This supply list is for a post apocalyptic survival colony is not written with an over-emphasis on zombie survival. materials would be collected prewar and colonists would be transported to the colony at the first sign of trouble. probable locations are the west cost near oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, or Utah, as close to the mountains as possible and above the water table, as the majority of the shelter will be underground. Please don’t reproduce or edit it without my permission. If anyone has suggestions leave them in the comment section or contact me. The list is sorted by the subject which the items are related to.
Livestock and related facilities: All numbers are estimates; breeding pairs are preferred unless otherwise noted. More specific advice on facilities is available on-line.
- 12 hens 1 rooster plus 3 hens per extra person and 1 rooster per 20 hens
Reasons; Meat, Eggs, possibly down.
- 2 goats or sheep, plus one per 3 people
Reasons: Meat, milk, wool, goats provide companionship, so can sheep if you’re Scottish
Reasons: Herding, Hunting game/Zed, companionship, protection, emergency food
- 2 Oxen, plus one per 5-10 people
Reasons: Milk, Meat, Leather, Labor, riding
- Mule, horse or other riding animal if fuel is not available, extra’s as necessary.
Facilities: Barn, Stable, Chicken Coop, Corral, Vet facility.
Crops and related facilities/equipment: I didn’t include specific acreage because I don’t know much about crop yields.
- A Grain (Such as wheat or rice)
- A Legume (a bean)(Any combination of a grain and legume will provide all 8 essential amino acids)
- Corn for animal feed and human consumption
- Potatoes
- Tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers and assorted vegetables such as onions, peas, radishes, spinach, squash, tomatoes, watermelon, and egg plant (the more variety the better)
- Spices such as rosemary, oregano and basil which are easy to grow (these go a long way towards ensuring the happiness of your people, and medicinal herbs can help ensure their health)
- Fruit trees, preferably citrus as a source of vitamin C (strangely enough humans and guinea pigs are the only mammals which cannot produce their own Vitamin C so an source must be found and maintained)
- Luxury plants such as Nut trees/ grapes, and aromatics if possible, to provide variety to an otherwise bland diet.
- Bio-diesel or ethanol producing plant such as soybeans or corn
- Enough canned food and MREs to last 2 years until your crop can be established (so a start doesn’t mean certain death)
Equipment: tractors, combines, wheat threshers and other harvesting equipment, fertilizer, plow pull-able by oxen. You should have backup equipment that allows you to harvest your crop without fossil fuels.
Facilities: Storage barn, silo, very large refrigerator/freezer, Small bio-tech lab (not as expensive as you’d think) for small scale drug production (penicillin, not meth) and food safety testing (especially important if your collecting canned goods from the wasteland)

Additional Facilities:· Communal entertainment area/lounge with board games, TV (there are plenty of series I’ve never watched on DVD), Card Games, Puzzles, Video Games (Have things that don’t require power to run preferably)
· Living Quarters for Individuals/ small groups (try to keep as many things private as possible unless impractical. If space is limited allow unskilled survivors to sleep in larger groups.
· Library containing how-to books and manuals teaching survival, farming, Mechanics, plumbing, repairs, blacksmithing and other important subjects, along with entertaining books, and Homeschooling materials (Can’t let the children group up mindless)
· Garage for vehicle and farm equipment storage
· Generator Room
· Utilities maintenance room
· Personal and Public Storage, Including armory
· Defensible positions for raider and Zed defense
· Facility must be hidden always, and fenced in during a zombie invasion, although this is less important under other circumstances. (although still recommended)

· Chemist/Biologist (I’m in college for this now)
· Good leader (not necessarily me, democracy is preferred except during crises, during which the most able leader takes charge. Also my equipment, supplies, crops, is under my jurisdiction, not the group leaders)
Notes:· Other workers may be necessary to care for livestock and farmland
· The experienced Soldier/instructor will teach the other survivors in the art of war, and the other specialists will take on apprentices and teach the others the basics of their crafts so losing one of them isn’t a death-blow.
· Other survivors will only be allowed into the colony only if they satisfy some or all of these requirements.
1. They have a necessary skill
2. There are enough supplies to feed them
3. They are not infected with any communicable disease
4. They have a supply we need
As quartermaster I will decide who gains entrance to the colony. Only the group as a whole can banish a member of the colony
· The facility I have in mind is either a disarmed nuclear silo or communications bunker from the cold war era, which in the United States are occasionally found for sale to the public, thus many of the necessary facilities would be found underground to allow us to survive a prolonged siege from raiders and Zed, and be capable of withstanding a nuclear explosion. The facility must be above the water table of the area to avoid flooding, and must also be near arable soil. Because it is underground heating costs will be minimal and escape hatches will provide an easy route to escape even the largest swarm or raiding party should a breach occur (there isnt much that can breach a silo).
If i had this facility i wouldn't have to worry about getting there because id live there full time. you could join me if you had any of the above listed skills (Ill let you know if i win the lottery) pessimistic cost estimate with silo=20-40 million US Dollars.
