Also known as the Humvee, the M-998 High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) is the replacement for the M151 Jeep. The HMMWV provides a light tactical vehicle for command and control, special purpose shelter carriers, and special purpose weapons platforms.
They have a 150 HP diesel engine, 3-speed automatic transmission and four wheel drive that is air transportable and droppable from a variety of aircraft. The HMMWV can be equipped with a self-recovery winch capable of up to 6000 pound 1:1 ratio line pull capacity and can support payloads from 2,500 - 4,400 pounds depending on the model. Variants include cargo/troop carrier (with and without winch), TOW missile carrier (basic and supplemental armor configurations, with and without winch), armament carrier (basic and supplemental armor, with and without winch), mini- (2-litter, basic armor) and maxi-(4-litter, basic armor) ambulances, 2-litter soft-top ambulance, shelter carrier (with and without winch), tractor for 105MM light gun, and expanded capacity variant (essentially a pick-up truck).
Experiments to up-armor Humvees to de-facto light tanks have met with mixed results, and as a result the US Army and Marine Corps are typing to bring on-line the MRAP program. However, the HMMWV will remain in service not just for the foreseeable future, but for many decades to come, and may in fact become the first multi-century platform in militry service since the advent of the internal combustion engine (it is certainly the first one guaranteed to achieve this benchmark).

MRAP:
Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles are a family of armored fighting vehicles designed to survive IED attacks and ambushes; The concept is to replace HMMWV type vehicles with a more robust, survivable vehicle when on patrol outside the wire. MRAP vehicles usually have “V” shaped hulls to deflect away any explosive forces originating below the vehicle, thereby protecting the vehicle and its passenger compartment; This design dates to the 1970s in South Africa. The MRAP may not be effective against Explosively Formed Perpetrators (EFP), which use a shaped charge to form a hypervelocity jet of metal, capable of cutting through thick armor. However, the Marines (which is the lead service on the MRAP program) estimate that the use of the MRAP could reduce casualties attacks by as much as 80 percent. As an interim solution, the military is currently installing a variant of the HMMWV’s IED defeating Frag Kit 6 armor.

The MRAP currently comes in two basic varieties; 4 Wheeled and 6 Wheeled. Most are armed with a topside-mounted Medium or Heavy Machinegun in a open topped turret.
Variants include the Buffalo Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), essentially an MRAP with a semi-articulate gripper hand on the end of a fairly long remote controlled boom; In places the vehicle is also built with additional armor to protect the crew. The arm could, in theory, be used as a giant melee weapon, and knock skin jobs away.

M1A1 Abrams:
The M1A1 Abrams tank could be a little hard to find. But if you did then you're the luckiest person alive (or the only person alive)!!! Some tanks might not be so useful, e.g. if the M1A1 Abrams tank has a big-ass cannon which fires a variety of shells, that can kill things much more threatening then zombies. The top mounted .50 machine gun is probably more useful. It might not be so useful whilst going through a city's streets; where as a turret with a dual machine gun would be a lot better. Unlike the Hummer, good amount of durability is to be expected with the M1A1 Abrams tank, save throwing a track or fixing the engine. Fuel, however becomes an even bigger issue, with some of these vehicles getting only one mile to the gallon. Also, consider where you will be able to resupply with ammo before you take this weapon. However, at the very least, in an apocalyptic world, your M1A1 Abrams tank could be traded to someone else for plenty of other useful supplies. Scavenge for sure if you find these for the standard gear is extremely useful, as well as any gas you may find in the sizable gas tank, and make note of the vision enhancement equipment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- British MkI Father/Mother: | |
| Length: | 26’ 5” (8.07m). |
| Width: | 13’ 9” (4.19m). |
| Weight: | 28 tons. |
| Height: | 7’ 4½” (2.23m). |
| Engine: | 6 cylinder 105 hp Daimler. |
| Max Speed: | 3.7mph (5.96kph). |
| Armamanet: | Father: Two 6-pdrs (324 rounds) and 4 Hotchkiss machine guns (6.272 tons ammo). Mother: Four .303 Vickers Machine Guns, two 8MM Hotchkiss Machine Guns (exact amount of munitions unknown). |
| Fuel: | Diesel |
|
|
| Capacity: | 46 gallons. |
| Maximum Trench Crossing (unsupported): | 10’ 0” (32.8 m). |
The Mk. I was the first tank to enter combat, on 15 September 1916 at Flers-Courcelette during the battle of the Somme out of a need to break the domination of trenches and machineguns over the battlefields of the Western Front. The characteristic rhomboid shape of the British heavy tanks of this period was caused by the War Office’s specification, which required a vehicle capable of crossing an 8 foot trench or climbing over a 4 foot 6 inches high barrier. This was achieved by the combination of a high prow and fully visible tracks which meant that there was no overhang to get caught on the ground. However, fuel was delivered to the engine simply by gravity, which could result in the engine cutting out if the tank was at too severe an angle. The Mk. I came in two versions, the female with four .303 Vickers machine guns and one 8MM Hotchkiss machinegun, and the male, with four of the 8MM Hotchkiss gun and two 6 pounder guns. The female design was produced late in the design process as an anti-infantry version.
The crew shares space with the engine. The environment inside was extremely unpleasant; the atmosphere contaminated with poisonous carbon monoxide, fuel and oil vapours from the engine and cordite fumes from the weapons due to inadequate ventilation- Temperatures inside could reach 122 °F (50 °C). Entire crews lost consciousness or became violently sick when again exposed to fresh air.
The crew wore helmets, goggles, and chainmail masks with gas masks to counter the fumes and bullet splash or fragments and rivets knocked off the inside of the hull. The side armour of 8 mm initially made them largely immune to small arms fire, but could be penetrated by the recently developed armour-piercing K bullets. The tanks were also vulnerable to being overrun by infantry (a danger which remains to this day) and Geballte Ladung (“Bunched Charge,” several regular stick grenades bundled together for a much bigger explosion). They were also vulnerable to a direct hit on the roof by an artillery or mortar shell, which could cause the fuel tanks (placed high in the front horns of the track frames) to burst open. The subsequent Mark II, III, IV and V and later tanks all bear a strong resemblance to their “Mother”.
Most critically to the average survivor, the MkI could, at least in theory, be built from rebuilt pre-apocalypse salvage; For the movie Indian Jones And The last Crusade, a tracked excavator was rebuilt into a Mother/Father hybrid (with a turret). Such a vehicle could be built infinitely faster, with greater range and greater flexibility than the original, and on the material-strict, manpower-open budget of a survivor camp.

M2/M3 Bradley:
The M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle is currently used by the U.S. Army in Scouting missions and as an Infantry Carrier. It is armed with an M242 25mm Chain Gun, an M240C 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and a TOW II Missile System as well as defensive smoke screen launchers. The M2 variant is also equipped with several weapon firing points. The Infantry Carrier (M2) can carry an additional 6 passengers in the rear while the Cavalry Model (M3) can only carry 2 but has more room for ammo. The benefits of using this vehicle in a Zombie ridden world are it's heavy armor, relative high speed, cross country abilities, and heavy armament. The major drawbacks are finding ammo, extremely low fuel efficiency, high maintenance requirements, noise, and the fact that you need a trained crew of three in order to both drive and operate the weapons systems.
The M-2 was plagued by early “developmental” issues which were corrected by Air Force Lt. Col. James BURTON (Col BURTON would sacrifice his career in the process- And thus saving hundreds of US Allied soldiers and marines). Since then, it has actually become the benchmark for both and APCs.

Armored Personnel Carriers:
The A.P.C. is probably the best vehicle for a zombie invasion, although rather hard to find, has its advantages, it can carry lots of survivors, and has various armament, from small artillery pieces, to missiles, and most often, large caliber machine guns or anti-air guns. Even without modification, you can mow down an army of zombies with these- Just drive forward and nevermind that noise you heard. Fuel can become an issue and other problems that plague Main Battle Tanks, but would be worth a lot in trade and intimidation if nothing else.

Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (H.E.M.T.T.):
Based on an airport fire truck, the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck or H.E.M.T.T. can go just about anywhere, has three basic versions, (tanker, wrecker, and cargo carrier).
It is ideal for support operations, refueling and re-watering survivor assault vehicles in the field (such as during salvage and recovery operations).
The HEMTT does have a problem; It gets 3 miles to the gallon. That's a big chunk of it's carrying capacity, though not necessarily enough to dissuade use outright.
A second, lesser, issue is maneuverability; The HEMTT should be kept to main, wider, areas only as much as possible.

Heavy Equipment Transporter System (H.E.T.S.) M-1070:
The Heavy Equipment Transporter System M1070 is great for cruising in to zombie territory to gather supplies or to grab the attention of survivors a couple of these and you'll never have to worry about gathering to little supplies anymore. Down side is gas and maintenance.

Desert Patrol Vehicle (D.P.V.):
They have air-cooled, two-liter engine capable of producing 130 horsepower for a payload of 1,500 lbs. With a range of more than 200 miles, the DPV can acheive speeds "in excess" of 60 MPH (1 mile per minute). It is a combat-proven fact that the DPV can fuck everyone they meet should the crew choose to. An typical DPV's armament configuration consist of an M-2 heavy machinegun on an M-36 ringmount, two lighter 7.62MM M-240 medium machineguns, and two AT4 anti-armor weapons. In some cases, the M-240 is replaced with a 40MM Mk 19 grenade launcher.

Montague Paratrooper Folding Bike:
Montague Corporation, the world leader in full-size performance bikes that fold, developed the Paratrooper Mountain Bike in conjunction with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to bridge an important gap between walking infantry and heavy military vehicles. Montague Corporation is the pioneer of the Folding Integrated Technology (FIT), deemed to be one of the next-generation trends in the bicycle industry. DARPA, the Pentagon-based agency, known for its foresight and investment in significant world changing projects (including funding the development of the Internet back in the '70s) recognized the importance of this folding technology for military use and so funded the development of a bicycle that could be used by US Marines, Paratroopers, Military Police and other military divisions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- M-274 Mule:
The U.S. Military M-274 Mule was a 4-wheel drive, internal-combustion gasoline engine powered, truck/tractor type vehicle that could carry up to ½ ton of cargo; It has the distinction of being the ONLY vehicle to date in history that could carry more than it's own weight. Though not specifically conceived as off-road vehciles per se, they were conceived for use near facilities that were often unimproved, neccesitating limited off-road capability. They were introduced in 1956 and used until the 1980s. They remain a useful platform for civilian work in unimproved worksites and construction sites.
The M-274 Mule was introduced in 1956 to supplement both the ¼ ton trucks ("Jeeps") and ¾ ton trucks (Weapons Carrier Series and M-37 series) in airborne and infantry battalions. 11,240 Mules were produced between their introduction and 1970 when production ceased. They were used throughout the Veit Nam Conflict and other U.S. military operations until the 1980s as platforms for various weapons and for carrying men, supplies, and weaponry/ammunition. They offered absolutely no protection to the driver yet that was relatively unimportant as they were mainly used as cargo carriers and medium-range infantry support vehicles rather than close-combat anti-infantry vehicles. They were phased out from military usage in the 1980s with the introduction of the HMMWV series vehicles. The HMMWV was however unable to fulfill the role of the Mule so the M-Gator, a military variant of the popular John Deere Gator vehicle, was introduced.
The M-274 Mules could be be outfitted to carry most man-portable, crew-served (two-man) conventional weapon that could be mounted on a truck. They were most commonly outfitted with Medium to Heavy Machine Guns. However in this capacity they typically used to transport, and not as the combat vehicle itself (there are limited examples of exceptions to this standard).
Efficient, simple, rugged, and extremely dependable, this is a very good choice to add to your arsenal if you are so blessed; However, this is not and should not be considered a “combat platform” if you want to live; It is a SUPPORT platform, and should be used as such.

V-100 Commando:
This nice piece of military hardware is a good choice during Z-Day. With an average operational range of 401 miles (643 km ), a average speed of 55 mp/h (88 km/h) and numerous fire-ports all over the vehicle, you can stay inside while wasting and keeping Zack on the outside. Also there are some of these also attainable for a normal civilian use before (in fact, several thousand worldwide are in use by law enforcement for riot control and SWAT duties).

M-38 Jeep:
Equipped with a 4-cyl, 134cu.in/2199cc, 60 hp, air-cooled engine, M-38 Jeep became the iconic vehicle of the US Militry in WWII, due to it's versatility and ubiquitousness; They were literally everywhere. Not coincidentally, there was a character in the Popeye comic strip named “Jeep”, would disappear and reappear at will (though which was named for which is a matter of debate).
Rugged, dependable, and good in any terrain, this is an excellent choice for the on-the-go kinda guy. Street legal and fast for its size; Load your gear in the back, fill'erup, and you have an all-terrain mobile base (though a small one, at that).
Variants:
GPA 'Seep' (or Seagoing Jeep) was a limited-production variant capable of running through the water at up to 20 knots.

M-35 2½ Ton 6×6 Cargo Truck:
The M-35 family of trucks is a long-lived vehicle initially deployed by the United States Army, and subsequently utilized by many nations around the world. A truck in the 2½ ton weight class, it was one of many vehicles in US military service to have been referred to as the "deuce and a half." The basic M-35 cargo truck can carry 5,000 pounds across country or 10,000 pounds over roads. Trucks in this weight class are considered medium duty by the military and Department of Transportation. The M-35 series formed the basis for a wide range of specialized vehicles.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D.U.K.W. (Duck):
The DUKW or Duck as it is usually known is a modified version of the US Armed Forces M-35 2½ ton transport truck, specifically designed for amphibious assault in WWII. The DUKW has a water-tight hull and propellers. It is a very well armored vehicle, reinforced with 4 inches of steel. The tires are also extra strong as to avoid damage when off-road and in the water, and were outfitted with internal air pumps and releases, allowing the crew to inflate and deflate the tires without having to get out (a lesson learned from the bloody battle of the Aleutian Islands). They can hold up to 20-25 people plus driver, or a ton of supplies.
The odd name tells what, exactly, the vehicle is: D is for Model, U is for Amphibious K for All-wheel Drive, W for Two Powered Rear Axles.
Though no longer used in militry service, the Duck is still a fine vehicle which, if you can get it, you should keep and guard jealously, as they can cross rivers and lakes like they weren't even there, and can even go out to sea, unsupported, up to 20 nautical miles.

A bit tricky to get your hands on and it is old but for all its bad points it probably the best tank a civilian (with a lot of cash) can get your hands on. It's agile (for a tank), small enough to go down streets and if not go round go over most parked cars. If you can get one with its weapons fully operational and with ammo (tricky but not that hard if you know where to look) and you have fuel It could be your ticket to survival. If it can survive world war 2 and come out on top it can survive Z day.

Oh the beauty of 50 tons of zombie stomping glory! Simple an armored civilian bulldozer, this vehicle still has everything you could want- They could even be modified into full-fledged armored vehciles (with sufficient time and resources, of which you will have an infinity of one, and quite possibly of the other as well). However, more practical uses are:
Thinning out the growing zed horde outside your stronghold gates.
- Short range supply runs.
- External barricade construction.
- Defense against hostile survivors (by simply running them over and crushing their precious raiders cars).

If you are lucky enough to find one, there is no zombie on earth that can stop you. The Aardvark was designed as a land mine clearing machine. With sound proof walls, air conditioner with temperature controls, and filtered fresh air intake with booster fan, this bad boy can fit two people. The most impressive thing about this machine and what will no doubt fill you with satisfaction when driving through the hoards of undead, is the flail mounted on the front. The flail drum rotates counter-clockwise up to a speed of 305rpm, destroying EVERYTHING in its path. To date, no operator of the Aardvark has ever sustained any injury by anything other than direct-fire weapons. Built as a land mine clearing machine this baby will no doubt easily withstand the hoards of undead scum. If you find one before Z-Day and are allowed to keep it, just leave it in your backyard or at your fortress. Otherwise, you can build one of your own from a common farm tractor.
