Melee Combat TipsThis is a featured page

I would not consider myself a combat expert and have never fought a Zed before so that part is merely speculation based on experience on living targets. I have learned a bit of Eskrima as well as a few other unarmed martial arts but again, I AM NOT AN EXPERT!

NOTE THAT WHILE I GIVE TECHNIQUEs WITH WHICH TO KILL OPPONENTS I BY NO MEANS CONDONE MURDER. IF THE TARGET CAN'T FIGHT BACK ONLY DISPOSE OF THEM IF THEY CONTINUE TO THREATEN YOUR SAFETY, WHETHER THROUGH DIRECT OR INDIRECT ACTIONS.

Basic Tips:
1. Stay aware of your surroundings. Tripping over a trashcan with a murderous human or Zed coming at you will mostly likely end your fight quicker than it began.
2. Do NOT panic. If you lose your cool you will be a much more susceptible target to anyone.
3. Do NOT lose your cool. If you get angry and start wildly swinging, you will accomplish two things; 1) You will get tired, 2) You will get dead.
4. Work out and train. A strong mind and strong body will result in success a lack of one or the other increases chance of loss and/or death.\
5.Learn you tool. Learn how you weapon is balanced and which suits you best.
6. Economy of movement is crucial. Make as little movement as you can with the biggest result. Flourishes are for movies and have no place in real fighting.
7. Get real training and practice. While learning techniques may be useful it is hardly effective unless you practice and get a feel for these moves through sparring.
8. Be skeptical. Not everything you hear about fighting actually works and I don't see why my guide is any different. If it sounds crazy, it probably is.
9. Be realistic. Don't expect crazy spin kicks here
10. Be safe. When practicing sparring make sure you wear proper safety gear and NEVER injure your sparring partner or yourself.
11. Don't get involved with zeds in melee combat. Its just too risky as blood splatter could infect you as easily as a bite.

Bladed Short Weapons:
These are any short bladed weapons such as knifes, that don't require two hands to use.

Tips:
1. DO NOT "STAB" UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! Long hand stabs are not only inefficient in terms of energy, they also leave your guard open and have a slow recovery.
2. Short, quick slashes or jabs . Like stabbing long strokes are inefficient in energy and leave you open for counterattack. Short quick slashes and jabs to vulnerable faces, soft flesh, or areas of movement are the most effective way to wear down and damage opponent while staying balanced and guarded. Once you have effectively crippled the target and halted their attack on you, focus on elimination if they still pose a threat. An effective kill is to stand behind the target, and grab their chin and pull upwards exposing the throat. Once you have done that, pull the knife around their neck in 180 degrees as deeply as you can, cutting the jugulars and often the windpipe. Obviously if it's a zed don't put your hand near their chin. This technique also relies on exsanguination (bleeding out) and if the zed has no pulse this won't effect them in the least. To destroy the brain I recommend disabling their movement then stomping on the skull until it breaks (yes, it takes ALOT of force and time)
3. Run from Zeds if you have a knife and they only die if the brain is destroyed. It's too hard to do this with a cutting weapon.

Blunt One Handed Weapons:
Maces, short bats and anything else you can bash bones and flesh with and hold and swing in one hand.

Tips:
1. Swing hard, but not too hard. If you miss with a blunt weapon you will have a long recovery. Aiming is of vital importance so make sure you will do damage, but also make sure you can control you swing.
2. Aim for the skull, neck, ribs or extremities. If you hit the skull the target with either die, get knocked out, or be stunned. The neck will likely result in paralysis or death. Arms and legs don't move so well with broken bones. Breaking ribs works better than hitting the target in the gut as it will have the same effect but also shatter the ribs, restricting movement.
3. When aiming for the arms or legs aim for the upper arms or thighs respectively. These are less likely to be flailing around, resulting in higher accuracy and therefore less recovery. Also, when stuck they don't "roll with the punch" as much because they are closer to the torso, resulting in less lost energy and less lost energy means more damage. Also breaking these bones will disable everything below it as well, meaning you actually increase the amount you have restricted their movement.
4. To finish them off make absolutely sure you have immobilized the target then put ass much strength as you can behind a swing to the head or neck. A solid hit should either destroy the spine or shatter the skull, either of which is pretty much instant death.

That's all for now but I will add more as I learn more about two handed weapon combat.
I highly recommend Eskrima to all people who want to learn a highly effective martial art that uses mostly one handed weapons. There are various training videos all over the web. Have fun!

Yes. I want you to look up Systema and give your thoughts on it. It is Russian and is approximately 10 centuries old. Systema is the name for it made by the Special Operations units of SpetsNaz. Look it up, I think you'll like what you see.
