Multi-Tools are essential to any EDC kit or Urban
Survival Kit. Most are pretty inexpensive, and are made of great materials. The possibilities are endless when you have a good Multi-tool. In this Page I will go over certain brands of Multi-Tools from Sog to Leatherman and I will compare price and quality. Obviously this is a big topic so it may take a week or so to get all of the information down so please have patience because there may only be a couple of products on here at first. First of my personal favorite the Leatherman brand.
Leatherman:Leatherman is my favorite because not only do they make some of the best quality Multi-tools on the market but they are an Made in America brand. On top of this they are based in Oregon and I am also very biased towards things made in Oregon but don't worry I will give equal attention to other products.
The Leatherman Multi-tools are extremely good quality. The knives are made of high-carbon steel, and they offer full sized pliers on many of their models. They sound bulky but many of the models they produce are smaller than A swiss-army knife champion and they will not fall apart when put to a job. I will
start with a multi-tool from each of the size ranges.
Heavy Duty-Size:
The Leatherman Surge aka The Powerhouse

Price- $95
Tools- 21 + 2 bit count
This Knife is the big boy of Leathermans they offer it in more tacticool colors and it also has feature like locking external blades that can be opened while the tool is closed. It is the heaviest of leathermans at 12.5 ounces but for its tool count that is not bad. This is not the tool however that you would carry in your pocket, it is more of a belt tool or tool you would have in your car. It is also quite pricey for a multi-tool and if you are a minimalist this is probably not the tool for you. For more feature visit this site.

The Leatherman Wave aka The Most Popular Leatherman Ever

I personally own this leatherman and while I do not carry it in my pockets everyday it is a great multi-tool.
Price- $85
Tool count- 17 tools+ 2 bit count
Weight- 8.5 ounces
This Tool weighs significantly less than the surge but it still has an amazing amount of tools for it's size. It also offers the same blade locking mechanism as the surge.

Leatherman Skeletool- 5 ounces of Fury!

Popular Mechanics calls this knife the Multi-tool you will actually use. It is the ultimate minimalist multi-tool and a great EDC tool as well. I would carry this tool If I didn't use the next multi-tool as my EDC.
Price-$65
Tool count- 7 + 2 bit
Leatherman Kick-

Leatherman Kick is the tool I take with me wherever I go. It is light weight and small in size while offering Full-sized pliers. It also slips comfortably into a Maxpedition Mini Pocket Organizer or a pocket. It has almost twice the tools as the Skeletool while weighing only .2 ounces more. It is also thinner than the Swiss army champion.
That is it for Leatherman. They make smaller Multi-tools and many other larger tools but it would take a long time to review them all so here is a link.

Gerber:Gerber offers some great multi-tools with special feature of there own that Leatherman does not have. For example the leatherman may have models with the external knives but Gerber has models that can be opened with one hand. Gerber is also famous for its great quality but they are cheaper tools. Most of these tools are made in China. One thing I like about Gerber is, you guessed it , They are based in Oregon also :). I know you guys are jealous Oregon makes all the best American knives. What I don't like is that they outsourced there knives to china so they don't count as an American company in my book.
The Gerber Legend:

This Multi-tool is considered by some to be the best multi-tool on the market. In fact if it wasn't made in China I would pick one up. Besides this it has some pretty amazing features. First off the pliers are spring loaded so it can be opened with one hand great if the other hand is occupied. It also feature replaceable carbide cutters. This is definitely a tool that can get the job done.
Price: $82
tool count: 10
weight: 9.7 ounces
Gerber Suspension:

The Gerber Suspension is a great multi-tool that is very much like the Leatherman Fuse. The Leatherman Fuse is basically a Kick with scissors built in. This multi-tool is one of the most affordable good quality tools on the market at only $29.
Weight: 8.9 oz
Tools: 12
