This may sound strange, but bear with me...
say you are scrounging through a cramped area store and and a zombie sneaks up by surprise... wouldn't it be a good idea to use a throwing knife in this situation? it ihas it's uses an utility, weapon, and projectile.... it may not kill the zombie instantly or at all, but it should buy enough time to grab a better weapon if it stuns the zed at all... plus you could use it again in it already lodged in the head again for the down and dirty, or hit the zombie with a blunt object and use it like a nail

I was at CVS and came across this flashlight. Would it be good to be to attach to our weapons or is there something better and cheaper? http://www.amazon.com/Special-Forces-Extreme-Beam-Flashlight/dp/B000BXH39M

Since the dawn of time man has used beasts of burden to carry his loads.
If your going to bug out on foot wouldn't it be nice if you had a pack animal to carry some of the load? I've realized most people shoot down the idea of using horses for transportation simply because they don't know how to ride. I believe anyone could learn to lead a horse, donkey, or mule in no time. A mule would be your best choice simply because they are the alpha load bearing animal. Roman foot soldiers used them to great effect. They even make backpacks for dogs that one of the large breeds could shoulder with no problem. They also (I shit you not) make packs for goats. Latch on to a nanny and kid and you got a portable drink fountain and some meat if things get rough. Its not for everyone I know but its something to think about if your not going to use vehicles. Would you waste more energy packing 50lbs. on your back or leading an animal at the end of a rope with 4 times that amount (in the case of a horse, donkey or mule) on his back that could be used for food if things got rough? Imagine packing 4 times the gear your packing in your BOB now. You could add some more firearms to your list as well. They would be handy for dragging big game back to camp as well as firewood.

i think an important item would be a lockpicking set for a couple reasons like locked doors or containers, or just keeping yourself busy because its an art, i mean making them out of paper clips is easy and when your using them id be carefull because you could get a couple blisters.

Afew different styles but some fair rice diffrences and definate quality differences
Flimsy handles and coke can like thickness to name two issues Most of what i've found in my online browsing are 5 peice kits that fit into one pot and one pan but that seems a bit bulky and i'd much rather have something of a 2 or 3 peice kit thats plenty durable. 1-2 person serving size is all I really need. I've also seen GI two peices of the frying pan and tray from several different countries. I have a cast iron skillet but it seems rather heavy for travel though I may throw it in the car with me if I ever had to evacuate some place. Still im looking for something fairly lightweight but more importainly strong and not bulky. Any ideas?

I submit for consideration that one potentially CRITICAL piece of equipment is service (working) animals.
Consider: Guard/Attack Dogs; Search And Rescue Dogs; Bomb/Drug Dogs; Horses; Mules; Donkeys.

I hate the typical scene in movies where people have to enter a dark area with a small beam of light coming from a small flashlight. Does anyone know of a flashlight that covers a wide angle, like 120° from the source? I'm thinking of something along the lines of mounting 3 head lamps on 1 headband. That way when you enter a room or area, you will be able to see much more area lit and there wouldn't be any dark spaces in your field of vision. A link or name would be wonderful.

Why not? cable ties are great for bonding things together, like flashlights to barrels, hands together, other random crap you may need. If you dont know what im talking about, its those plastic ties the you insert the end through the head to make a loop.

I was suprised nobody put this, and since I'm on dial-up at the moment I can't get the picture to come up. But what about a GPS unit? For your car or or otherwise. Or even a laptop for that matter. You could use the "local survivor map" then.

Srmcguirk sent me this:
"The recieving manager at work told me something interesting today, and I don't know if this would ever some in handy in the event of a breakout. Pallet-wrap, the stuff that looks like shrink wrap that pallets of stuff are wrapped in for shipping so the crap doesn't topple over, is incredibly stong. In fact, it can hold up to a ton of stuff on a pallet and can snap a car's axle if it gets wrapped around it tight enough." She's right, pallet wrap is REALLY strong, but how could it be applied?

"Plus, powerful flashlights can even blind zombies for a short time giving you better opportunities of surviving." Hmm. That doesent work. Remember that zombies are pretty much already blind and rely more on their nose. Also like shooting zombie into chest doesent do much else put "punches" it.

If you want a video on fighting with the shovel: http://www.spetsnaz-gru.com/spetsnaz-entrenching-shovel-1.htm I am a fan of tools that can be used as weapons, use them so they look like a tool, don't baby them like a toy. Obey the letter of the law, be very careful in areas run by tyrants or under the influence of Zombie Rights Cultist. Neither of these groups want you to have weapons to protect yourself from zed.
