Your Name: Matt
Your "handle" should we look for you on the radio waves or web: flakmagnet
Your location: The city of York, United Kingdom

Tell us:
Is your plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? Plan can be adapted to anywhere, but is presumed that a large zombie outbreak would occur either whilst I was at home or at work.

Will you be staying in your home or headed somewhere else? Initially staying at home, it is already relatively secure, and I usually have enough food to last at least 2 weeks under a small siege. Because York is not as densely populated as most cities in America, or even the larger cities in the UK like London, avoiding large hordes to get home should be relatively easy on foot or by bike using a mixture of stealth and speed. Should the outbreak force me to leave my home, I have a fall back point in a nearby forest that is about 2 days fast trekking away from both my city and the nearest other large settlements. Most of the way is rural, so there should be little resistance.

If you're heading out, how do you plan to get there? Planning to go by foot, meaning I can take others with me, not relying on other members of my party having bikes available, though will take mountain bikes for use when there.

Got anyone you want to take with you? My girlfriend, if possible, my parents, my two best friends, who happen to live on route to the fall back location. Plus a doctor and three nurses live in my street, so any of them I can convince to come along are a bonus.

How will you communicate with the outside world, or do you plan to go the hermit route? Pretty much the hermit route. There aren't any physical structures at the fall back place, just a good clearing that is easily defend-able and within easy reach of plenty of raw materials with which to make a shelter and plenty of food to forage in the short term, land to grow crops on in the long term. Because my team will be busy building shelter etc for the foreseeable future, we would be too busy for the outside world. However, once we were secure, I would consider building a second shelter, away from the first, sending a scout on the aforementioned bikes, to lead any other survivors and form a small community from there.

How are you planning to get food and water? The site I have chosen is close to a lake, so water shouldn't be a problem, though it may need to be heated before drinking. As for food, there are lots of places to forage nearby, plenty of animals in the forest around, and enough room to grow crops.

What's your weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that? I won't be taking out many zombies, only defence when absolutely necessary, however, I have a crowbar in my toolbox which I would favour, and would be taking with me in order to have the equipment to build a shelter. Should I not get to that, guns are not as easily attainable as in the US, so I would most likely favour a machete.

Got a survival philosophy? Travel fast, light, and only when necessary. Don't take stupid risks.

Are you willing to hook up with other survivors? Yes, as long as they have some useful skill in the initial run to the fall back point, like someone strong who could help build, or someone who had useful supplies. Afterwards, once the secondary shelter had been established, I would be more open to anyone who could act within a group.

Is your plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist we may have heard of? Based off and adapted from ideas in the Zombie survival guide by Max Brooks. Tailored to my needs for my own physical location, abilities and financial means.

General Notes: This plan is intended for when zombies start to seriously outnumber humans, and is based on the theory that by being well away from densely populated urban areas, unless I or a member of my party are trailed by zombies, it is unlikely that many, if any, will be encountered when in the fall back shelter. Those that do stumble upon us by accident are likely to be few in number, and very rare. Because of the layout of the terrain, we will be able to see the zombies coming and prepare to fight those few, or if necessary, flee to another area.
