Logistics

“Amateurs talk tactics; Professionals Talk Logistics.”
Anonymous Militry Axiom.

So you have all your guns and your bombs and your planes and your trucks…
How do you get to the front lines? Where do you get fuel? Ammo? Beans? Boots? You can have all the hardware on Earth, but without the things that make them work, you’re wasting time. Even more critical than your ubra-perfecto mega-death-on-wheels machine is the GAS to make it go; Even more critical than the mega-machinegun is the BULLETS to make it talk; Even more critical than the team of hand-picked buddies perfectly loyal to YOUR mini-dictatorship is the FOOD to keep them alive. Even deceptively simple things, water, boots, tires, cleaning kits, can prove devastatingly critical if not attended to contentiously and continuously.

Yes, that’s right; I’m a Vault Dweller and a Tribal, and one BAD MOTHER... Matter of fact, once, just for drill, I killed literally everyone on Terra I could find- Kids, too. And in Den 3, that ain’t easy, lemme tell ya.
But, the games did give me an insight into logistics; Moving vast amounts of material over long distances by itself was a challenge. GETTING the material was- Well, not impossible, so much as REALLY hard. Like stupid hard…
First, you gotta depot the material. That means put everything of one given type together. All bullets on one shelf, say at the Children’s Library, for example. Then you gotta decide what stays, what goes, how, and how far.
Then you gotta kick in the door; At the Cathedral, that’s easy enough; The Library is very proximal to the Cathedral, so you can forward-position bullets, stimpacks, etc, and take a little bit of time to get what you need. Of course, it’s simply best to go in there and kill EVERYTHING at the front door, then dump a few packs full of gear right there until you’ve take control o the Main Chapel, but I digress…
At Milposa it’s a bit more of a challenge; The way I did it was to dump a few packs at the Cave, then march back and forth to get whatever I needed to kill ONE muty at the main gate, kill him, then run out… But again, another matter for another time... The important point is this heavy, complex, plan to collect all the gear you’ll need, then move it from one base to another… It’s a good game to at least give you a concept of the issues you MIGHT face…
Do you find this valuable?
