Norad, Cheyenne Mountian Colorado Springs
--- view more defensible locations ---
City: Colorado Springs, Colorado
Neighborhood: Cheyenne Mountian
Building or Defensible Location: NORAD Complex
Attributes: This is the ultimate strong hold for Z-day, no if's and's or but's. Nestled a quiant 2,000 feet underground and built into the side of Cheyenne Mountian complete with blast doors and a structure that can withstand up to a 30 mega ton blast within 1 nautical mile. Able to sustain life with out power and/or contact from the outside world for a extended period of time.
Pros: Blast doors when locked down would provide protection from a nuclear blast let alone a zombie attack. It's remote location would also provide protection, depending on the out break size you may go some time with out even seeing a zombie. Generators tapped into natural gas supplies deep within the earth would provide power, and heat even after all of the powerplants have shut down
Cons: Military & Goverment ran. Unless they abandon it or have a change in heart and let people in, you would be hard pressed to even think about getting in. But all that aside it would still be a perfect place to hide out in
In the case of an outbreak, will you be allowing other survivors to join you here? If they are smart enough to either find me or think about the place it'self then they should be smart enough to help me out once i let them in.

I live right near NORAD, and every person I know would make their way to that location in any apocalyptic situation. You'd have to deal with too many survivors, many of them hostile. It's been depicted in too many movies/shows, people might make their way cross country. It'd be easily defensible if you were to find it abandoned, and well supplied, but it'd be impossible to find it abandoned, in my opinion. The military stationed there would most likely not abandon it. If they were infected, there'd be loads of zombies in miles of tunnels that you'd have to clear out.
All in all, I think the cons outweigh the pros of this location. |
