Mossberg Int'l 702 PlinksterThis is a featured page

702 plinksterThe Mossberg 702 plinkster is a .22lr semi-automatic rifle. It comes in a variety of configurations from the factory including: several wood grain stocks, several classic form synthetic stocks, factory rimfire scope, and even has a thumbhole stock option. The model I purchased is identical to that pictured left. 3/5 for looks though.

I came across this rifle for $118, I also purchased a box of 525 .22lr rounds for 20. I've shot half the box already and am not disappointed, the rifle is accurate to 50 yards (as far as the area I shoot in now will allow) I'd say it holds an inch and a half at that distance with me behind the trigger. I only bought the rifle for something to play with, I have a 4x15 tasco scope on the way to my house now lol I feel like I can cut cards with this weapon so I'm going to try. I give it a 5/5 for quality and price.

Breakdown is an easy task, two screws out of the stock, 2 pins out of the trigger assy., the the assembly and the bolt pop out with buffer spring and control pin coming with. There is an inconspicuous piece that may give you trouble that sits behind the second pin and acts as a bolt stop. I am giving this weapon a 5/5 on ease of use. Though its not heavily modifiable (yet, and unlike the Ruger 10/22), I would easily recommend this rifle for your child's first semi-auto rifle.

With ammo being probably the most abundant type in the U.S. I'd reccomend this for any one who is looking for a rifle to mainly hunt food with. There is nothing like being able to grab 300rnds at 7lb.s lol. It may be ugly, but I'd venture to say that this little rifle is a viable monster in a survival situation. With a virtually indestructible synthetic stock, proven reliable blow-back operation, ammo availability and cheapness, and overall low price this is a great rifle for the buy.

I give it a 4/5 overall (with most points coming off because there aren't any mags available any where)

I'll load some pics of mine when i get a working camera and have my scope affixed to the weapon.

I'd go a 3.5 on this one because of a couple of things I've noticed on mine. I like the gun I like it a lot for plinking, I've got a 4x32 scope on mine and it is a great little target rifle if you take your time, and I've gotten a number of the 25 round mags salem is talking about, but they look really weird when you put them in Skinny at the top and fat at the bottom. I read too much GQ to look be ok with that, if the world is going to end I'm going to go out looking damn good and the combo just looks goofy. The other thing i"ve noticed is at faster rates of fire the thing tends to jam, it'll half eject the unfired case and try to put a new one in and the bolt'll clamp down on the middle of the unfired cartridge. The design of the rifle makes this hard to clear you've got to like turn it on its side hold the bolt and shake. Other than that It's a damn fine gun for the price, but if the dead were to rise and I had to go with a 22 cal semi auto, i'd either do the walther g 22. or the ruger 10/22. I feel both are more reliable, and neither looks goofy. I'll post a pic later
