through infected not geting your own descision. So if you dont like the sound of that, 2nd would probaly be Walmart. Food, entertainment and such, though some might not be suitable as there are to many ways in. if thats the case, home depot. Its got, agein, entertainment. I dont think there heavy on food, but they could be in shoping centers next to groccery stores. 2nd worte would be sky scraper. No food, entertainment and no way out.
