Part 1: Bugging In
When news first hits of an outbreak I would first send my family to my friend matt's house which will be our base of opperations, due to the fact that he has a cb radio, short wave radio Marine VHF hand held, an exstensive medical kit, M16, 12 gauge and other guns, also he has a roof top garden (Not to mention a sh*t load of canned food). and when they arrive he would already be filling up his car and buckets with gasoline at the local hess station (3 minute car ride away). During that time, me and my friend zak will be taking the solar panels off my roof and putting them in my moms car with my outbreak bag. then i will call my friend jesse and tell him to grab his compound bow and move with his family to matts house as well. then i will drive my moms car there with zak and the solar panels. then zak, matt, jesse an myself will drive to the local ace hardware and take everthing on our predetirmined list (ply wood, nails, crowbars, hammers, ect.) and go back to the base. once there we will take matts chainsaw(NOT USEING AS A WEAPON) and chop up the stairs. after words we will hook up the solar pannels to the main house. with all this done we would begin to barricade the windows on the second floor(Just to be safe).the orginizing the supplies, counting the people, and begin to figure out how we will ration our food. during this stage we will not be accepting surviviors
Part 2: Bugging Out
After everything dies down we will get in my moms mini van, jesses envoy and matts HUMV and drive to across one of the only 3 bridges into long beach, new york, otherwise unacessable (accept by boat) and raise the bridge. that way no more zeds can get in. the we will scurge this small town block by block. clearing every house with an intese room by room search useing DevilsNut's system. and once there we will have access to the police armory, and some additional food(most likely not)
Part 3: Living
We would live off the ocean. fish for our food and have gardens on the roves for a change every once in a while. still sweep the bulding daily for supplies and any stragilers for the first week or so after declaried safe. then we would start burning the bodies and cleaning the houses for living. a large number of houses have solar power in long beach, so we would spread these solar thoughs out throught the living houses and the quarantine house. but a number of these solar panels would be used for the fresh water system. Long Beach has a large undergrtound fresh water supply that has pumping stations throughout the town. we would have a number of the panels to be hooked up to these stations so that the house have running water. as jobs we would have people running these stations, fisherman, security, docters, and many other jobs. we would start to use the boats on wind power for the majority of the time, unless dier emergencys we would use precious fuel. and in the event that zeds would get onto land we would just retreat to the bay or ocean(depending on where they come from) and fight them with are backs againts the ocean and if the get to close, then well just get on the boats and fall fare enough back that they cant grab hold of the boats. once that happens we will slowly move towards the land again picking zeds off from the boats. if there are still surviviors and they conntact us we will tell them to met us somewhere accros the bridge where we would pick them up, take there weapons and quaratine them for 1 week. they will be feed and watchted on a basic 7 camera securtiy system. to see if there are any syptoms of infeections being displayed, if so, the persons is allowed to say their goodbyes and either killed quick and painless or sent across the bridge.
Please comment if you see anything wrong with this plan, i see that the ace hardware may be a problem but if you see anything els please leave a thread

There is a chance the police armory will already be cleared out.
Also corpses can float, a lot of people don't notice that but a dead body can float for a while so zeds can still get to your island. For fishing get a military survival manual, they have info on all sorts of different fish traps and fishing apparatuses.

About the bridge part you mentioned:
1.) Someone has already lifted the bridge OR 2,) If you do lift the bridge, what about every else that needs to get over?
