A Bug Out Bag or BOB is a pack you can carry that contains various items you will need to survive for a short period of
time when you have to Bug Out and leave modern conveniences behind. There are a number of emergencies that can
come up in your life where you may find yourself in a situation that requires you to leave town. This could be caused by
a force of nature, social uprising, a bad day at work, black plague, terrorism, or even a ZOMBIE OUTBREAK. No matter
what the cause, you need to be prepared for anything. The most important resource to be prepared, besides a level
head and experience in dealing with the specific situation, would be a handy collection of tools and supplies.

790superstar: my bug out bag is a 3 day assault pack, its got a first aid kit, 2 disposable bic lighters, waterproof matches, switzerland victorinox combo knife, SOG Seal Pup, 300 rounds of .45 cal JHP ammo, 180 rounds of 7.62x39 JHP ammo, set of BDUs, pair of boots, extra change of underwear and socks, crank style flashlight/radio/strobe/alarm, water purification tablets, 3 liter camelback, compass, and a couple MREs. right next to my BOB is my AK47 with tac rails and m6 tac-light with galil folding stock and vertical foregrip and 4 loaded mags, custom build M1911A1 with 10 loaded mags all on modular thigh rig, with counter balancing blackhawk 6 mag pistol ammo pouch on opposite side. This may seem heavy to a lot of people, but this is pretty much the weight i normally carry in my line of work.

Dvergamali: My BOB has a basic first aid kit, 2 bic lighters, a multitool with plyers, Ka-Bar attatched to outter bag, 2 packs of dental floss (more usefull than you think!), a crank style flashlight and some small binoculars. Also, I have a few cans of Spam, Chlorine tablets for water purification some water bottles and a small hammer/prybar combo tool. Next to bag ready to go is my machete in sheath and my handguns. I have a Bersa Thunder .380 and a Walther p22 with 3 full clips. The Walther though a low cal gun I think can be very effective plus you can carry ALOT of .22 ammo. I have an Altoids tin in the bag holding a mini sewing kit with the folding scissors. The strap of the bag I have a small utillity knife on left side and a hocky puck style flashlight on the right. I have a smaller bag that can attatch to the larger that has a Fiskars folding saw and some small hand pruner. Very handy for cutting branches ect. for making a lean-to or some other shelters. I also have a roll of artificial sinew which is a very strong cord that is great for wrapping tool handles, tying branches together or stitching leather. I have alot of tools in my truck (Dodge ram 1500) along with a very, very nice first aid kit in a .30 cal ammo can.

Jukiness: My BOB contains a few essential tools: Magnesium Lighter, Bic Lighter, Pocket Knife, Survival Knife. Rations: MRE's, water purification bottle, MRE Heaters. Entertainment: Playing Cards, iPod with one full charge (when it dies it hangs out until i go back to civilization or find a better use for it) Pens + Paper. Protection: If possible a large caliber handgun with Hollowpoint/hollowtip/exploding rounds so as to better vaporize zombie brain tissue, a large rust resistant Khukuri Machete. Other: Camping goods such as sleeping bag, rope, plastic bags, extra water bottle, and extra clothes.

I'd have to say my bag wouldn't be too shabby. I'd have a limited number of canned goods, dehydrated food, several liters of water, water purification tablets, a water purification pump, two pairs of light hiking socks (marino wool), one pair of jeans, a water wicking/breathable shirt, toothbrush and toothpaste, and The Zombie Survival Guide. On the outside of the pack (carried) we have Nylon rope, a machete with scabbard, and a small crowbar.

Bundy747: My BOB would have to be a rook style sack, or other wise a over-sized backpack with a structured frame and waist straps for support and ease of carry. Contained within would be several essential items that would help sustain myself during a journey to a stronghold. Maps of Ohio (state I live in) and other surrounding states…would be useful to help stay off main roads. I would have semi-auto colt 1911 .45cal w/4 loaded mags, 70 extra rounds for the colt, enough MREs to last 3 people weeks, 3 liters of water in a built-in camel-back (yes, it really is((its a must to be hydrated while holding of zombies)), a 4'2" stainless steel katana clipped to the side of the bag, a sawed-off magazine-fed 12 gauge shotgun w/ tactical reflex sight,15 tool swiss army knife, 4" stainless steel locking blade, bendable head candle lighter (set things on fire you couldn't before!) 1 full sized mag light, one crank up flashlight, 1 crank up radio. 1 jumbo first aid kit ( i know you cant treat zombie bites) 2 or 3 pairs of glasses ( i have horrible vision, and backups are necessary) 10-12 pairs of contacts (your screwed when your glasses slide off). $100, cash, and a lock-pick set, a small crowbar, and finally 20' of 1/2"Diameter composite rope.

Also a machete on the right side and a combat ready M1 Carbine with 100 extra rounds and a strap-on flashlight to one of the straps with rechargeable shake batteries (a little extra from running from zombies. Also enough Rationed Food to last a few weeks and two canteens. Also a bottle of lighter fluid and a .45 handgun with 100 extra rounds in clips and a telescopic sight on the rifle and a night vision pair of binoculars that double as ordinary binoculars with a strap.

c1nderellacastle: My Bug-Out-Bag is one of those over-sized cheetah print status numbers, which helps with camoflage a bit. All packed and ready are a 3000 degree fresnel lens for starting fires and burning zombies, my favorite coffee cup, a nice cashmere sweater, and my little dog, good for zombie bait and possible food. Pretty much everything else can be looted later from someplace like Costco.

Deganveran: My current Bug-Out-Bag is an slightly modified Alice Infantry pack. In it, for food and such, are four cans of soup/beans, two MRE's, four packs of dehydrated food substitute sticks, beef jerky, tea and instant coffe bags with condiment packs. For general stuff I have6 glow sticks, a waterproof (and non waterproof) notepad with pens, pencils and grease pencils. For fire needs I have regular matches, water proof matches and water/wind proof matches and fire starter sticks. I have chlorine tablets and three leak proof water bottles, a canteen attached to the pack. I have maps of the national parks in the area and the city. I have nylon paracord (550 lbs limit, fifty feet), twine and sewing thread. I have antibacterial wipes and lotion.
I have a iron cup with a long handle to drink from/boil liquid with and plenty of cloth towels/eye protection and mosquito spray. For first aid kits I have three, two large ones and one small, bag-able one. The large first aid kits I have added extra things to such as vitamins, pain killers and visine.


What I need is weaponry. If I have my choice I'd want a Calico M-950 with the 100 round cylindrical magazine firing 9 mm parabellums. I'd want three spare clips. For close up work I could use a machete or my baseball bat (which I am much better attuned with combat wise). For long range Id want a Winchester Centennial High Wall Hunter with 30-06 caliber rounds or the new sport hunter model shooting .22's

A flint striker ('Cause lighters run out of fluid eentually but the flint will last much longer even though it might not go on the first strike.), 2 first aid kits, a bolt cutter, a switchblade (Not meant to take on loads of zombies but if one come close a quick stab to the head could take care of them..and also, if a survivor freaks and tries to take over or something, it can also be used to show them who's boss.), machete, a baseball bat, and i dunno what this bag looks like but if it was a backback like mine, then I'd have my skateboard within reach (Not like it's gonna hurt anything, but it would be nice to cruise around a bit if you were in a place without many zombies, and it's always a little bit faster than walking.), and for the last things in the bag..a couple cans of lighter fluid (A nice building full of burning zombies is always a great way to start the day!), and food and water...more preferably canned foods rather than something that would spoil easy (Fruits, Meat and Fish.).

ShotgunMan: In my bag (a gym bag), I would have a 9mm handgun (whatever one I can get my hands on first) and extra magazines for it, a box of 12-Gauge shells and a survival knife in one pocket with the shotgun tied to the outside. As for survival supplies, I could take a lighter and a can of fluid, a radio, a cell phone and battery charger, a road map, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, batteries for the radio and flashlight, and my wallet (with money, ID, etc.) I would also take a couple boxes of Kraft Dinner and crackers and bags of chips (maybe a couple of candy bars), and a few cans of pop and bottles of water in the other side pocket.

Loki_Mast: for this to make sence i should let it be known that im in iraq right now and my bug out bag here is entireley different from the one back home....My bug out bag here contains 2 mres 1 spare uniform 3 pairs of socks, 3 tan tshirts 3 pairs of undergarments, a magnesium fire starter my m16a2 w/210 rnds of ammo(7 full mags) zippo fluid 2 books surefire 3 volt batteries plus some random aa and aaa batteries camel pak improved first aid kit and k-bar. my wallet is always in my back pocket w/id debit card and checkbook if the system dosent go down plus im a smoker so i always have a lighter on me also sunglasses boot knife watch surefire multi tool. the first dead person that i come across carying and 9 mil will be relived of said weapon and that is bug out bag here.

I understand this pack is weapons-light, however, this pack was conceived as part of a group initiative, other members in my group had packs that contained similar items with different weapons. Also, at nearly forty pounds, this is a heavy pack (not including the weight of the pack itself), adding much more equipment would make it far too heavy to be comfortable. Sorry, I can not give a cost estimate of the items in the pack, most were purchased over a period of several years.

Klesh: in my non-existing bug out bag i would use just in case of an extreme emergency i would first get my "dress for success" clothes on which consists of some army digi pants with a belt that has a drop leg pistol holster (which is where i put my sidearm), my glock knife, and a bunch of random extra mag. pouches. then i put on a regular black shirt and camo jacket over.

In Hand: in hand i would probably carry a .22 or a shotgun. something maneuverable so to not get tied down.

The Bag: The bag would consist of all other firearms and ammo i have or could find/buy. (The guns don't work as well without ammo!). then i would put any band-aids, peroxide, lighters, matches, and water and canned goods as i could find. i would try not to carry to much of it for too long AKA- safe drop point or secured locked location. Then make the best of it and get me some zombies!!!!!!

My Bug out bag is a three bag setup one to give to all of my teammates because you can not live through Z-day alone.

Bag 1:( mountain climbers style backpack) 12 gauge shotgun as primary weapon with 50 shells of ammo, a machete as melee weapon with sharping tool, pistole with 100 shots of ammo, a lock-pick system, cable cutter, crowbar, hatchet, two flashlights that charge themselves, one day supply of water, two days supply of food, a two way radio and a map with info on terrain, buildings, suggested zombie hot spots, and objectives. Finally directional equipment.

Bag 2: (big gym bag) a long range rifle as primary weapon with 120 shells and range finding equipment and scope and silencer, a short edge blade for a melee weapon, a map with the set up as the map in bag 1, binoculars, compass, small video camera, small assault rifle to be carried out of bag in your hands with 200 rounds, As much water and food as possible.

Bag 3:(two one armed bags) one holds a full field medical supply kit plus extra if it can fit. The second bag holds a semi-automatic rifle with 175 rounds and scope. A gladius for melee weapon and a semi-automatic carbine that share the same ammo as the rifle

My Bug out bag is pretty basic to be honest, i'm thinking short term survival til i flee my city, then i'll forage after i get out! I have a "Blackhawk" 3-day pack with an intergrated "Camel-Back" water pack, 3 Meals, ready to Eat packs, a change of socks/underwear. My trusty sleeping bag and K-Bar Combat Knife. For nightime i have a "Sure-Fire" tac-light mounted on my M500 Pistol grip pump shotgun, with a bandolier that hold 50 rounds. My back-up weapon is my baby, my modified GLOCK-17 combat pistol, with 6 18 round magazines i'm good to go. By my bug-out bag is my KDH body armor with intergrated knife sheath/ammo carriers and first aid med-kit. And a crowbar, its like American express never leave home without it!!!

StrykerPez: My BOB is packed in a mil surplus ALICE pack that I removed the frame from for added storage and portability convienence. I had to use some electrical conduit to replace a small part of the frame where the straps attached. It is packed with water and rations for 72 hours, a small first aid kit, a small amount of cash (in early stages of any disaster / outbreak, some people will still want cash), one change of clothes, NIOSH respirator, a handheld spotlight, a LED flashlight, a hunting knife, a small folding tarp, small tool kit, water purification tablets, duct tape, .22LR Ruger 6 shot single action pistol (general purpose shooting if I have no time to grab my other guns), baby wipes, portable CB radio and portable scanner, and extra batteries for all. The idea is that if I have no time to assemble the rest of my gear, this a last resort that would give me an edge over people without any preparation. However, it is something I hope I never have to touch.

HossDelgado: Wow, I guess those with huge BOB’s don't really plan on doing a whole lot of running during a zombie outbreak - if you've ever tried going for a jog with a full Alice pack on your back it's not the easiest thing in the world, and don't forget the hordes of undead chasing you who won't be burdened by days worth of supplies - you're their supplies. And whoever it was that thinks they'll be able to lug around 300+ rounds of ammo is crazy – the objective is to survive, not close with and destroy zombies! Keep it light, keep it down to the bare essentials, and keep it simple - water, IFAC, ammo, small amount of food (3 MRE’s max), spare socks, flashlight with spare batteries a survival tool (Gerber, knife, etc..), a lighter and some 550 cord.
As for a firearm, there's really no reason to be lugging around a .45. It's large and the ammo is large – and weight is an issue here. On top of that, the magazine capacity is almost half that of a 9mm. Reloading is going to be a pain in the arse when you have hundreds of your former friends coming at you. At this point it’s all about shot placement. There are only two places where you are going to successfully disable a zombie – the T-Zone or the pelvic girdle. A 9mm will cause sufficient damage in both regions to drop the zombie. Accuracy is also an important consideration. A .45 isn’t as easy to fire accurately as a 9mm, especially for follow-on shots. For those of you who spend every weekend at the range and are ‘sharpshooters’ consider this – the first time you get in a high stress situation all the blood will move from your extremities to protect vial organs, leaving you with decreased motor functions. You’ll develop tunnel vision and forget everything that you learned. When this happens, you’ll want a round that’s easier to place on target initially and for follow-on shots – that’s the 9mm.
Let’s move on to long-guns. The key here is something that is relatively lightweight, easy to aim, easy to transition from target to target, and easy to fire rapidly. There are lots of great options out there, all with their pros and cons, but I would have to say initially that your best bet is a shotgun – my preference is the Remington 870 pump action. Pump actions are more reliable than semi-automatics and Remington makes the best pump in my opinion – it’s relatively inexpensive and easy to find. Additionally, the shot pattern of a shotgun makes aiming all that easier which, as I said before, will be an issue once the adrenaline kicks in. I would recommend 2 ¾” 00 buck shot, which will allow you to fit more into the gun’s tube than the 3”. Range is an issue with the shotgun, which is one of the cons, but the idea here is survival and evasion so you shouldn’t be firing unless you absolutely have to – when the zombies are almost right on top of you - so it shouldn’t be that much of an issue.
To appease the proponents of the assault rifle-styled fire arms, I would have to recommend any of the variety of M-4 type models that are sold out there. They are light, compact and the civilian versions, when properly maintained, are reliable. Additionally, the gun hardly kicks at all, making follow-on shots easier. The cartridge is very common and easy to find, and it can reach out a lot further than the shotgun if you find the need to shoot longer distances. For optics, I would probably to with the EO-Tech holographic sight which provides a good aiming point with smooth transitioning, all without causing tunnel vision, and works off of AA batteries.
** For any gun, I would strongly discourage the use of three point slings. Reason being, if the zombie decides to grab the gun, which is firmly attached to you, you’re screwed. Not having a sling allows you to let go of the long-gun and transition to your sidearm or get the heck out of dodge. Enough said**
For melee weapons, let me start off by saying that, if you find yourself in that situation, I suggest you start getting used to the idea of eating brains. But, we got to go down fighting and take as many of them with us as possible, so I suggest something simple and easy to wield – an axe or tomahawk. They can be swung by almost anyone with enough force to cause significant head trauma and are designed to cut through tough material (wood). Forget machetes, forget katana blades (unless you’re a samurai then go for it) and forget chainsaws – I don’t know too many people that would want to lug one of those around along with their week worth of foot, water, and enough bullets to take over a small country. There are a large selection of axes and tomahawks designed specifically for combat that can be purchased.
In summary, those who find themselves surviving the initial onslaught of a zombie pandemic probably want to stay a survivor for as long as possible. Survival is about common sense - don’t weigh yourself down; water is the key to not dieing of dehydration; and most important, don’t let a zombie bite you. Thank you and enjoy.

My pistols (I know I’ve said pistols against skin jobs is bad, but all I have is a pair of pistols because AR-15’s are illegal in CA); I’ll be carrying these in my thigh and shoulder holsters (the thigh holster is rigged to the belt with my combat knife sheath with a nylon leg belt; it’s held up using a shoulder holster as suspenders, negating the need for proper suspenders or belt keepers); For my holster, I sewed the nylon holster to a nylon combat knife sheath, with a nylon leg belt; This puts the knife and the pistol not only in reach, but also on the same spot on your belt freeing space for other gear. (I also attached a dual mag pouch to the leg belt, feeing up that little bit more space; However, I carry a multi-tool in on and a large pocket knife in the other, rather than mags- places those where I can easily reach my most critical tools.) Something to consider: In order to increase your load, you could try moving things from your backpack (or sea bag, in my case) to other locations; For example, rather than carrying a gasmask in my pack (where it does very little good anyways), I’m carrying it on my gun belt (over the holster, making it harder for an unfriendly person to access). Balancing you weight around your body (and reducing your shoulder-to-back transfer load) allows the load to be increased up to 25%.

Simplicity is the key. Remember, this is stuff you want to be able to keep on you for a VERY long time. Remember simply that this is all stuff you cannot live without. This isn't Spaceballs, and you are not Princess Vespa. You do not need that industrial hair drier. Think of things that can assist you in many tasks, not just one. Anything you are going to have needs to have at least a dual purpose for it to be required in my opinion.

Body:
Blackhawk Industries makes several good chest rigs, myself I prefer an H-harness myself, as it leaves more options for pouches, configurations, different types of ammo, etc.
-Four SAW pouches with fastex clips to keep them closed. (can hold all sorts of goodies, ie: 6 x 30 round m-4 /Mini-14 mags, 5 x AK-47 mags, 4 x M-14 / FAL mags)
-Extra large Butt Pack. I have one that has a zipper, and two side pouches, and haev lived out of it for three or more days. Inside: Compressed chow. Protein, protein, protein! Your muscles need that stuff so you don't collapse. Keep also things like matches, lighters, maps, compass, GPS, whetstone, magnesium fire starter, cord or rope of some kind, Zip Ties are useful in a LOT of situations. Zip-loc bags are a must to keep things dry.
-Emergency strobe in pouch. Yeah, live people will probably not be responding to it before the batteries die, but it would work well for a distraction.
Bag: Blackhawk 3-Day Assault Pack
-This is where you put the things that either you will not necessarily need every second. Most of your food should be here, since it is a nice consolidated place for it to all be together. Go for the astronaut chow if available. It is freeze dried and compact, not to mention light. Military rations work well too, as they are small and pretty easy to get ahold of. A further bonus is that they do not need to be cooked, and can be compressed down pretty well. Drop the Charms and the M & M's though, as the sugar will do next to nothing for you, and that's room you can use elsewhere.
Spare ammo is a must in here. Keep it already pre-loaded in magazines so that you don't need to worry about loading up right away when your body rig runs out. I suggest at least 4-500 rounds total in here for rifle and pistol. Hydration: Camelback is great for this, as the bladders are a lot more convenient than bottles, and can be compressed and saved for later filling when empty. I suggest at least two 120 ounce bladders. Like they say, "Hydrate or Die"
First Aid is good to go in here too, but the simple fact that if you are bitten by a Zed, you can forget about the band-aids, and swallow your gun.

There are many other tings that can be included, but you all get the idea.

Mercob's Bug Out Bag-
Clothes (not in the bag but sitting right next to it) - Steel capped boots (heat and oil resistant), long socks, skinny leg jeans, camo-cargo pants, breifs, singlet, thin T-Shirt, camo longsleeve shirt, cargo jacket, black T-Shirt (converted into a balaclava) red bandana, and mask (incase raiding a store early).
Bug-Out-Bag (3 compartment backpack) - First small compartment of bag - Straps, rope, spare matches, hooks, fishing line, lighters, belt and small torch. Second Compartment of bag - 2 dozen dust masks, 1 rain poncho, 2 water bottles, large torch, cup and black folder (contains pens, pencils, paper, my checklist, my survival plan, map, bible, eraser, sharpner and sticky tape). Third compartment of bag - Supply bag (contains zippo fluid, zippo flint, zippo lighters, bic lighters and jet lighters, knife sharpener, whetstone, batteries, compass, small torch, small screwdriver set, nails, screw driver, box cutter and 2 pen knives of average strength). Also in this compartment sits 2 medkits (probably level one) and an LED torch.
Weapons ( on the shelf with the other stuff) - A makeshift boken, Survival knife ( in sheath on pants), one 4 bladed knife that detaches into 2 two bladed knives, 1 penknife and one serated knife.

How dumb are some of you people. Your goal in a zombie ridden land is to survive. Chainsaws, loud guns, laptops, cell phones? You dont need any of that stuff. Are you trying to get zombies to attack you so you can die faster? How bout you trade that chainsaw for a baseball bat so u can stay quiet. Your 50 cals and submachine guns for a pistol with a silencer or a cross bow? Get in the game my lord. All those electronics wont help either. Internet and power will go out eventually so ull be stuck with things you cant use. gotta think about these things. All you have to do is stay quiet, alert, and light and you will be fine
