hot/cold packsThe house itself is brick. I would like to get a few guns and a stockpile of ammunition. I would also love to get some MRE's, but haven't been able to yet. Plan # 1- The Home Base: If I'm at home, or can get home... The Neighborhood...Step 1: make sure that the threat is real.
Step 2: Adults begin barricading doors/windows. Children start filling up tub, sinks, all available containers with water.
Step 3: Hand out weapons. Depending on who all is there at the time:
I get my sword, My uncle and aunt can decide on who gets the other one.
The children (5 &9) will get their bats (aluminum) and one or two kitchen knives (hate for them to get caught just cause they're unarmed)
If any of my aunt and uncle's family is over (they aren't really my aunt and uncle, just honorary titles...) then they will get whatever else we have, until we find anything else.
Step 4: after everyone is armed (hopefully with at least two weapons) then we set up scouting parties. At least two adults will go at a time, and at least one will stay at the house with the kids. (the kids are NOT allowed outside at least until the yard is braced and barricaded, and maybe not then.)
Step 5: Before sending the scouting party out (only one out at a time, for now) the adults will brace and barricade the yard, so that nothing can get in without our knowledge.
Step 6: The scouting party heads out, and the one(s) that stay with the kids are on guard duty. No one comes in while scouts are out. Shoot if you must, but warn them against breaking in. (in case other survivors want our stuff.) The scouts search for other survivors, food, and other supplies. Anything useful really.
Step 7: When the scouts get back, everyone must strip and be searched for signs of infection. If any threat is detected, the threat will be shot, in the head, on the spot.
Any outside survivors that want in must agree to the terms. They must agree to fall in with whatever system we have worked out (whether or not I'm in charge). They must also understand that if they endanger any other survivor from the group, they will be shot, just like a zombie...
Also, no animals, exept for food purposes, supplies shouldn't be wasted on pets. Bring Fluffy over, and we might eat him if food gets scarce, be forewarned. I don't care if it's a pet spider, someone will eat him if they get hungry enough. ***
If the scouts don't come back: think of it as less people to feed and don't worry about them. If you go out trying to save them you might get eaten (maybe by them) Its safer to just stay inside. When supplies run low, THEN go out scouting yourself. Whether the kids stay or go is debatable. If other adults are still there, they stay home, if not....you choose depending on the danger level.***
Step 8: Supplies are devided, put in designated area, sorted whatever. The next scouting party can go out two hours after the other has returned, at the earliest, if it's nightime, stay indoors. Why? because humans don't have great night vision. Its easy for stuff to sneak up on us at night. This step mainly involves keeping your group clean of infection. If anyone from the first scouting party shows signs of infection (from zombies, not , say a common cold) Take them outside (away from the kids...) and kill them. Everyone in the group should know that if they get infected they should die. I hate those parts where one jerk won't admit he was bitten, then turns and kills the whole group.I don't want to take NO chances. (Try not to shoot people in the back yard, especially if they're infected. We'll be growing junk back there...
Step 9: Providing that the first scouting group is back, and the second has already left (be it the next day...or whatever.) The remaining adults and the children will go outside.
1. to plant seed that hopefully, the scouts found (or the ones laying around...There might be some somewhere, but I'm not sure.) 2. To let everyone get a bit of sunlight. Sunlight has been shown to improve moods, and overall health. Also the kids will probably be goin nuts inside the house. Adults must be sure that the kids DO NOT leave the barricaded area, and that nothing gets in.
Step 10: Repeat most of steps 6 & 7.
If we end up with a decent amount of supplies (when we don't have room for any more/or whe have what we need for everyone for at least a month) then the scouts can slow scouting. All adults who are able, will then brace the defenses (the barricades on the house, the yard) If we have too many survivors for the hose to hold (over say 21) then we can begin to plan a move. The other suitable locations from plan #2 and plan # 3 will be considered, and judged based on safety and ease of moving everything there. (The closest, safest one wins...)
Plan # 2: The Away from home Plan:
The Town (Altus, Oklahoma)Step 1: same as plan # 1, steps 1-3.
Step 2: if close enough to home, get home. (then follow plan 1) If not, find an abandoned house/building that is easily defendable.
Examples in my town: Slaughter House (but that's close enough to my house that i'd probably be better off going there) A railroad Car (safe and portable) One of the theatres (during the day it's usually pretty empty, and there's at least popcorn, juice, candy, and soda, if nothing else. And there'd be some entertainment. Handpuppets if the electricity is out) Though, one is abandoned, so no food there, but it's next door to a dollar general, which has food and supplies. I'd probably pick the older theatre, it has a whole second floor for sure at least. But because these stores have a connected top floor,I would probably have to either 1. be quick and get everything i need from nearby stores, 2. barricade the nearby/connected buildings and try to keep up defenses on all of them (nearly impossible all by myself) or 3. destroy the ways up to the second floor and use a ladder to get to what I need, when i need it. 3 seems the best option, but i would need to block off the 2nd floor entrance to all the shops i wasn't going to go into, at least the ones i didn't barricade, and i would have to barricade the dollar general, and move all the food, slowly, into the theatre. It would take a while, but if other survivors were with me, it would be quicker.
Step 3: Do the rest of the steps from Plan # 1, modified to fit the situation. (we wouldn't need scouts that bad, and i'm not sure if the theatre has a back yard, but it's in the middle of town, so it wouldn't be smart to be outside a lot.) If you don't need food, send scouts out for weapons, or to look for survivors. All the rules should still apply, especially if I'm in charge, if I'm not, I'll try to convince them and or suck it up, or find somewhere else.
Plan # 3: The Out of Town Plan. (Mainly for Olustee which is south west of Altus, where i live):
This TownStep 1: Same as plan # 1, steps 1-3.
Step 2: Since i would probably be in the Cove, (which happen to be about two blocks worth of little brick houses....) If I was comfortable with the food on hand, I would begin to barricade there. I would call my freinds, D, Greg, Cody, Jesse,Tyler, whoever else in town that have any skills and maybe my not so freind Jentry (he had LOTS of guns, if I could convince him to join us...) My sister, her husband and her daughter as well, because if i'm that close to them, I'm sure i can save them too. Olustee has a population of maybe 617, a lot of which live way out in the country. Not so many zombies there...Once I had gotten whatever survivors i wanted (could handle)...
Step 3: the best buildings to make a base in in Olustee Oklahoma: The Cafe: the only source of food in the town. Not adviseable if you want to avoid the Panic, but it does have two stories, and a strong door. The eagle corner store, and abandoned store that might still have some supplies/food in it. You never know. The best thing about this building is the bars on the windows and the door that make it a bit easier to barricade and defend. The community center-lots of room, small windows, strong doors. The police/fire station. Easily defended, two stories, guns and ammo, not to mention a fire truck, and cop cars, which offer better armor than normal cars. Also, firemen's axe's could be helpful. The post office, possibly the worst place, because it has huge glass windows in the front. The school- not a bad choice, especially if you want a lot of survivors, access to quite a bit of food/possible weapons, and supplies. If its a weekend, then there won't be too many people there, if any at all. The metal barn/graneries- not the best place, but not bad. Metal walls, access to weapons and vehicles (though if there's only tractors, you're screwed. Those things are loud) No food, but plenty of room and easily defendable.
Step 4: follow the rest of the steps from plan # 1, modified to fit the situation. If you don't need food, send scouts out for weapons, or to look for survivors. All the rules should still apply, especially if I'm in charge, if I'm not, I'll try to convince them and or suck it up, or find somewhere else.
This isn't finished, there's too many unknowns in all of these, but as a basic outline, it's not bad. I'll try to add more sometime soon, but suggestions/corrections are always welcome. And if any survivors happen to be in SouthWest Oklahoma if and when any thing like this happens, come on over. As long as you don't mind stripping, everything should be good. (I know my relatives are going to laugh at me for this, but oh well.)
