These Instructions will teach you how to convert almost any clear plastic container into planters that will allow you to start growing crop several months before the normal planting season. These planters can be placed on top of walls or even hung from the sides of buildings, saving precious room on growing fields for other crops

You will need:

• a pair of wire cutters of other heavy duty cutting implement
• an awl or other device capable of poking through a plastic container
• several clear plastic containers
• some soil
• seeds

Step 1. Remove the cap or lid from the top of the jug.

Step 2. Use the wire cutters to cut the container in two starting about four inches from the bottom. This will allow you easy access to your crops. Be sure to mark each jug as you cut them as they may not all fit together if they get mixed up.

Step 3. Use the awl to poke six eight holes in the bottom of the container. If the container has an uneven bottom be sure to make the holes at the lowest spots. These holes will allow extra water to drain out and prevent your crops from rotting.

Step 4. Fill the bottom half of the jugs with soil and plant the seeds for your crop. The number of seeds and the depth of the soil will depend on the crop being grown. If your seeds are from a package you should follow the instructions on the back. keep this packet you will need it later

Step 5. Use duck tape or another durable waterproof tape to reattach the top and bottom half of the jugs.

You now have several planters with crops growing inside them. depending on your location and the crop you are growing these planter may allow you to double your harvest. Be sure to water your crops regularly and monitor their growth.

Once your crops begin to get too large for the planters (in tall crops such as corn and tomatoes this is when they start to grow out the hole in the top) you should remove them from the planters and relocate them to your growing fields. Refer to the seed packet for instructions on placement.
