Mercobs' Survival Plan
Firstly, a little about myself just to let you get to know me and if it helps with any of the judging so you know I am NO professional shooter or Survivalist.
I am 16 turning 17.
I live in Australia where it is very hard to obtain a weapon of any type (whether melee or firearm). I have been planning a survival escape route and defence scenario for quite some time.
I am 6'5" tall, thats about 192cm tall.
I weigh 75kg
I am better at sprinting than running due to my long legs, but I can still jog a fair distance.
Last time I did the beep test (shuttle run as its sometimes known) I got 9.5
I do hospitality so I know how to cook a large assortment of things and know how to use alot of stuff around kitchens.
I did two years woodwork after the manditory course and I know a few things about construction.
I eat a hell of a lot... so thats something bad for me :(
Ok now to the actual plan;
My Bug-Out-Bag (BOB) that is already assembled now:
In a small bag that fits into the front part of any backpack I have the following supplies;
Two cans of zippo fluid, Knife sharpener, whetstone, compass, three xenon bulb torches with supply of 2 sets of batteries each, four mini screw drivers, ten lighters (3 zippos, 3 jet lighters, 4 bics), three pen knives of good strength, one four bladed knife that detaches into two, two bladed knives, small roll of duct tape, three packets of matches, zippo flints and small packet 1.75 inch nails.
My backpack has 3 compartments, its a normal school bag but can duct tape the bottom and seems/sides for extra strength.
1st small compartment at the front sits the small bag.
2nd small compartment sits; one rain poncho, one set of welding gloves, about 45ft of rope (decent thickness of course), hammer and large box of 2 inch nails.
3rd compartment sits; One large black T-shirt (converts into balaclava, I am sure most people will know how to do this), Two tins of Pringles (they’re not in there now) and two 1.25L bottles that will hold water.
Soon to be chocolate and candy also in there, aswell a few pieces of fruit if they can fit (the second compartment takes up a lot of room by the way).
Just on my shelf above all of this I have a plastic bag that has;
two sets of briefs, two sets of thick wool socks and two sets of singlets.
Next to this, on another shelf, I have; a pair of steel capped boots (currently in my dad’s wardrobe), a pair of skinny leg jeans with strong belt, a tight fitting black T-shirt, an averagely thick jumper that is pretty tight over my shirt, about two dozen dust masks and my survival knife (hollow hilted but full-tang, which has a small compass in it, about 30ft of fishing wire, half a dozen different sized hooks, half a dozen matches and a small piece of flint). The knife is in a sheath, which can be put onto my belt.
Also sitting in the corner of my room which I will take, if I have access to a bike or car;
Tent. (3 person tent but we've managed to get four people in there. Its also waterproof as most should be and quite strong).
Air mattress. (single person but can fit two, very uncomfortable though )
Sleeping bag. (Thermal, which set my parents back a big of money :), yes my parents not me, and can be converted to a queen size blanket like most).
This roughly weighs around about 20kgs... or 44 pounds. I can jog and run with this on.
Other weapons and tools lying around my house;
italic= I will take, normal= I would consider.
Baseball bat – wooden or metal (these things are so hard to find in Australia ha-ha),
Kitchen knives,
Spades and shovels, Metal or wooden poles, hatchet and small sized sledgehammer.
THINGS I AM PLANNING ON GETTING SOON:
A map of the local area, spanning 100kms in every direction of my house, if possible. One of those things where they tell you the latitude and longitude of where you are…sorry I don’t know the name. Maybe some flares. Ok finally onto my plan, it’s taken a while but now its time. SPACE FOOD STICKS!!! these babies are packed with alot of good stuff :) plus alot of energy in them too.
SURVIVAL PLAN:
- At the first sign of a certain trouble relating to our cause, get home and gather supplies warning everybody along the way. I would muzzle my dog and fill my bird’s cage with a very large amount of seed and water, or just release it.
- Make a small defence at my house and try contacting family and friends that are close by.
- Once all the people are notified, I would go to my school. It is equipped with large gates (four) that can be locked, it has cooking rooms and D&T rooms for metal and wood material. Taking as many people and my pets with us.
DURING ALL THE NEXT STEPS WE WILL BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR FUELS, RADIOS (ANYTHING OF THIS NATURE), GENERATORS AND BATTERIES.
- When this happens we will try and gain contact with anyone, and everyone possible.
- After defences are set up at the school (spear wall made from D&T rooms that would secure two of the four gates) we would organise to raid a local shopping centre. Aswell as small shops and clothing stores nearby.
- After this is done we would split the people into 3 groups. Group 1 would watch the gates, group 2 would search outside of the school (unless it is too dangerous) and group 3 would sleep. Each taking turns of something in a day.
- Make bombs from the science block, which we can also engineer crude guns from the D&T rooms also if need be, more like olden day muskets and shrapnel guns.
- Once a good solid defence is set up, at the first break of day, we will then take group 2 to raid a gun shop that is nearby. It has a very large assortment of rifles all bolt action and a large assortment of shotguns aswell as pistols (most being the Olympic/sporting type though ).
- After supplies are depleted from local shopping areas, we would then expand our raiding range. When this happens we will also raid a nursery to get fruit, vegetable and herb seeds to plant of the oval and vegetable patches. The people who will be tending to the garden will be anybody with experience from whatever group.
- I have just completed work experience at a sports club, for hospitality in the kitchen area. This would be my next place to go. They have the same amount, if not more, than your average supermarket. They have a very large assortment of alcohols and plenty of knives also. If the school was overrun, this would be my next place to hold off.
- Once majority of stores and shops have been raided in our area, we will start to rely on growing the food ourselves. By this time we are hoping the threat would have started to die down.THIS IS THE END OF MY SHORT TERM PLAN.

- My LONG TERM PLAN involves all of the above up to point 10. After this point we would take all the supplies we have and everything possible and useful and go to the sports club. Which is 15 minutes away from the school.
- Once all the supplies are unloaded, we will set the vehicles in the garage which is locked by two doors.
- Lock down the building and barracade all the entrances that can be broken into (the main glass doors), with the materials in there. Large metal tables/chairs, wood tables/chairs, pretty much anything that cannot be used.
- Once this is done we will set up small fruit and vegetable patches in the gardens inside. Taken the water is not infected somehow we will stock up on as much as we can with everything that can hold it, before drinking the water it will all have been boiled and cooled down,
- Once the whole area is secured and running well, we will organise the groups to start back into their normal things.
- If and by the time all of the food and water sources have been depleted we will have hopefully made contact with people who can help us and transport us to a safe location. If we have not made contact, when our food and water sources start to run low we will gather everything and travel to the army base which is about 30 minutes from the school, 45 from the sports club.
FROM POINT 1 to 6 I will assume leadership unless someone who is very good does. If im with my family my dad will, if im with all of my friends and their families too, im guessing my dad would still as he is quite big, 6' 1", 105kgs (220pounds) but he's 50 and has great leadership qualities.
AFTER POINT 6 IF/UNTIL WE REACH THE ARMY BASE We will decide on who is fit enough to lead the group (fit being leadership qualities and not physical, though it can include). Then decide on there. But the type of leadership we will be having is; everyone has a say and we decide things together, and if we then have a dispute or something cannot be decided on a majority, they will step in and settle things (being non-biased of course, i.e. a husband picking his wife over someone he doesn't really know).
The type of leader we will be looking for is someone who can make split end decisions, no matter how bad, and follow them through. Their motivational skills, their knowledge of things (whatever comes, or can help) [ this can fall under general knowledge sort of ]. Their ability to solve problems on a variety of levels, their communication skills, their body language, how well they get on with the others, if everybody in the group would listen to them.
My barricade for the gate entrances to the school would be a car on its side (this is the gates width) with barbed wire covering the gaps and steel poles sharpened into spears dug into the ground facing the gateway. A few petrol cans nearby aswell as a large amount of scrap wood around the car, so if a large group of zombies or raiders tried to break through we would cover the car in fuel it and set it on fire. All of these items and stuff can be found in the school, maybe besides the cars which would probably be very close by. My barricade for my house would be chairs and tables in front of the downstairs windows and planks boarding windows up, while upstairs is covered by a bed blocking the main part of the stairs and a couch and chairs in the way. I would have bricks and rocks up there aswell so I can throw them at them if they are on the stairs or below.My barricade for the Sports club would be metal tables and chairs aswell as wooden tables and chairs, and the main entrances blocked off by the mass amount of poker machines that have been emptied. And if the time is there we will have cars blocking the main entrance with barbed wire and crude spears blocking it from the outside.Firearms
The firearms I would like to acquire before or while this is happening would be a .22 bolt action browning rifle of any make, and a .45 semi automatic pistol of any make. If I come across any other firearms along the way though I will be sure to pick them up, because in my area they are quite rare.
Other places to raid and reasons:Sporting goods store: They can have quite good melee weapons (sporting good stores in Australia don’t usually [rarity] sell firearms).
Police station: They can have radios, firearms ( pistols, rifles, shotguns) body armour.
Dick Smith: These places are just electronic stores, eg tvs and such. There will be a large supply of games, dvds, walkie talkies (high powered) and music. This is also just about 200metres from the gunshop im planning on going too.
Liquor store: These can be found in pretty much any suburb or along almost any road close to people. Large supply of alcohol and probably small amount of non perishable food, i.e. corn chips, potato chips, pringles. Also probably chocolates too.
Petrol station: Fuel (would probably be gone by now) large assortment of food and large assortment of drinks. Has tyre pump too.
BTW The defences and stuff for the buildings can be done with in a very short time period, unlike some others who think digging a trench will take a few hours are sorely mistaken... or very high concrete barriers surrounding places. So unlike other people who 'will' be 'turning' aparment blocks into mass command stations and fortifications I will be focused on other important tasks... just take that into account when you see 'Johnny' comandeering a large building or other such of the nature I just stated.
