(This part takes place around the same time and place as the others but this is a city that has been infected for several months. These characters will eventually meet up and you can use them if you want but don't kill them and there aren't any advanced named characters yet).

On Friday 13th June 2008 all hell broke loose. On Friday 13th June 2008 the dead began to rise from their graves. Three months before Lastrot announced that they had created a vaccine for AIDS, not only that but a way to stop it ever occurring. That it did achieve but the penalties far outweighed the success. There was a minor success however. Before the first human ever turned quarantine was installed around the city of Ivener.

1:00 AM November 12th 2008

BOOM!!
“Go, go, go.” I yelled as my men poured from their vans. The yell was probably only heard by the people near me as the screeches were defining. However people charged anyway. The shots rang out in time with the horrid screeches and screams of the dead rising from the city. It was like they were creating a morbid choir.
“That’s like music to my ears Billy. Music to my ears.” I told the man standing next to me. We seamed to get the upper hand quite quickly. “This is bad” My brain remarked “Every time we get the beating of these zeds this quickly we end up losing lots of the men.” Then right on queue a loud screech erupted out of the buildings next to us and hundreds no thousands of the undead zombies streamed out of them and began slaughtering all of my, MY MEN!!! They didn’t stand a chance.
“Into the sewers!” I yelled to the last remaining men. We jumped into the nearest man-hole cover into the dank, damp sewers. When I had to close the man-hole cover because the undead might get in I had a quick head-count. "Great 10 people out of 70" Thought to myself "and these are the ones who are mostly bad shots." There was only Mak, Billy, Franky, Ashley, James, Will, Sheala, Hank, Sherly and I left. The only medic was Mak and Franky was the only one who could repair and hot-wire cars. Our best shot was Will, who could shoot and kill a zed from about 1/2 a mile away without a scope and Ashley was our only explosives expert.

Looking at my tiny group of allies I remembered how I met them. I remember one in particular I remember Mak in particular he was one of the first survivors I teamed up with. I remember meeting him exactly like this:
"I was running to the local school armed with my XM8 rifle, my Lee-Enfield No.1 Mark 4 and my Glock 17. I had enough ammo and supplies to last me about a week. Anyway I managed to get to the school and I barricaded myself in the cafeteria and I found him hiding on the roof. He was a medic in the reserves and he had a large back pack filled with medical supplies. After about 3 days Franky and Ashley found their way to us. Franky, who brought a M4 carbine, immediately began rigging an escape car complete with 2 XM312 fixed machine guns, bullet proof windows and armour platting. On the 4th day we began to run out of food and water. So I armed with the Glock, Ashley with the Lee-Enfield, I kept my XM8 and Franky kept his M4.

(You can use any of my characters but just don't kill them without discussing it with me. I will probably have more memories so that you will know whats going on).

I decide to check how my ammo I have on me. As I count up my XM8 ammo and what I find is shocking. I only have 2 clips (each clip has 30 rounds) left. I discarded my Lee-Enfield after 2 weeks because A) ammo was few and far between and B) I had no ammo left for it. I instead took a Remington 710 with readily available ammo. However I had a surprisingly low amount of rounds left. I had about 150 rounds. I had 5 clips of Glock ammo. I got this back from Mak a while ago when he got his own in a nearby gun store.
“Right, everyone we are truly screwed now so to make a plan that involves the least risk I need to know what supplies and how much you have.” I asked to my bedraggled band of survivors. Mak was the first to speak:
“I have my small sling pack with some plasters, bandages, morphine, antibiotics and some other bits and pieces. I unfortunately only have 10 clips left for that but I have 2 HE grenades left.” This was followed by Franky who stated he had a welding torch with 2 extra gas cylinders and some other random pieces of metal and wood. He also said that his Mossberg 500 has 50 shells left. Will has 20 rounds for his Barrett M98. The rest of them have around 60 rounds for their Springfield M1879s. Ashley had about 3 mines and ½ a kilo of C4.
“Right so everyone get some sleep and we will move out in the morning.” I commanded everyone.
“But Harry it is morning.” Sheala retorted.
“Oh. Then we will move out at noon then.” I decided. With that I found a comfy, dry spot near the wall and fell into a dreamless slumber.

8:00 AM November 12th

I don’t know why but my eyes just shot open and without knowing what I instantly knew something was wrong. I looked around but the light coming in through a large hole in the ceiling was blinding me. Then suddenly it clicked. THE HOLE WAS WHERE THE MAN-HOLE COVER WAS!!! I had just enough time to grab my Glock before a terrible shriek rang through the tunnel and 3 zombies charged at me.
POW POW POW
The bullets sped over 6 bodies with bite and scratch marks all over them. By the looks of it they were caught asleep as their weapons are all over the floor, some of them broken. How could I have been so stupid? I should have remembered that some zombies are smart enough to open doors so why couldn't they be smart enough to lift a man-hole cover. All of my friends died because of me. Tears started streaming down my cheeks. The first bullet hit and killed the lead zombie, the second one was just in time to make it past the first zombie and kill the second and the third destroyed the third’s brain. Then to my horror I saw my fallen comrade’s bodies begin to twitch. I ran. I ran as fast as I could through the tunnel and when the sewer forked I took a right and prepared to die. It never even occurred to me to take the extra Glock ammo. I heard the first screech. It was soon followed by many others and within seconds 6 zombies had turned the corner and were heading straight for me.

I killed the first zombie. It fell quicker than any of my tears.

I hit the next in the chest. The blood splattered everywhere. It kept running. The water coming out of my eyes must of put me off target.

I downed the second and then the third. Only one thought was racing through my mind: “Well if I’m gonna die I’m gonna take as many of these things as I can with me”.

The fourth goes down in an almighty scream.

I ran out of ammo. I though of something witty to say but I couldn't so all I said was:
"COME AND GET SOME!!!"

8:05 AM November 12th

As the zombies ran ever closer time seemed to slow and my life flashed before my eyes. The flashes slowed down at the start of the outbreak. I had first heard about Lastrot’s cure for AIDS and then three days later all of the test subjects were supposed to be moved into quarantine. I guess some them hid because the next thing I knew there was reports of cannibals eating people and then a quarantine was established around the city. I managed to tell Al about it. Al owns his own airfield and aircraft company. As soon as I told him about what was going on he immediately promised to do his best to keep me supplied. After that the memory stopped.

The zombies were still running. More of them now but I didn’t care. I didn’t feel fear anymore. I didn’t feel anything. I was resigned to my fate. I was resigned to what I would be like if no when I died. And then all of a sudden the moment passed and time sped up. I ran forward grabbed the first zombie’s head and smashed it to pulp against the sewer’s brick walls. “I never liked you anyway Sheala” I screamed at the lifeless corpse at my feet, which I recognised as Sheala. I always hated Sheala. She was a control freak. It was always I want this and give me that. It was so annoying. In a way I’m glad she is dead. I met her in a nearby garage. She had no skills what-so-ever. She was Franky’s good-for-nothing apprentice.

8:08AM
The next zombie was upon me after that. I punched it on the head as hard as I could but it didn’t do anything. I grabbed my trusty Trench Knife and stabbed straight through one of the monster’s eyes. A mini fountain of blood erupted out of the socket and the blood got everywhere. However the stab did its job. It killed the zombie. I could hear that there were more than twenty zombies in the tunnel know down here now.

8:13AM
“I am ssssssooooooo screwed” I thought to myself.
“At least you lived a good life with bunny wabits and pink flowers everywhere” My brain retorted sarcastically. I stabbed the next zombie right between the eyes. Then just as I though I could hold of the remaining zombies my knife slipped from my blood drenched hands and I lost it completely in the pitched black tunnel. I began repeatedly punching the last zombie.

8:15 AM

I could hear the moans and screams they weren’t far off. I needed a new weapon. The Trench Knife was lost so I felt along the wall but all I could find was an iron pipe so I pulled as much as I could and just managed to get a good sized section off. I felt in my pockets for a match or my mini torch. I found my torch, a piece of rope and a candy bar. I turned my torch on, found my Trench Knife and tide it on to my iron pipe with my rope to make a spear. I put down my torch and prepared for round 2. I thought I could here an imaginary bell ring somewhere in the distance.

8:17AM
I saw the first zombie at the same time it saw me. It let out an Earth shattering scream and it charged. The scream soon reverberated up the tunnel as dozens of zombies heard the call to arms. I positioned my spear so that it was at head height so that the zombie’s head would skewer itself if it kept running. Like the stupid thing it is it kept running. I didn’t have to do anything it killed itself. About 1 minute later I saw more zombies. Literally hundreds of them in the tunnel.
“Time to die you monsters!!!” I screamed before I charged. I stabbed the first one just above the left eye. It went down I then stabbed the next on in the right eye. I smashed the back of my spear type weapon into the forehead of the next zombie. I beheaded the next one. It looked hopeless. It was hopeless. However I didn’t give up. No matter how bad the situation, no matter how hopeless it looks, there is always hope. That was my motto and I will only commit suicide at the very last second.

8:20 AM November 2008

I’ve been fighting zombies non-stop for the last three minutes!!! They just keep coming. There must be about 150 down here now, I’m glad I chose a place where the zombies can only come 1 by 1. I slice the top half of a zombie’s head off and bash the one behind it with the back of my make-shift spear.
“IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!!!” I yell at them. In response to this they all try to jam in through the gap and get stuck. It seems they respond to the human voice, or hearing anything other than their unearthly shrieks. I just start to randomly stab at head height and kill lots of them. Big mistake, I just made room for more to come through.

8:30 AM
The zombies have pushed me back into a wider section of the sewer.
CRACK!!!
It’s now pitched black because I just stood on my torch. This is it I’m going to die. I prepare to stab myself in the head so I don’t become one of the zombies. I stab one zombie with my spear and bash another with the back killing both.

8:33 AM
I’ve been pushed back again and I’m beginning to loose all hope. I decapitate another zombie. That must be my 50th one now. I am now almost backed up against a wall. I can feel it when I hold my spear out in front. I manage to knock back the horde of zombies so that I can have the room to take my own life. To think just 30 minutes before I was running down the tunnel to get to a good position to put my (ex) allies to rest.
BOOM!!!
I was knocked back into the wall and got blinded by a blinding light. The zombies close to the light get strewn across the floor in bits and pieces. I was covered in blood and guts but I didn’t care I was just happy not to be zombified. There were no groans and screams after that. I could see flashes all along the tunnel but the weird thing was I couldn’t hear them. It was like watching an old silent movie except in colour. I think I was made deaf by the explosion!

8:35 AM
The flashes continue. How many explosives were there? I can hear a bit now but it’s still a just. I see 3 figures walking towards me. I don’t recognise them at first but then I see that they are Mak, Will and Sherly! Mak’s mouth moves but I can’t hear what he says. I think I say that I can’t hear him, but I’ll never know. I think their trying to say
"Do you think you can get rid of us that easily?"

The door behind me opens. Michael, Kelly, Ted, Heather and Anderson walk out.

Frank and Kelly are on the other side of the roof, talking to each other.

My rifle is still with Anderson. he starts to hand it to me, i flash him my new friend and his jaw drops.

"Where did you get that?"

"It's a long story, you want to hear it all?"

"yes." Heather and Kelly are around me now, Ted is heading towards Frank and Shelly.

"Alright then." I'm always for the dramatics.

"This man over here ran out from the library in a heat of passion for his little girl over there. I followed, as i assumed you and ted could hold until i got the man back into his senses. that was not nearly as easy as it sounds." Frank glares over at me, then back to discussing with Ted and Shelly.

"So, we run out, there are screams and gunshots, and we see this little lass over here behind a very official looking man with this nice little number." once again, i show off my new prize. My brand new SIR MX8 with a sub-machine gun attachment and laser sight. Most people probably wouldn't pay it much mind. it is a pretty ugly looking weapon, but it has a certain place in my heart, as my father probably would have jumped at the chance to take this thing for a spin.

"This man's name was Alex, Alex Greco. He seemed nice enough, and he had his hands full with maybe twelve of those things closing in. between me, him and Frank, it didn't take long to dispatch 'em. The man said he'd found Shelly in town, beating one with a tire iron. He said it was a friend of hers.

"We sent him out, there are apparently several military checkpoints in the area, and he thought he could make it to one intact, so he set his radio to my frequency and took off. i think you may have heard how that ended. but he left this here with us, and he left it in the right hands, i can assure you."

Kelly looked sceptic. "What's so beautiful up here then?" she asks.

Once again, dramatics. "This..." i wave my arm over the side and everyone stares.

The town is alight. not on fire, but lights are pouring from everywhere. homes, storefronts, alleyways, its as if everything is glowing. those are the military teams.

Everyone seems to be happier. "Does this mean we're safe?" Heather asks.

Before i can reply, Shelly speaks for the first time.

"No, Look."

We all follow her finger to a building where the lights are moving frantically, as if something is agitating them.

Then, gone, the lights are out. some of the others follow suit

"Not good..." Michael says.

"Yeah, definitely not good." i reply. "Maybe we should move back inside before..."

A scream, and then more, come from the outer wall of the school.

"Isn't that where the door barricade is?" Frank asks.

"Not anymore," I say. I hand Kelly my Sig Saur.

"Can you handle this?" I ask.

"I think so..." she replies, and hands me my bag. I wink at her and keep moving towards the door. Michael passes me, purposefully bumping my shoulder as he passes.

Something tells me i did something wrong, but no matter. Last thing i need to be worrying about.

More screams from the outside.

"Lets move," says Frank, "Everyone back to the library."

"Viral strain 57H is highly infectious, non-curable, and consequently 100% deadly." I began shakily "Little was discovered about it during research as this virus is like nothing we've ever seen before. It would appear that the soul purpose of this pathogen is to kill off not just its host but the entire species of said host."
"You've gotta be kidding me!" exclaimed Jacks with a smug air of disbelief "Your talking about a...a I don't know what, this isn't a virus its preposterous no pathogen or antigen or whatever it is you're calling this would willingly destroy its host and definitely not its host species! The goal of a virus is to multiple and spread itself which inadvertently kills the host in cases of a deadly virus but for a viruses actual goal to be to kill the host just does not make any sense."
"Believe me we were just as surprised when we began studying this but it appears to be the truth. The virus is extremely aggressive it attacks the brain and strips the infected subject down to their most basic and violent instincts. All higher functions quickly degrade, turning the infected into ultra violent killers, the virus seems to take control of the body and tries to spread itself by making the infected bite non-infected subjects. The only way to stop the spread is to immediately kill anyone who comes into direct contact with the bodily fluids of the infected. The distinguishing characteristics are; erratic violent behavior, strange moans or screams, and completely white eyes. They cannot talk and as far as we know are in able to operate simple or complex machines and tools."
"You can't possibly believe this!" shouted Jacks.
"You'd do good to keep your mouth shut Carl." snapped Jackson then he returned his attention back to me "What do you need colonel?"
"Full co-operation on all fronts, I want troops deployed to the perimeter and search and rescue patrols sent in immediately. Also, we're gonna need conformation to...eliminate civilian targets." I said slowly.
All the men immediately fell silent, finally Jackson said "This is gonna be a media fucking nightmare, you have the go ahead get it done."
Sterling spoke up "I'll put the order through but the men aren't gonna do well shooting civies on our turf."
"We'll need the C.D.C. to conduct further research and decontamination procedures. And we'll need the Governor to control press releases." I said.
"Get it done!" barked Jackson. All the men rose from their seats and the feeds cut out, I sat in the dark conference room contemplating the struggle to come. I glanced at the clock 9:53 we would need to move fast if we hoped to contain this abomination.

I opened my eyes and was slightly confused.
"Where am I?" I whispered.
No response.
I felt something soft beneath me. Is this a mattress?
I began to remember waking up once before.
"Where is that man?" I said as I recalled the Jamaican man. "He put something next to... He put something next to me..."
I reached over the edge of the mattress and grabbed something.
Shotgun...
This was pretty much all the proof I needed to have in order to realize that I wasn't in a hostile place. I raised myself off of the mattress and slowly began to walk forward towards a metal door. I reached it and leaned against it as I looked at the room behind me. There were four mattresses in the room, but not a soul except I.
Slowly, I opened the door and looked around. This looks like a hospital...
With the shotgun held in front of me, I stepped out silently. I was tempted to call out and ask if anyone was there, but I feared that I might attract zombies.
I've got to find Ashley and Marie...
I was now standing in the center of a long hallway. There were bends at both ends of it, and several doors between them.
Guess I'll check each room.
The first one was directly in front of me. I turned the latch-knob, but discovered that the room was locked. So was the next room, and the one after that. It seemed like every room was locked except for the one I came out of.
Suppose I'll explore even further.
Fear swelled within me with every step I took towards one end of the hallway. While constantly checking over my shoulder, I would try to remember that I had a sworn duty to protect the Myers family. It was a difficult feeling having no idea where they were.
Or where I was.
Quiet steps seemed too loud to be comfortable. One would click and the other would clack.
Two different shoes... I smiled to myself, realizing that I wasn't the sterotypical body guard.
Pretty soon, I found something new. A large window was on the wall, revealing a barren room on the other side. At second glance, I noticed that it wasn't completely empty.
An object was in the far corner. The harder I strained to see it, the more I came to realize what it was.
Thats a walkie-talkie. How did it get there?
I tried my luck at this door. It opened. As I walked closer to the small communication device, I heard a quick static chzccch then the voice of a young boy.
"Mike? Mike? Hello? Are you there?"
After pausing for a few moments, the voice came back.
"Mike?"
Picking up the device, I pushed the 'outgoing call' button. "Hello?"
"Are you OK, Mike?"
I guess I didn't say enough for him to establish that I wasn't Mike.
"This isn't Mike. I'm Keith. I just found this walkie."
He didn't speak for a while, so I had to talk again. "Are you there?"
"Where's Mike?"
"I don't know. I don't even know where I am."
A thought ran across my mind. Cheap walkie-talkies have limited range. This kid is close to where I am!
"Are you in a building that looks like a hospital?" I asked.
"I don't know... I'm in a room and the door is locked. There are no windows."
I pondered that for a moment. This all started to seem like a set-up. I had a bad feeling about it.
"How did you get there?"
"I was in the police station and- I don't remember what happened. I woke up in here."
"I think you might be in the same building I'm in."
He stopped speaking again.
Alright Keith... Time to use your smarts...
I began to speak once more. "Is there a slot under the door there?"
"Uh...Yeah..."
"I need you to stick something down under there. If I get to that door, I'll be able to see it and try to get you out."
"Oh...OK..."
"I'm gonna turn this off now, since I don't want to be heard." I said just before pushing the tiny orange power button.
I walked more and more. None of the doors would open when I came to them. Every one of them was locked.
Further and further I went, looking for any signs of Ashley, Marie, the Jamaican, Zombies, and the kid. Nothing came up for a while.

Until finally...

After walking down a small staircase, I saw a peanut-bag wrapper sticking out from under a door.
The odd thing was that a key card was conveniently placed on the floor in front of it.
That's wierd... Something is definately going on here.
I picked up the card and slid it into the slot on the handle. The infamous Beep occured, and a little green light appeared. I pulled the handle of the door and slowly opened it.
I will not be tricked... Something strange is afoot, and I won't fall to clever looters or phycopathic killers.
With shotgun ahead, I stepped inside.
A kid sat on a matress. He was a skinny little guy. He looked up and his eyes got wide at the sight of the gun.
"I'm not here to hurt you."
Nobody said anything for a few seconds. I was really getting tired of that.
"I'll help you find Mike, but you have to help me find some people too, alright?"
His eyes were still wide and he said nothing. It almost seemed like he wasn't looking at me at all...
As if he was looking behind me...
I turned around quickly.
"Boo!"
Falling backwards, I dropped the gun and hastily tried to pick it back up, giving the man ample time to attack me if he wanted to.
He didn't.
I aimed the weapon at him and he just smiled atop that long gotee.
"Sorry mon' I din' mean ta sca' ya." It didn't seem sincere with that grin.
"Wh-Who are you?"
"Dat seem to be da firs' words I be hearin' lately." He said as he leaned one shoulder on the door framing.
"But I migh' tell ya, if joo' tell me who joo two be."
It took me a moment to process his thick accent.
"Keith." I said.
"Leon." I heard the kid say.
"Did you...You brought me here, didn't you?" I inquired.
"Aye mon."
"What about him?" I pointed to Leon. "Did you bring him too?"
He nodded.
"Why?" Leon asked.
"Imma e'splain all o' dat later jah? Righ' now joo' wanna be seein' da womens and da chubby one?"
Chubby one? I thought to myself.
"Mikes here too?" Leon asked hastily.
"Joo' two can follow me." He said, never ceasing that big white grin. "Come jah?"
He began to walk out of the door. Leon was following him before I could even stand.
Soon, I caught up. Leon was asking questions.
"Where are we?"
"I be tellin' joo' later mon."
"Why later?"
"Why now?"
Something about this man seemed so chaotic... But something seemed highly admirable as well.
"I see 'joo fin' da wooki-tooki, Keit?
"Yeah... You placed it there? You knew I would find it?"
He laughed to himself. "No, I did'n know whedda joo' would or no."
"I told you my name... What's yours?"
"Joo' can call me Mr. Friend."
I didn't want to laugh out loud... He seemed unstable.
"Is that really your name?"
"No. But Joo' need'n be remin'ed now dat I be joor' frien'."
"There are more traditional ways but... How do I know you really are?"
He stopped abruptly, causing Leon and I to slightly stumble.
He then turned around with that same big smile.
"Joo' don'."
For such a character, he was very intimidating. But something about him made me feel like he was worth trusting. It was unexplainable.
We got to the end of a new hallway, in front of a new door, and Mr. Friend held his hand out towards me. "May I have da key please?"
I pulled the key card out of my pocket and handed it to him.
"Tanks" He said.
I quickly caught on. "Your welcome."
He placed the key card in his pocket then pulled a different one out of his other pocket.
I just looked as I realized that I had been fooled. He knew that I wouldn't have given it to him otherwise. I guess now he's got them all.
He unlocked the door and the three of us stepped inside. Asleep on a matress was a chubby kid. Leon began to rush over to him, but Mr. Friend's black hand stopped him at his chest. "Da Chubby one need res' mon. He spen' all o' his ene'gy to help me carry joo' here."
Leon looked at Mike for a moment.
"Joo' can stay here an' wait fo' him to wake, jah?"
"Yeah. I will. Thanks."
The smile got bigger. " 'Joor welcome mon'."
He then led me out of the room again and shut the door behind him. We continued to walk.
"You seem to know your way around these halls. Have you been here for a while?"
"I be familiar, jah'."
"So you saved me from the crash huh?"
He nodded as we walked. His eyes were fixed ahead of him.
"So the others are OK?"
"Jah mon'. Dey'll live."
"Wow... That's amazing. I mean the crash... Theres not much chance of all three surviving such a thing... I mean it wouldn't seem like it..."
We slowed down as we approached another door. I was at a loss for words due to my awe of the luck we had. Mr. Friend unlocked the entrance and we stepped inside. Two matresses were on the floor again.
Where did he get all these beds?
Sure enough, Ashley was on one, and Marie was on the other. Marie was sitting up and awake, while Ashley seemed to be fast asleep.
Marie looked up at me and smiled. She had a large cut stretching from one ear to her forehead, and her arm was in a makeshift sling.
"Oh, Keith! You didn't get hurt bad at all!"
My headache had mostly dissipated and now that she mentioned it, my back started to groan again, but I was in a better state than her.
"Yeah. You did though, I see."
"It's nothing. Elijah helped me with it." She nodded at Mr. Friend, while barely stroking her hurt arm.
I looked at him. "Elijah huh?"
"Joo' can call me Eli." He said with that smile.
My eyes then wandered back to Ashley. "Is she gonna be alright?"
"Jah mon. She jus' need restin."
She seemed to have more bruises and scratches than me as well.
I walked to the matress and knelt down next to her. "Rest up, girl." As I said this, a metal box caught my eye.
Laying the shotgun upon the ground, I reached over happily and grabbed my camera case.
"I told Elijah about it... And how much you seemed to like it. He went back and got it out of the goodness of his blessed heart." Said Marie.
I opened the case to make sure everything was still intact. "Eli, I think I love you." I said jokingly.
"Den' joo will help me wid' someting?"
I looked up towards him. I really wanted to stay and make sure that the Myers were safe like I had promised. "But the girls..."
"I need joo' to trus' me, mon'. I won' be lettin' any harm come to 'dem."
Somehow, I believed him.
"Alright." I said, then looked to Marie. "I'm leaving the shotgun with you."
She nodded. She seemed quite pleased with her current situation.
"Tell Ashley I said 'Good morning' when she wakes up." I said as I smiled. She smiled back and I left with Eli.
He closed the door and motioned for me to follow.
"What are we doing?" I asked.
"Mr. Keit, wit'in dis town be a safe place."
"Yeah, I think we're in it."
His smile seemed to have faded. It was almost unnerving.
"It won' be fo' too lon'."
"What do you mean?"
Before I knew it we had entered a room which had it's door left open. To my suprise, the room looked like a complex office with files and computers and televisions.
Eli lead me straight to one of the televisions and turned it on, also slightly increasing the volume.
The local news station was on the emergency test screen, but he flipped to a national channel.
To my shock, the outbreaks had stretched far past this little community. It had spread to several states as well.
I couldn't say anything. I'm sure my jaw was dropped.
"This can't be happening..."
"Jah' mon. It be happenin'."
"Why hasn't the military arrived yet?"
"Dey will. An' Dats why we gotta be gettin' to da safe place."
"...What do you mean?"
He didn't look nearly as happy as usual. "Dey gonna be tol' to kill eve'yone. Whedda dead or Livin'."
I had suspected such but was more content not to think about it.
"So we want to find the safe place to hide from zombies... And the military..."
"Aye mon'."
"OK... Where is this place?"
With the most stern eyes, Eli looked at me and made a chill run down my spine. Then, his smile slowly returned and stretched across his black skin.
"We gonna make one."

"Isn’t that where the door barricade is?"
"Not anymore,"

Can you handle this?"

"I think so..."

I pass by Calvin and intentionally bump his shoulder.
"What’s wrong with you?..." my brain asks "...He winked at Kelly, at least it wasn’t Heather"
"That’s not it..." I reply in my mind "...I just felt this weird feeling like he controlled my life or something."
"What are you talking about?" my brain remarks
"In the lib-" I broke off. Frank ordered all of us to head back in the library.
"Frank you can’t be serious..." I retort "...We just came from there. Why should we go back?"
"No time Michael..." Mr Anderson replies "...trust him."
We were 4 classrooms away from the library when Frank stopped us and pointed to the corner wall near the library where the stairs were. From what I observed and heard there was the sound of feet shuffling- a lot of them, ascending the stairs and I caught a glimpse of a laser dot near the lockers.

"Dad what do we do?" Shelly asked
Frank seemed to pause before opening a classroom door.
"Everyone get in here" he whispered.
The girls were the first to enter, followed by Ted, Mr Anderson, Me, Calvin and then Frank. He quietly shut the door. From the look of the computers around here. This was obviously the IT classroom. Ted and Shelly rested on the wall while Heather checked outside the window. She looked at us and shook her head. That must mean theres no military on the ground floor of this side of the school.
"Okay do we have a plan?" asked Kelly quietly
"Were on the second floor aren’t we?..." Calvin remarked "...we might be able to jump down from here and find a safer place. I’m not taking on Military personnel."
"They might be trying to look for survivors" said Ted
"Ted man, what are the chances of that? You saw them in that other place. I think there here for something else" I replied.
Heather checked outside again
"There doesn’t seem to be anyone on this side of the school yet..." she said "...and I can see a pipe that leads down there, right.....here".
Heather pointed to the wall not very far from the window she was looking through.
"Okay well then..." Frank paused "...I think we should risk it and go down there and head for some shelter."
A loud sound of wood being broken could be heard through the classroom door. Followed by more sounds of wood breaking.
"Hurry, they must be checking each classroom" Frank loudly whispered.
We headed for the window while Calvin and Mr Anderson stood with their weapons facing the door.

Heather opened the window as quietly as she could. She climbed out. Her head disappeared and then reappeared again.
"Its less then arms reach, about 20 inches. so don’t worry about falling" she explained to everyone.
As I stuck my head out the window I could see her already sliding down only halting when those bolt binders got in the way. Another sound of wood splintering came through the door. This time a little bit closer and louder.
"Okay Michael your turn, I’ll hold that." said Frank, motioning to the shotgun.
I placed one of my legs outside hoping that there was a ledge or something for me to use but there wasn’t one. I looked towards the pipe and reached for it. It was cold but felt sturdy enough. I pulled out my other leg and immediately had to tense my arms as the weight from my body took me by surprise. I grunted and steadied myself. I slid down the pipe occasionally stopping when those bolt binders got in the way and once I reached the ground floor, Heather happily hugged me. Frank called to me and dropped the shotgun down, I caught it. Then Shelly descended down.
"Are you alright Shelly?" I asked her when she had reached the bottom.
"Yeah I’m fine..." she replied "...that was tough"

Calvin climbed down followed by Kelly and Mr Anderson. As Frank climbed down the pipe another sound of a door breaking was heard followed by rapid machine gun fire. The glass above us shattered and Teds body plummeted down and landed with a thud.
My eyes immediately widened, from the corners of my eye I saw Kelly and Heather cover their mouths. Calvin raised his gun to the windows and Mr Anderson was telling us to back away from the window. Frank rushed down the pipe and drew his weapon too.
"What the fuck is wrong with the military!!!..." I thought angrily "...those mother fuckers I’m gonna kill them." I felt Heather embracing me.
"We have to move!..." Frank exclaimed "...we need to head for a more quieter area."

"Theres civilians on the ground floor Bravo 2, west of your location." came a voice from the IT classroom.

Calvin took a shot at the figure in the window but it had already retreated back.
"Shit we have to move!" Calvin shouted
"Lets go to the vocational building" Kelly said still staring horrified at Ted’s lifeless body.
"Theres already the chance that they’ve been there already" replied Frank while watching the streets.
"Yeah and we can’t draw attention to ourselves from now on" Heather said.
"We can head for the farms in the outskirts of town but it takes an hour to get there by foot" said Mr. Anderson.
"That’s too far..." exclaimed Frank "...we should head for-"
"RUN!!" I loudly whispered.

I saw from the east side, bulky figures slowly walking towards us. They were still however far enough that they may not have seen us yet.
"Okay lets get to Gunther’s Underground bar..." Frank spoke quickly. "...I think its only a 5 minutes run from here. Does everyone know where it is?"
We all nodded in agreement. He must of suspected we’ve been there illegally before.
I wondered about it, considering that he was a cop.
"Stick together, and let's go!" he continued.

We began to run. I held Heather’s hand, Kelly ran near Calvin while Frank, Shelly and Mr Anderson led us but before we even got far enough from the school I hear a gunshot......followed by a hot excruciating pain in my abdomen. Heather looks at me with horror. I gazed down and see the blood. I grasp my abdomen and collapse to the floor, Heather catches me and the others are signalling to us. They’re already a fair distance away from us.
"Oh my God Michael..." Heather cries "...come on we have to get going!"
"No Leave me..." I gasp in pain "...please go Heather, I don’t want you to die"
"No Michael come on please...I can help you" she pleads
"Just go..." I say pushing her away "...Just go I promise you, I’ll be okay, just don’t die and stop crying, now go."
Calvin has come back for us and sees my injury. I nod at him and he nods back. He drags Heather away.
"Well this is it...." my brain says "...what do we do now?"
"We buy them some time I guess" I say out loud.
I try to stand but the pains to much and I collapse back onto the ground.
"Okay then..." I say "...looks like I can’t do that."
I look back at the school and notice that 3 figures are heading in my direction.
I hear a bloodcurdling shriek somewhere nearby.
"Either way..." I think to myself "I’m gonna die."
I look at my long sleeve shirt and see that it’s entirely covered in blood. My vision has already started to blur all I can make out on my watch is the big hand is on the 3. The figures are already a few meters near me and I finally lie down with my head on the cold pavement.

"Please God...
Let it be quick"

"Wow, Fredrick you took pity on this guy...look at that! Right in the intestines"

"He's unconscious.......lets patch him up. Then take him to the commander, this kid can tell us where the others went. Fredrick take him"

"Yes ma'am"

"Stick together, and let's go!" I told the others.
I could only see Steve and Shelly keeping the pace with me, but I assume the others listened.
POW!
"Augh!"
I didn't glance back to see who it was. There wasn't time. Steve is trying to signal back towards somebody, however.
"Calvin! Wait!" I heard Steve call out.
By Steve's grunts, I assumed Calvin didn't listen to him.
We ran a little ways further and our footsteps could probably of been heard from quite a distance. This and everyone panting drew the attention of those cannibals.
The shrieks came again. I couldn't tell which direction they came from, but they were too close for any comfort.
We didn't stop. We continued to run towards Gunther's Underground bar. I just hoped there would be a way to get inside when we reached it.
Just as the thought hit me, so did something else.
"Ummph!" i grunted as I fell to the ground.
"Dad!" I heard.
That probably only lured more.
I could hear a multitude of voices now, but I was in so much pain that it was difficult to tell who was saying what.

"Freeze!"
"Are you crazy? You shot him!"
"I said don't move!"
"He's a cop!"
"Hey, both of you-"
"I've got to help him."
"Stop! Stop! Don't waste our med-"
"You might have killed him!"
POW!
"I said FRE- ummph-"
"Shriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiek!"
"DEAN, STOP!"

The conversation all seemed to last for mere seconds.
The new hole in my left shoulder was excruciatingly painful. Somebody was tending to me already, though. I looked up and I saw the figure of a woman with hair hair pulled back. Everything was quiet as if by a dream. Moving my head, I could see red and a lot of it. The woman was talking to someone behind her, but I couldn't tell who it was. Soon, everything seemed to unblur and my senses returned to me.
The noise returned and I could hear and see shots being fired in several directions. Many of the people were unrecognizable altogether. Further inspection of the scene revealed that Steve was gone. I didn't see him anywhere.
"Keep pressure on it! No, press down harder! Stop the blood!" The woman assisting me was yelling this towards someone else.
I looked past that to see who she was yelling at, but the only thing that I could see was two men fighting each other in the midst of defending the position. They were throwing punches and rolling around trying to take control of the other.
"Your gonna get us all killed!"
"Hey! Stop fighting!" The woman yelled. She was obviously annoyed and tensed.
I could see Shelly now. "Dad! Dad! You'll be OK! It's Ok, dad."
I couldn't see anyone else of our own group.
"Augh!"
"Kill it!"

"No, please! Wait, don-"
POW
All kinds of chaos seemed to be going on around me. I could only wish to lose conciousness. It was incredibly painful to lay there on the pavement with a burning/stinging feeling spreading from my shoulder to my arm.
My pistol...
I drew it and aimed around, waiting to see one of those things.
"We gotta go!" I heard someone say.
"Help me here." I could hear the person that was fixing my arm say as she motioned for me.
I was raised off of the ground and being carried.
"What about this one?"
"There's no time!"
POW! POW!
I could barely make out the rest of what people were saying due to the increased noise of feet on pavement.
"...to the...inside...behind..."
POW!
Things seemed to be a litle bit darker. I felt like I wasn't being carried very securely, but I couldn't complain. The pain increased with every jolt in every step, but at lease I was being carried away alive.
I heard what seemed to be a rolling garage door. Voices began to echo. I couldn't see anything but I could tell by the sound that we were in a small place.
"Quiet! Everyone, Quiet! Quiet!"
People started to pay attention.
Shrieking could be heard from outside, and it also seemed like whatever room we were in was made out of metal due to the noise of fists pounding it.
"Where are we-?" I asked quietly.
"Shhhh...."
I heeded that. I didn't want to make any trouble with my arm in this state.
It took several silent minutes, but finally the noise stopped. A light came on at the far end of what seemed to be a rectangular-prism shaped room. A man held a flashlight to his face and motioned for everyone to be silent. He then shined it across the room.
We're in the back of a supply semi. I thought to myself.
There was a large amount of people that I didn't recognize at all. Two were the men that were fighting earlier, and one was the woman that tended to my shoulder. Shelly was next to me, and the other girl: Kelly was there as well. Mr. Anderson wasn't however.
In extremely quiet voices, I can hear some of the group at the far end of the supply trailer talk.
"What now?"
"We wait..."
"Those things could be out there forever... We need to get our supplies."
While they spoke, the woman began to speak with me again.
"So, what's your name?" She said while digging through a backpack.
"Frank."
"Well Frank, it looks like you wont be using this arm for a while."
"When you say a while..."
"You'll be able to use it again, but not as efficiently. You'll never regain complete control of it again."
"...Do you need to pull the shell out?"
"No. Luckily for you, it went straight through."
"You a doctor?"
She smiled. "Closest thing to a doctor you'll find in this crowd."
I looked at the 'crowd'. "You're all just survivors?"
"Banded together here and there, yeah."
I looked back at her. She was re-situating her black hair to pin it up more effectively. She had beautifully blemish-free brown skin and light brown eyes.
"I've got to check on someone else now." She said as she picked herself up.
"Wait- What's your name?" Shelly asked.
"Audrey." She whispered for us without turning around.
Shelly then whispered so low that Audrey probably couldn't have heard her. "Thanks, Audrey."
She then looked at me.
"Thanks dad, for coming for me."
For the first time in a while, I shared a heart-felt smile with her.
The moment was broken by the shrieking outside. Those things were running away, and it was easy enough to hear which direction they were going- back the way we came from.
"I hope the others are alright..." Shelly said.
"Maybe they finally got to Gunther's." I tried to reassure both my daughter and myself.
Again, I picked up on the conversation going on at the far end of the suppy trailer.
"...Have enough for OUR group. We don't need a lot of others joining in."
"What? This was started because we were looking for survivors! We can't just leave them."
"The more we have, the more dangerous it becomes. They could be bitten for all we know.
Kelly was hugging her knees while sitting down. I couldn't tell if she was crying or if she was trying to rest.
Audrey was attending to someone who seemed to have a hurt foot. This reminded my of my ankle that I twisted yesterday. All the excitement forced me to mostly ignore it.
"Oh!" I heard.
I could see Audrey's eyes were wide as she backed up from the man that she was tending to.
Everyone looked that way and saw it:
A bite mark was on his leg.
Nobody said a word.
The man held his hands to his forehead and stood up. He detached a fanny-pack that he had been wearing along with a pistol in it's holster. After laying both of them on the ground, he walked to the end of the supply trailer towards the large door. Quietly, he scanned the room and then nodded at (who I assumed was) the leader of the group.
This man nodded back, then the bitten one opened the trailer door and just began walking. After a while, he was completely out of view. One of the other people in the group looked around outside.
"I think we could make it back to our supplies and try our mission again later."
"Not all of us." Said the leader.
"Dean... We can't leave them here..." Audrey began to say.
He looked at her impatiently. "I meant, we should only send a small group first. They should then contact the rest of us. It's more safe, since we have no idea how many of those things are on the way."
Audrey still looked upset with him, but she didn't disagree.
Soon, Dean and three other guys headed out with the intent of calling back on a radio-walkie to update the rest of us on whether it was safe or not.
"Well he's lovely." Said one of the other unfamiliar people sarcastically.
"What mission was he talking about?" I asked Audrey.
She sat down in front of my daughter and I, then began to explain. "We were looking for someone that we suspected might be at the school."
"A member of this group?"
"No, we had never seen him before."
I didn't understand, and my silence echoed the feeling.
"Dean wants to find him for some reason. I don't know if he's familiar with the guy or not, but he doesn't seem to even know his name! He picked up a signal on his radio, spoke with the guy, and decided that it's important to find him."
"How will you know when you've found him if you don't have his name?"
Audrey shrugged her shoulders. "The only thing Dean told us was that he would be carrying a baseball bat."
I recalled Michael and the bat that he was carrying around earlier.
"I met someone at the school that had a bat, but he traded it for a real weapon."
"I doubt it would be the one we're looking for then. Dean says that he absolutedly WILL have a bat with him. That doesn't even make sense to me! Why not just describe yourself? State your name? I don't know. Dean has an odd way of doing things."
"He's the one that shot me, isn't he?"
She frowned and nodded.
"I'd probably have done the same in the situation. You can hardly afford to take the time to find out whether your shooting a person or... creature. ...This has been the strangest night of my life."
After a while, nobody really spoke much unless making small talk. The metal rolling door was closed and the light we had been using was a flaslight.
"I'm turning it off." I heard.
It went off, and pretty soon, I just fell asleep.

9:00 AM November 13th 2008

When I wake up I don’t recognise my surroundings. I’m in a room with grey walls, no posters or images of any kind, four beds, my bag, all three of my guns and a table with a lamp on it. I stand up grab my Remington and my Glock (I’m abandoning the XM8 as ammo is almost impossible to find) I grab my bag and all my ammo check if they need re-loading (which they don’t) and go. I walk down the hallway and open the first door I see. Inside the room is pretty much the same as mine. I close the door and move on. In this one Sherly, Mak and Will are sitting around a radio listening to news reports.
“Some people … claming that the city of Ivener wasn’t bombed flat … the … and that it still stands.”
“Wait are you… conspiracy theory?"
“No… what I heard. Anyways today marks the fourth month since that city was quarantined.” I turn it off.
“Their right it has been four months since we were quarantined. Four months in this rotten, stinkin’, hell-hole.” Will told everyone present.
“Let’s hold a remembrance ceremony for everyone who has died.” Mak suggested through streams of tears.
“Yeah let’s” Sherly agreed.
“I’ll start. Um… we have been fighting these creatures from hell for four months now and nothing has changed except the people we are with. Um... we have all lost our families so when we had no one else we turned to strangers. Some of us chose the right people, some chose the wrong but who am I to judge. I’m just remembering then in this speech. Um… in the last few days we have lost sixty-six friends, no they were more than that, however there is no word in the dictionary to describe how close we were.” Said I. I start crying but keep going, unable to stop the words as they flood out quicker than the tears. “I am sad to see them go. Nay I’m more than sad I’m broken-hearted that they are gone, but I’m also regretful that they died before me. All of you now the oath I swore to them when I became leader. I swore that I would do all I could to protect them. And in a moment of carelessness I let them down. I have failed. But they died fighting. They died fighting for humanity. No they died fighting for the world. For if they hadn’t no one would. So I say every June 13th we remember what happened to them. And we have to tell the world the truth. The truth about how they died. So I pledge that I will not rest, not ever until the world knows about the threat they face from zombies and I create a safe haven that is secure from zombies. That I pledge and I hope you three do too.” I must have stopped crying during that speech because I start crying again but this time more than ever. “I pledge to tell humanity of the impending danger they face from zombies.” The three of them say in turn through oceans of tears. We are silent after that. I think everyone reflected on the friends and family we lost. After about 30 minutes Sherly spoke up and said:
“How are we going to save humanity if we are stuck here?” Asked her.
“We escape.” I answered a grin spreading across my face.

Heather , Steve and I are moving.

We stop behind a corner, wait for a second, move again.

I have my arm around her, and Steve has the front. We're headed to the bar.

Gunther's is a nice place. every once in a while, my dad would come home drunk from it and we would sit around laughing our asses off for no reason. God i really am starting to miss him, now more than ever.

We wait and crouch in front of the bar. Heather is trying to stifle her sobs. Anderson looks at me, jabs his finger into his chest, and makes a swirling motion with his index finger. i nod, and he moves around the corner to the door and pushes it open, he motions for us to follow. The front door leads down a staircase and into the bar, which doubled as a fallout shelter for nukes, although why Bowman would be nuked i never knew. it was probably one of the safest places around now, as long as nobody infected was inside.

The lack of windows made for an odd atmosphere, but it made us able to turn on the lights. i put a dishrag at the bottom of the front door to stop the light from spilling out below it. Heather sits at the bar and immediately starts sobbing.

I've been stuck in this comforting roll once too many times, but ill take it up again. Steve is still clearing the bathrooms. i put my arm around Heather again and rock her back and forth. "Shh, Shh," i whisper, "everything isokay, shh" She still cries, i still help her, and Steve gets back from the bathrooms.

"All clear." he says to me.

I nod and keep whispering to Heather.

"It's all my fault!" she sobs

"No its not, shut up and stow that nonsense away. He knew what he was doing and he was a casualty of his own cause. He was a great guy, don't get me wrong, and he saved us. he saved you."

But in the back of my mind i find myself worrying about the gunshots, about Frank, Shelly and Kelly. Things were turning out for the worst, it seemed.

And Ted...

And then Michael. he had been a strong guy. A take-charge, no bullshit guy but he had compassion and he had obviously been a big role in keeping these people together. I had to continue that now. And with the others, with Kelly gone...

"Stay here, and keep quiet." I say. Im going out there." Oh, look at the macho asshole. i just have to turn this into a movie, don't I?

"What?" Heather asks. her voice is choking, but she stops sobbing.

"Your not leaving." Steve says. "its too dangerous. obviously there are too many things to worry about out there. our own God damned military is out there, blowing the fuck out of anyone who comes near them, So don't you dare leave this girl alone with her teacher to hope that you come back."

"well what do you suppose we do then? we have to get them back."

"I agree, but stop and think for a moment. You plan to run out there with Zombies, hostile survivors and personnel and save one wounded, maybe dead man and two girls? With only one rifle? because if you do plan on doing that, i hope that gun does a lot more than fire bullets."

Always a spring of wisdom, this man. I cool down, let some steam off, and pick up some darts from the board on the wall. for someone with as good aim as me, i suck at darts.

An awkward silence follows for a minute or so, broken only by the thunk of darts against the board.

"Well, w-what do we do?" Heather says. she's regaining some composure now.

"We wait, we rest, and we plan. Does anyone want a peanut?" Anderson asks, grabbing one of the little bowls on the counter.

I finish up this hand and walk back to the bar. I reach down behind it and grab a beer. Anderson makes to stop me, but i shrug and say "I'm scottish. Been drinking for five months now, 18 for a citizen to legally." Anderson walks over and picks himself up one. Heather walks over and grabs another. Mr. anderson disapproves, but lets her continue.

I'm in the process of wolfing down a bag of chips. All that running around had made me far more hungry than i could have thought.

"So Steve," I say, trying to make small talk. "Where are you from, originally?"

"Bowman, born and raised. Went to Harvard, and came back here to teach. I always wanted to teach."

"And you?" I ask Heather.

She doesn't respond. I think i may have reminded her of her brother.

"When did you move to America, Calvin?" Anderson asks.

"About four months ago. My dad died a few weeks later, and I dropped High School."

"I don't think I've seen you there."

"Well, i kept to myself. I was new, and i recently lost my mom and sister as well. I think my dad moved here to escape it all."

"I'm sorry," Steve replies.

Suddenly, a knock at the door. Three, distinct and clear. Not military. I think, or rather, hope.

Anderson nods, and i get my MX8 and point it at the door. I whisper loudly "Who is it?"

No response at first. Then "Open up, we need help. There's a man bleeding and we have a woman. please, open the door.

I open it, and i see three people. Two men, and one woman all right, but they're military, not civilian. I open up just as they raise their rifles. They're fast, but I'm faster. all those head shots work in my favor, and the men are dead, the woman is wounded and on the ground. I move over to her, swift and steaming, and start beating her in the face. Anderson pulls me off, but i push him back and grab her by her collar.

"Who the fuck sent you and why are you after us? we're human you stupid fucks!" another punch.

"We-we were given orders. they said that-that everyone was infected. That some of you could still move and think. But not for long..."

"well, do i look infected? I'm not even bitten."

"Please, my arm, i need help."

No mercy from me. "You killed our friends. Two of them."

"Looks like we're even then." she motioned to the bodies on the floor next to her.

I get off her. Anderson has his arms crossed, the rifle in one hand. Heather is staring at me.

I close the door, and lock it. I move down and drag her out to the middle of the floor. I get some vodka from behind the bar, and wash her wound with it. She screams. I get the dish cloth, and rip a piece of fabric from a table cloth. I fashion a makeshift bandage and pull her to the wall, leaning her up against it. she passes out and falls over. She's not bleeding too hard.

"Why did you hit her?" Heather asks.

"I-I got angry. But she would have killed us. We just returned the favor."

I move over to her companions and scrounge them for ammo. I give Heather a sidearm and a knife, and the same to Steve. I take a look at their dog tags. Lucas MacKenzie and Robert Stoulfer. I take them off and put them in the unconscious woman's hand. I checked hers. Martha Harris. I sigh and move to the bar. I go back up and check outside the door. not a soul i can see on the street, but then, in the corner of my eye, a movement. There's a man with a machete running in the shadows, and he passes from my view. Good luck, I think.

There is still a constant din though. Screams and moans, gunfire and more screams. I close the door, lock it again, and move down towards the bottom of the stairs.

A thought hits me and i check the helmets.

No cams. not even night vision. these guys were working low tech.

I take the extra rounds and fill as many magazines as i can. I hand two of the mags each to Heather and Anderson, and then take the MX8 ammo for myself, putting two on a belt i took from one of the men and the others in my bag.

Heather is still on the barstool, spinning back and forth, drinking. Her gun is on the table. i feel awful for her.

Steve is checking Martha's wounds. I probably shouldn't have hit her that hard.

This is going to be a long wait.

"Oh my God Michael.....come on we have to get going!"

"No Leave me.....please go Heather, I don’t want you to die"

"No Michael come on please...I can help you"

"Just go.....Just go I promise you, I’ll be okay, just don’t die and stop crying, now go."


"To you Michael..." I say silently to myself as I take another shot of Vodka, pushing away the memory of his death "...and to you Carlos and everyone else who died...David, Cheryl, Ted"
I sway back and forth on the stool with the bottle of Vodka pouring another shot into my glass. I prayed that by drinking I can stop myself from crying but touching my face I realize that tears are still running down. The memory of what happened to Carlos still lingers and now the memory of the last moment with Michael is imprinted in my mind.
"Pull yourself together, you heard Michael, Heather..." I tell myself "...stop crying already"
I wipe the tears and get off my stool. My legs are shaking but I regain composure and take the gun.
"Are you sure you should be handling that now, in this state Heather?" Mr Anderson asks
"No your right..." I quietly slur handing him the gun "...I just want to sleep, its been a while since I slept."
"Alright then, you can sleep behind the bar, here take this..." Mr Anderson said as he took off a furry coat off the coat stand "...unfortunately we don’t have pillows or blankets, we’ll just have to make do with these. Okay...I’ll leave the gun on the bar."
"Alright, Good night sir, good night Calvin"
I look at the clock on the wall and it is 1:33am. I slowly stagger behind the bar and fall asleep with the coat acting as the pillow and blanket.

I wake up to silence...and a slight headache. At least I didn’t drink that much. I look around and notice that no one was here but as I approach the stairs I receive a good morning from Calvin before he goes back to peering outside the door. I look at the clock and its 10:33am. I walk towards him but he points back at the bar and I notice that the handgun on it. I take it and turn around to notice the woman from before still lying unconscious.
"She hasn’t woken up..." Calvin calls out to me "...we talk to her when she wakes..."
"...hows the headache by the way?" he asks as I return to the bottom of the stairs.
"Its fine..." I reply "...just a small one."
"He was a good person you know" Calvin starts.
"I know..." I say to Calvin while looking at the various pictures on the wall "...but no use crying anymore about anything. Crying gets you no where in this place, we have to stick together and be strong."
"Damn Straight..." he replies before going back to peering outside "...oh and Steve is sleeping under the pool table over there".
He descends the stairs and points to one of the pool tables and sure enough, I spot Mr Anderson under the table sleeping. Just then the military woman stirs and her eyes widen upon seeing me.
"Heather get Steve in here" said Calvin before marching towards the woman "...its time to start the interrogation!"
I quickly run to Mr Anderson and wake him up.
"Mr Anderson the woman has woken up!" I say
His eyes fully awake now comes forth from under the pool table and rushes towards the bar.
We reach them in time to see Calvin push her against the wall.

No mercy I thought to myself.

We watched the television screen intently. The zombies had been given a scientific name: Hyper-Necro-Sapiens.
The media claimed that it was due to some sort of ultra-super-duper-virus, but that just didn't seem likely to me. "How could a virus do this? That just doesn't seem natural."
"It no be nat'ral mon. Dey ain't no nat'ral ting abo't it."
The media was mostly warnings and suggestions for people to stay in their homes and stock up on food supplies and water. Board the windows, lock the doors and all that kind of stuff.
"So do you think someone created it?"
"Aye mon'." Eli said with a nod.
I tried to ask him earlier what he meant by us 'making a safe place', but he said he would tell me later. He seemed to like that phrase.
My mind wandered. I wasn't interested in the news anymore. It had repeated itself a great number of times and my attention span isn't what it should be.
"We were lucky that you were near the truck when we crashed. There was a whole large group of those- Wait... How did you save us? Did you kill them all?"
He nodded again. His smile this time was slight and his teeth didn't show as usual. His eyes were still glued to the screen and he held both hands in his pockets.
"How?"
"I shot 'em, mon'. 'Ow else am I supposta ki'l dem?"
He then showed me two pistols that he pulled from the small of his back.
"...Where did you get those?"
"Why do yah ask?"
"Just curious."
"I tell you whey' I got dem If joo' tell me about da pit'chas on joor camera."
He said as he looked at me with his grin.
I paused with a little anger. "Why did you look at my pictures?"
"I be answerin' dat one too when joo' tell me."
I couldn't believe this. I had really started to trust this guy and then he reveals how he invaded my personal property. However, I really did want to know why he was interested.
"Her name is Jessica." I said. "I went to school with her."
"She be joor' friend?"
"No... No, not for a long ti- Hey! I told you about the picture...now where did you get those guns?"
His smile got wider.
"Got dem at a gun sto', mon'."
Of course...
"OK, well... Why did you want to know about Jessica?"
He began to walk out of the room after turning off the television. I followed suit while still being a little annoyed. "Hey! You didn't answer!" As he led the way walking, he began to speak.
"I didn' look at joor' pit'chas, mon'."
"...Then how did you know I had pictures of her?" I was confused beyond comprehension.
"I didn'. I neva say'd any such ting. I on'y asked what kin' o' pit'chas joo got on joor' camera."
I can't believe this... He tricked me again...
"Why?"
" 'Cause now I be knowin' what be importan' to yah."
"Ha! No-no-no-no-no... I have no interest in her anymore whatsoever."
"Den why keep da pit'chas?"
"I was-"
"SHRIEEEEEEEK!"
It seemed like Eli had his pistols out and was running before the sound even came. He was gone in nearly a flash, and I was left alone in the hallway with no weapon. I wasn't exactly sure where I was either.
I tried to follow him as fast as I could, but it was like he was half-cheetah.
"Eli!" I called out with my feet going as fast as they could.
That shriek...Didn't sound normal.
I thought to myself while I ran. The hallway began to look familiar again, and I found the room where the Myers were in. I tried to open it, but it was locked.
Knock Knock Knock Knock Knock Knock
"Hey! It's Keith! Let me in!"
Nothing happened.
"Marie!" It's Keith!"
I continued knocking but to no avail. My only option now, would be to find Eli.
Please don't be dead, man...
I felt so incredibly insecure without a weapon, but I wasn't going to stand there where I had just produced a lot of noise, and let one of those things come feast on me.
I slowly looked around each corner, and followed random hallways without any direction, in hopes that I would find my comrade.
The further I went, the more I wondered: How big is this place?
Eventually, I came to a dead-end hallway with a single door. It was open and thus I decided that it would be my best option to try and find Elijah.
I slipped through as quietly as possible, with my heart beating in my head. The room wasn't very large, so I could see that nobody was inside. There were a lot of computer screens scattered abroad, and racks full of glass tubes.
It's like a lab...
The wall across from the door hosted a very large glass window. I stepped closer to it and looked down upon another room. It was completely barren except for what seemed to be a boulder.
Wierd... But I still have to find El- "SHRIEEEEEEK!"
As I turned around, I saw it headed straight for me.
A woman in an orange bio-chemical protection suit. I was tackled to the ground and sure that I was done for, but she couldn't bite me because of her helmet. She tried and tried, but she only salivated all over the inside. The visual image was horrible.
I try with all of my might to push her off of me, but she keeps trying to attack. Finally, I feel the weight lifted as she is kicked away from me and against a wall nearby.
POW!
Elijah saved me...again.
"Well dat be great fun, jah?" He said.
It was almost like killing this thing filled him with glee.
"Yeah. And I've had enough for one lifetime." I said while picking myself up. "How did she get in here? There might be more if she was here..."
"Nah, mon. She be da last one I been tryin' to fin'd."
Things started to piece themselves together in my mind.
"You knew she was here... You know she's the last one... You know your way around these halls... You know the way inside of this place... You have key cards... Elijah..."
He looked at me and his eyes seemed to dim a little bit. As If I wasn't supposed to find this out.
"Did you work here?"
He didn't say anything. He just placed the pistols back on the small of his back, and pulled a key card out of his pocket. He showed me the name on it: His name.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"You didn' need knowin' yet, mon'." His smile was still there, but only barely.
"Where are we? Is this a lab? Elijah was was she in an orange sui-" The Haz-mat truck entered my mind, and the man in orange pants. "Elijah. What is this place?"
My mind was running wild with questions.
"Dis' be a lab mon'."
"Where is it? I mean... We are still in Bowman?"
"Jah, mon. We unda de groun'."
Nothing was making much sense.
"What do you do here? I mean... Why is there a big rock in that room... Why did people need chemical suits...What did you study?"
He was silent for a moment, just standing with his hands in his pockets.
"Mr. Keit... I need you to trus' me." His smile was gone but his eyes were sincere.
I was about to start verbally fighting back, but there was just somethng about him that made me say,
"I do."
"I be revealin' all dat jah wanna kno' soon enough."
I nodded and we both walked out into the hallway. He dropped back a little ways as to shut the door we came out of.
I continued to walk without looking back. Something felt odd about not being able to see Eli walk ahead of me as normal.
The result was odd as well.
I was just about to turn around and look at him when I see his hand on my shoulder, and feel something like a needle pierce my neck.
Wha-? Eli...jah....
As my body falls limp, the last thing I see is a black hand holding a syringe.

"I be sorry Mr. Keit..."

I didn't feel anything for quite a while...

Something is wrong. I can feel it. Usually I can hear the sound of a car engine in the distance, or the yells and laughter of teenagers as they escape from their homes for a short time alone. Not today though. I sometimes regret the fact that I have chosen a life of solitude. My interactions with people are irregular and short, and I sometimes feel very alone. I know that this isolation is necessary, however, if I wish to perfect my art. It is getting late in the morning, judging by the sun, and I decide to go outside and meditate in the beauty of the open field. It is very hard to find a place such as this in this crowded country, but I would never move. I have many fond memories. As I step outside my self-constructed “shack”, I notice a man in the distance. He is limping, and appears wounded. Never one to deny a stranger aid, I shout out to him “Hello, friend! Are you lost, or hurt?” As soon as I say this, the man stops moving and snaps his head in my direction. As I feel his gaze settle on myself, I feel a shiver run down my spine. This is an emotion I have not felt in many years. The creature let’s out a piercing shriek, and breaks into an all-out run. It moves faster than I have ever seen anything travel on foot. As it grows closer to me, I begin to see very disturbing details. The thing is riddled with bullet hole, though none of them bleed. It has a machete lodged up to the hilt in it’s torso, and protrudes out of it’s back. The last thing I notice is it’s eyes. They are as white as a new moon. I put myself in a crouching stance, readying myself for the encounter that was about to come. As the creature came within five feet of myself, it threw itself at me. Rule number one. Never unnecessarily leave your feet. Things started to move in slow motion for me now. I rolled onto my back as the thing goes flying over me, and grab the handle of the machete. I place my foot on the creatures abdomen, and kick off, using it’s own momentum against it. The blade comes out of it’s chest, and the creature goes sailing another five feet into the wall of my home. I am quickly on my feet in a crouching position just as before, this time with the machete in my hand. I look at the weapon, and consider using it to dispatch the beast. I decide against it, however. Rule number two. Never use a weapon you are unfamiliar with. I toss the machete away from myself just as the creature rises. A blow that would have knocked a normal man unconscious, and the creature is not even phased. It let’s out another piercing scream and runs at me again, this time remaining on the ground. As it reaches out to grab me with it’s outstretched arms, I sidestep the creature and wrap my right arm around it’s shoulder. Then, pivoting on my right foot, I bring myself behind the beast and wrap my left arm around it’s neck. The creature thrashes about and try’s to grab hold of me, but my grip stay’s strong. As I consider what method I should take to dispatch the creature, I consider whether or not I should show the mercy I would show to another human. I decide against it, however, because this beast is human only in shape. I make my decision.
“I believe it is time to end your existence”. I bring up my left knee until it is in the middle of the things back, and push it violently forward. I am rewarded with the sound of the creatures spine snapping in half. Though the thing’s legs cease to move, the top half continues to struggle with my hold, seemingly unaffected. Interesting. I grab hold of the creatures chin with my left hand, and in one swift movement, twist the neck so that the head is almost facing myself. Then, taking my right arm away from the things shoulder, push two of my fingers into the beasts eye sockets. I proceed to rip its head off. After decapitating the thing, I examine the head, still attempting to bite me. I raise the head high above myself, and bring it crashing down into the solid earth. There is a blood splatter when the head makes contact, but it is nothing like what it should be. Even as I examine my fingers, I see that none of the blood was able to make it under my nails. I walk over to where I threw the machete and pick it up. As I examine it, I find no chinks or dents in the blade. The only problem is the blood coated onto it from being lodged in the thing. I despise the use of weapons. However, I will not be able to fight off swarms of those beasts with nothing but my hands. I take the blade into my home, and begin cleaning and sharpening it. Instead of polishing it, however, I light a fire in my hearth. I place the blade into the smoke until it is completely covered in soot. Good. Now it will not reflect light. After doing this, I begin to think of where the beast could have come from, for surely such a thing was not from the Gods. It must be the town. Taking a piece of cloth and a days worth of food, I bundle it into a manageable pack. I then take a stick and throw the bundle on it. I change into my fighting robes, which are white on the outside but black on the inside. If I travel by night, I will turn my robes inside-out and become one with the night. I stick the machete in my belt and throw the stick over my shoulder. I smile to myself. I must look like a child running away from home. Taking a piece of wood out of the fire, I bring it outside and ignite the remains of the creature. I begin to walk away from my home, knowing that I may never see it again. I know that this outbreak must be stopped, however. I cannot allow these creatures to roam the earth. I begin running in the direction of the town. May the gods protect me.

It is very early in the morning by the time I reach the outskirts of the city. The moon is high in the sky, and gives an eerie light to the area. Everywhere, there are signs of people fleeing an area. Cars are stuck bumper to bumper, there are belongings lying on the side of the road, and the scent and sight of blood is unmistakable. It covers the outsides and insides of cars. It is splattered on the road. I am careful to step around pools, for I know there is a chance it is infected. However, I do not see any bodies. Either they have all been eaten… or they’ve been removed. Sure enough, as I continue down the road, I see signs of a still living human presence. There are lights, new military vehicles, and the sound of gunfire and men shouting. They must still be engaged in a battle with those beasts. I decide it will be best to avoid them, for I do not wish to have to harm them. I begin to sneak through the cars, and catch sight of exactly what is happening. The soldiers have made a barricade using their vehicles, and are firing at things behind it. Although I hear the shrieks of the creatures, I also hear the cries of men and women. They’re shooting everything that moves. Although I know that this is an evil and punishable deed, I do not have the time to deliver proper justice. I skirt around this scene to an area that is badly lighted with few guards, these non-military. I can hear them complain.
“Man, this is fuckin’ bullshit. I don’t even know why we’re here. Why can’t we just bomb the hicks and level the damn place?”
“Because, dumbass, we need some of those monsters. The government wants to study ’em or something.”
“Where did you hear that?” The man with the information taps his nose on the side.
“I got my ways, buddy. Just don’t get eaten. You’ll see it go down.” I pick up a rock and throw it against a vehicle a few feet away. It hits with a satisfying clang.
“What the fuck was that?” The men immediately pick up their weapons and turn on their flashlights. As their backs are turned to the barricade, I hop over it and begin to run for the cover of the houses. I am not fast enough, however, because I hear behind me, “What the… hey! What the hell are you doin’? Shoot that dumbass!” I hear bullets tear up the ground around me, but none of them make contact. I am soon in the town and safe from the military. For now. As I walk through the streets cautiously, I see what many would refer to as hell. Here, body’s are still all over the area, most half eaten and all dead. Blood is everywhere, and the shrieks of the creatures can be heard from all directions. As I take in the scene, I hear people come running around a corner. Two men and one woman, all dressed in gear that strongly indicated that they were soldiers. “Freeze!” I heard the woman shout, and immediately felt bullets whiz around me once again. I dive into a nearby alleyway, and begin to change my robe even as I run. By the time I reach the end of the alley, I am black as night. I cannot help but smile to myself. Try shooting something you cannot see. As I hear the soldiers running around the corner of the alley, I scramble my way up a nearby wall and hoist myself onto the roof. I see a man’s face disappear from a nearby structure, appearing to be a bar. I can hear the soldiers voices bellow me.
“Shit! Where the hell did that guy just go?”
“I have no idea. Hey, wait. Did you see a guy in that bar?”
“I didn’t see anything.”
“Me neither.”
“I know I just saw a guy over there.”
“Fine. Let’s check some of the other houses, then we’ll take a peek in your bar. Happy?”
The soldiers march off to a nearby house, leaving me to wait on the roof. No matter what they say, I did see a man in that bar. I cannot make my way there quite yet though. I don’t want to risk an encounter with these soldiers. I watch as they slowly work their way over to the bar. As they reach the door, one of them knocks on the door and calls something inside. I watch as a man opens the door, and, seeing the soldiers, shoots two of them in the head and injures the third. It was the woman who was injured. The man, clearly in a blind rage, gets on the woman and began beating her in the face, they exchange words as another man pulls the angry one off the woman. They bring her inside, and close the door. Although I do not approve of the treatment of the woman, I cannot call it anything but self defense. I consider revealing myself to the group in the bar, but I decide against it. I hear a scream. I decide that if anything wrong has been done, I will punish the man tomorrow. I need sleep, and doubtless someone will be killed if I try to enter the bar tonight. I settle myself down on the roof, and close my eyes. I sleep lightly.
It is morning when I awaken, and the sun is almost blinding. I survey the area around my roof, and do not see anything threatening. I begin to work my way over to the bar, jumping from roof to roof. Finally, I land on the roof of the bar, and look for a way inside. I see a hatch that will surely take me down, and work it open. I come down into a room, probably someone’s living quarters until very recently. I open the door and find a staircase leading downwards, and progress slowly. The stairs are wooden and make noise, but I do my best to move quietly. As I reach the bottom of the stairs, I am faced with another door. I twist the knob, and it is unlocked. I push the door open swiftly, and suddenly find that things have slowed down again. I hear a blade whistling through the air, coming straight at my head. In an action more reflex than thought, I whip my machete out of my belt and intercept the blade. I see the man who has swung the blade at my head, and he comes right up to my face from in-between our weapons.
He asks me in a clearly Scottish accent “Who the bloody hell are you?”
Even as he says this, I knock his feet out from under him with a sweeping motion of my leg and knock his machete from his now-loose hand. He quickly tries to get up, but I place my weapon against his throat.
“I believe the question is, friend, who are you?” I say with as little malice as possible. I never receive an answer, however, because I feel a gun pushed against my head. Without a word, I place my machete back in my belt and offer a hand to the man I have just knocked down. He knocks my hand away, however, and gets up himself. He is clearly restraining himself from trying to hit me.
“Now I’m gonna ask you again, and I better get a damn answer. Who are you?” I smile at him and give him my response.
“It has been an incredibly long time since I have heard that question.” Looking around the room, I see the soldier woman against a wall, looking exhausted. I also see the one with the gun, and to my surprise, it is another woman. This one is young and very beautiful, however. I can smell the alcohol on her breath.
“Aren’t you a little drunk to be handling that weapon?” She blushes and lowers the gun. I turn back to the man who attacked me. I can see that he to is young. So these are the ones that survive.
“I am your friend.” The young man, although not appearing happy with my answer, does not push the matter. He must have guessed that I would not reveal any more information. At least not yet. He extends his hand to me, though not looking completely trusting yet. I grip his hand tightly and shake it.
“I’m Calvin.” He says shortly. “This is Heather” he says indicating to the young woman, now sitting on a stool “and that is Mr. Anderson.” He now indicated to a man lying under a table, still looking dazed and sleepy. I walk over to a chair and sit down on it, crossing my legs in a meditative stance. I indicate to a chair opposite myself, and the young man walks over to it after retrieving his machete and gun. He chooses not to sit, but instead stands behind the chair.
“So,” I say, now with a new determination “what in the name of the Gods has happened here?”

"Now, for some answers." Oh,look here, mr Macho. I'm pretty mad now, but it's a dull rage, not blinding.

she spits in my face. I hit her. Heather gasps, but keeps silent. Mr Anderson is wary, but remains uninvolved. good.

"Why did you shoot at us?" I ask. not yelling, composure is key.

"I told you. Orders."

"But who gave them to you?"

"My C.O."

"And that is?" not a second to think. she's not lying.

"Major Roth."

"And what's going on outside this town?"

"I don't know exactly..." she begins to trail off. i squeeze her shoulder. That has to hurt.

She screams. "N-No more, please..."

"What is going on?!" i ask. yelling this time, get an emphasis.

"The infection is everywhere! it's spreading faster than we can contain it. We set up roadblocks but calls were already coming in from as far away as New York. All in one night!"

"I believe you." i leave it at that and drop her to her own support. I move to get replacement bandages.

Suddenly, Heather is pointing her handgun at the door, finger over her lips. I can hear it. A creaking from the stairs.

She stands beside the door, and waves to me. I ready my machete. Nothing for a few seconds. Then, the door opens. I swing my blade at the person coming through, but he blocks it with a machete of his own, and we stand at a stalemate. "Who the bloody hell are you?" i ask.

He kicks at my leg and knocks me down. the machete is at my neck. "I believe the question is, friend, who are you?"

And there's trusty Heather, with the gun at his head. God that woman is a lifesaver.

He puts his blade away and attempts to help me up. i refuse, and get up myself. Something tells me this man could easily have taken the gun from Heather. Maybe he doesn't want a conflict.

"Now I'm going to ask you again, and i better get a damn answer. Who are you?"

He smiles. "It has been an incredibly long time since i have heard that question."

He just turns his head and looks around. His eyes focus on Heather. "Aren't you a little drunk to be handling that weapon?"

I get a second to take him in. He has short-cropped black hair, and blue eyes. He can't be over thirty-five.

He turns back to me. "I am your friend." Cryptic son of a bitch.

No way i can get answers out of him.

I introduce him quickly to everyone.

I'm still pissed at him dropping me like that, but ill let it past. just keep breathing. that seemed to be my motto recently.

He walks in down the center of the room and sits on a barstool. I watch him. he seems almost harmless as he sits there. He's obviously in excellent shape. His robe is some sort of asian style. Why are americans obsessed with asian culture? i ask myself.

I hear a groan. The woman has crawled up the stairs and toward the door. i walk over and pull her back down from the stairwell by her pant leg.

He rises, and makes to grab me as she moans at the pain in her shoulder. I put up a hand. "I know what I'm doing, just watch."

I get some bandages cobbled together earlier and the vodka bottle. I had found a small first aid kit, and had salvaged the parts for my bag. nothing good though.

He has sat back down. I carefully remove the bloodied bandage and run some vodka over the wound. it stings, and she groans, but it also washes away the old blood, and i can see that her wound is healing very well. i soak the bandage in vodka as well and place it gingerly over the sore. the scab is slowly congealing, and it should be well soon. "Move your fingers." i tell her. She wiggles them faintly. good, she can still use it.

I ensure the bandage is tight and bring her her jacket. She puts it on.

I look over at the man. "See? No harm, no foul. Yet."

He nods, and continues to watch.

"Now, Martha-"

She cuts me off. "Marty. call me Marty."

"Alright. Marty, can you still fire your weapon?" Looking at her now, she is actually quite beautiful. She has bright blonde hair, and her eyes are also blue.

"I think so. I'm right handed, so my gun goes against the good shoulder. I can probably still fire accurately."

"Good, I think that-"
Again, cut off, this time by a scuffle behind me.

Heather has my machete, and she is trying desperately to get at Marty. She's sobbing, and both the new guy and Steve are holding her back by her arms.

"You bitch! You whore! God dammit i hate you! You fucker! You killed him!" She yells.
Good lord. She's talking about Michael.
I walk over to her, and i pull the machete from her hand, throw it to the side, and embrace her, whispering again. "Shush now, it'll all turn out okay, quiet, thats right, shush..." god i can act. after this, its straight to broadway.

She's calming down, still crying.

I look at the new guy.

"Thank you."

"I am only an observer, Calvin. I will not interfere with things i do not understand. Although i must admit i am curious."

"Her friend. Our friend. I think they were closer though." I respond. "He was killed. shot through the stomach by some military men."

"Ah. i understand. I am sorry for your loss."

"Thank you again."

I move back to Marty. "Did you hear anything about that?" she shakes her head. I nod. "We'll be moving soon. I took the walkies from your friends. everyone here has one, and if we're separated, we call each other. No military. They'll kill you now too now that you're wounded. And they won't ask any questions, before or after."

She nods. I continue.

"Now, we have to move out. We're looking to get back some friends of ours from some survivors out there who took them. i'll change the channel every few seconds on my walkie to see if they have a broadcast out there."

I offer one of the MX8s to Marty. She takes it and two extra clips. I offer the other to the new guy, but he refuses. Weird.

We move up the staircase. I open the door. Same racket as before, with less gunfire. We move out, keeping low.

It strikes me that I'll need to refer to this guy as something. "You," i say to him, he turns. "I'm calling you Bud until i get your name, you fine with that?"

He nods a response.

"Good."

"What are you looking at?"

"Huh?"

"what are you looking at?......at a time like this you still have to look don’t you?"

"Well at a time like this......you still have your skirt up high."

"There you go again..." I tell myself wiping off the tears "...your an emotional wreck. What happened to not crying anymore? you have to stop! You were not like this before."
I wipe the tears and follow behind Martha as the group leave the bar, if she tries anything funny I want the pleasure of killing her. We’re outside the bar now, we have to look for the others...Kelly, Shelly and Frank. We take to the alleyway behind the bar as to not draw attention. Calvin leads, occasionally changing the frequency of his radio, the sounds of gunfire and shrieks can still be heard in the distance, yet the gunfire seems to be less heard then the shrieks now. We proceed down the alleyway until we come to the end of it and enter Languor street, the business part of town, where the City Hall is. A few cars are scattered around the place as well sight of bulletholes riddled in some of the cars.
Mr Anderson taps Calvin on the shoulder and points to one small structure, the Cattle Farming Store. We slowly walk towards the store when suddenly we hear multiple shrieks, I look towards the alleyway we were in and see 4 monsters running straight for us, they must have come from one of the other entrances. I fire my gun but the recoil catches me by surprise and hits one of them in the neck. Martha then fires her rifle at the monsters, accurately but quickly shoots them all in the head. I then see Calvin and Mr Anderson shooting 3 more of those things that appeared from the opposite alleyway near the Cattle Farming store, it seems the military hasn’t wiped out all of these things yet. Bud appears to have done nothing, seeing as he only had his machete but when he moves away, I see a monster with its head removed on the floor next to him.
"Let’s head for that store now..." Calvin says "...we should wait there temporarily, while we rest a bit."
We hastily rush to the store and lock the door.
Bud sits down on the floor in some sort of meditative pose. Mr Anderson searches the store for food supplies but being a store for farming cattle he only comes back with a long length of rope, I wonder how the others are faring or if Michael somehow survived... I’m about to cry again but I remember what Michael told me DON’T CRY. Martha slowly massages her wounded shoulder. I’m glad shes hurting. Calvin once again changes the frequency on his radio
"...that’s what Dean said..." a male voice says through the walkie-talkie "...we’ll hold up in there for awhile. We gotta get some more fuel for this big ass thing anyway, over and out."
"Did you hear that?" I remark
"Those could be the people who took the others..." said Mr Anderson "...question is were could they be?"
"FUCK!..." Calvin cursed punching his fists together "...If those stupid things didn’t attack us then I could’ve got the location!"
"Calm yourself..." Bud spoke "...he said we have to get fuel for this big...thing, it must be a vehicle the size of a truck perhaps."
"Hrmm..." Calvin slowly sighed "...okay that means they could be in at least 4 different Gas stations."
"No..." Martha called out "...they said that they would hold up there and if Bud is right then the only place to safely get fuel for a truck and shelter would be a truck depot."
A smile showed on Bud’s face and wide smiles on Mr Anderson and Calvin.
"Then they must be in Coodie Street..." Calvin says "...that’s the only place in this town that has a truck depot but that’s at least 3 hours away from here though."
The smiles began to fade.
"But its a start..." I continue "...and we can-"
"Think about it..." Martha interjects "...are you sure that these people have your friends? they could be just some other people who’ll kill you on sight."
"We have to take that chance..." I snap "...and besides its better then being holed up in a Cattle Farming store!"
There’s tension in the air now. I’m sure she knows I despise her. I unlock the door and go outside. The noises are still around but the cool breeze calms me down. I hear the door open and out comes Bud.
"I suppose your here to cheer me up or give me advice?" I say coldly.
"Perhaps but what Im most curious about is why you have such a deep hatred for Marty?" he calmly asks.
"You heard Calvin, you know what they did to Michael."
"I know and I once again am sorry to hear that but why do you hate her in particular?"
"It’s because she tried to kill us the other day, what’s to stop her from doing that again when she gets the chance?"
I can tell he wants to know more about Michael.
"What is the story behind Michael?"
"What happened to being an observer, don’t you know curiosity killed the cat?" I ask
"I wish for satisfaction to bring back the cat" he replies.
"A joke......doesn’t seem like you" I answer
"I understand if you do not wish to discuss this but I know it feels better to talk about it."
"There’s nothing to talk about...I’ve seen him at school since he started 2 years ago but I never talked to him. The only interaction we had was when he would look at my legs and we would smile at each other..." I laugh at the last part and contradictingly talk about more things "...it was only until a couple of days ago when these monsters came that we finally met and talked. He found me and my......brother..."
"Im sorry"
I sigh "...you know what? I don’t feel like talking anymore I ju-"
A loud shriek from the same alley and a female figure runs towards us. Bud stepped in front of me but I stepped to the side and aim my gun, this time I was ready for the recoil and I pulled the trigger and hit the thing right in the middle of it’s forehead. More shrieks this time as more of the monsters come from different directions.
"I believe it is time to go back inside" Bud says
We retreat back inside and everyone quickly prepares for the onslaught. Unfortunately the store doesn’t seem have anything to barricade the windows with so we all jump behind the counter. Its actually big enough that we can all face the entrance and the big window of the store in one row.
"Okay..." Martha shouts "...me and Calvin will shoot first, when we yell reload, Heather and Anderson start shooting. We alternate like this until we kill all of them.
"How many did you see?" Mr Anderson asks
"I saw about 20 of them.." Bud replies "...they may have heard the shots being fired from before, it may have brought there attention here."
During the next few minutes the sound of machine gun fire filled the air. Calvin and Martha begin a sweeping shooting motion as a group of monsters crash through the window, they aimed for their heads.
"Reload!!!" Calvin shouted
Martha had just finished her clip and it was our turn to shoot. I only had a handgun but I do my best to kill as many of these things as possible.
"Reload!!!" Mr Anderson shouts
The monsters were lying dead around the windows of the store by the time Calvin and Martha finished reloading for the second time. The sun still shined into the store but now the smell of decay mixed with hot metal filled the air.
"Okay we have to jack a car if we want to get to the depot as quick as possible." Calvin states
We jump back over the counter and slowly walk towards the entrance. I notice that the store has 24 inch Electric cattle prods...and they even came with a free belt to put it in. I take it and test the prod. A crackling spark comes from the tip confirming that it still worked. This may come in handy. I wear the belt and slip the prod in. We carefully step outside the store now and approach a 4 door station wagon among the cars that litter the streets. It doesn’t appear to to be damaged and theres no blood in the inside of the car.

"Okay..." Mr Anderson sighs "...are we going to break into it or should we walk to the depot?"

15:40 PM November 13th 2008

We have spent the last couple of hours stalking up on supplies. I found out, after our little ceremony, that we were in an abandoned safehouse (the city was crawling with the since most people left their old safehouses intact for the next occupier). We are extremely lucky because this one has a lot of supplies here. And I mean A LOT. It has everything from coffee (I miss that sooooo much) to Browning M2s and everything in between. I swap my Glock for two, that’s right TWO Desert Eagles. I also take about 7 clips for them and I took a Saiga-12 with a torch attached and 200 shells. We stock up on canned food and bottled water and by the time we were done we have enough supplies to last us two weeks.

We leave and head straight to the nearest man-hole and enter the god-forsaken sewers. We have to turn on our torches to see even 2 feet in front. However this does not deter us. We push on.
“I hate the dark” Sherly says. I think this is odd considering we have been fighting zombies for months but I keep my mouth shut. “It started when I was 3. My brother used to joke about monsters coming out and eating people in the dark.” She just couldn’t stop. It wasn’t a wave of words it was a tsunami of them. “I actually took him seriously. And it has scarred me for all my life. He moved out a year ago. He must be worried sick about what’s happening here.” After this she falls silent. I can hear movement ahead. “This is it. It’s either The Wall or some zeds.” I think. “
Stay sharp” I whisper to everyone. Then we round a corner and we see it. We see the quarantine wall. Well to call it a wall would be a compliment. It is little more than a sandbag barricade.

I shoot my Saig-12 at the 5 guards. Three go down in a torrent of screams.

My allies shoot and kill the rest of them. We run on and jump over the sandbags and into the freedom beyond. Or so we think… After crossing the border it is only a short walk until we find the first man-hole cover. We go up and we are amazed to find that we had emerged on the other side of The Wall.

“I’m going up that tower to have one last look at Ivener.” Will tells us. With that he walks up to the door, opened it and climbed the steps. I followed and soon we are all up there. What we saw put the events of the past couple of months into perspective. Smoke was rising from many of the buildings and screams of the dead and dieing and gunshots can be heard. The seen is one of utter devastation.
“It was supposed to save millions but instead it took millions.” Mak comments as he shakes his head sadly.
“Yeah Lastrot really screwed up.” Will says and then he bows his head in a sign of respect.
“This is why we shouldn’t tamper with nature.” Sherly tells everyone quietly. “This shouldn’t have been the way it ended. Everyone should have grown old and died naturally instead of dieing this way” I commented. I raise my gun and shoot one of the hundreds of zombies trying (and failing) to claw their way through the wall. We descend the stairs as slowly as we climbed them. When we get down we ran.

"Ok so we all know what to do?" I ask my small group.
"Yes." They reply in unison. We are hidding in a forest waiting to ambush a convoy of 5 haz-mat vans which Will has seen the symbol of Lastrot (a nine-sided star) on . 5 of them, 4 of us. When they aree level with us we jump them.
POW POW POW POW POW POW
We soot the drivers of four of the haz-mats are killed and we take their vehicles, however during the brief fight the fifth haz-mat van has gotten to far away to even dream of catching.

10:40 AM

"The chemical spill has been declared non-lethal by scientists." I'm watching a news report on the TV ,that came with our room at this hotel, about a chemical spill.
"Why does this happen to us ?!" I scream in a rage of fury. We guesed early on that the van that chrashed was the fifth haz-mat van. "I can only hope that this isn't the cure for AIDS that has been spilled." I shout. Mak turns off the TV and states:
"Calm down you'll only draw suspition on us. And anyway we need to be prepared for the worst." What he says is true so I begin thinking about how we are going to survive the coming battle.

(I said I was going to tie it in with the story didn't I. Anyone can use these characters, just don't kill them.)

The question posed my Mr. Anderson is certainly an insightful one. Although a car would make our journey much shorter, it may make our lives much shorter to. The engine will attract every creature in earshot, and there is no guarantee that the road will be clear enough to drive. Nevertheless, Calvin is determined to take the station wagon and deal with the risks as they come. A debate is soon sparked between him and the soldier.
“Do you have any idea how bloody long it’s gonna take if we walk!?” Calvin is almost screaming. The woman’s response is quieter but equally forceful.
“At least walking won’t immediately get us killed.”
“Look, these things are fast, but there’s no way they can outrun a car.”
“How fast do you think you’re gonna go on these streets? We’ll be lucky if we top 10 miles an hour!” Now Heather joins the argument.
“Listen bitch, you’re in no place to be making decisions here. You’re lucky your still alive!” Mr. Anderson stays out of the conversation, choosing instead to look around the streets to make sure no more monsters would sneak up on us. The voices escalate.
“You’re stupidity is going to get all of us killed!”
“Well if we’re all gonna die, we might as well put you down first, eh?!” Guns start getting raised, and I can sense that things will turn very bad very soon without interference. I calmly step into the middle of the group, blocking everyone’s view of each other and preventing bloodshed. The guns lower. I decide it is time to speak.
“I understand your friends are in trouble. I know that you feel compelled to help them, no matter what the circumstances. However,” I look straight at Calvin and Heather “we cannot accomplish this goal if we are dead. Even if it takes a full day to get there, we must ensure our survival.” Heather looks at me coldly.
“Your siding with her.”
“If her side keeps us alive long enough to rescue your friends, then yes.” She glares at me, then at Martha. She walks to Mr. Anderson and begins to relate to him what transpired. Calvin looks at me now, looking more worried than angry.
“What if we don’t make it in time? What if they’re all dead?”
“Then we live to regret our decision.”
Calvin sighs and walks away. He walks to Mr. Anderson and starts discussing with him the quickest way to arrive at the truck depot on foot. I turn around to face Martha. I can see that she is grateful for my interference.
“Thank you. I don’t think they would have hesitated to kill me.” I talk now in all seriousness.
“Marty, these are not bad people. They are simply doing what they think is right. Just ask yourself if you would have done anything different.” She nods and begins rubbing her injured shoulder. I decide to leave her to her own thoughts for now. As I walk to the others, I hear them quietly discussing another matter. Mr. Anderson is the one talking.
“I’m telling you, those screams are getting closer. We need to make a decision, and we need to do it fast.” Even as he says these words, we all hear a shriek from down the street. As we turn to face them, I realize how right Mr. Anderson is. There is a group of fifteen creatures, all running towards us. I start talking before anyone else has a chance to react.
“We must react as the situation demands. As of now, the situation demands a vehicle. I suggest we try our luck with the streets.” In a silent agreement, we all begin to run back towards the car. I can see that Martha is already working on getting it started. Once we reach the car, however, we see that another group of things is running at us in the direction we wish to escape from. There are only ten this time, but we are now trapped. I realize that I now have a choice to make. I turn to Calvin, who has already begun to fire at the creatures running towards us.
“I am going to distract the creatures from behind us. You and the others must clear a path so we may leave. Only aid me after you’ve done this.” He looked at me like I had lost my mind.
“You can’t kill all those things at once! It’s bloody suicide!” I smile at him.
“Trust me.”
I run off at the group behind us before he can say another word. I can hear him yelling profanities at me as I go. I draw my machete and begin to formulate a plan for distracting the creatures without dying. Suddenly, one beast pulls out in front of the others. Now I have an idea. I increase my pace. Just before the thing has a chance to grab me, I swing my machete from left to right in my right hand, cleanly severing it’s head. As the body continues forwards, I grab it by its shirt collar and swing it around and straight into the group. I knock several of them down in a mass of writhing limbs, and leap over the pile and into the group. My goal now is to injure the things in any way possible while avoiding being bitten. I sever another head as I land, duck under the arms of another, and slice the legs out from under one that was running past. From there, I am a blur of motion. My reflex’s have taken over, and I act without thinking. One arm here, another leg there. I realize at one point that I am surrounded by a whirlwind of body parts. Suddenly, I emerge from the mass of creatures. The ordeal felt as though it took an hour, though I know it could not have been more that a few seconds. I stop and look at the greatly reduced numbers of the group I attacked. I counted five dead, six otherwise impaired, and four I had not touched. As they creatures see me emerge on the other side of them, they start to scramble back in my direction. Even as I prepare my self for the next encounter, I see something very heartening. My friends have finished with the smaller mass, and now have opened fire on the ones facing me. Of the ten not killed, only one of them reaches me. I decide to test a theory I have. I flatten my blade at the creature as it runs at me, and once it comes within arms-length, I thrust my blade straight through its neck. Immediately I see the body go limp though the head continues to snap at me. I withdraw my machete, and then crack it’s head open with the handle. It’s as I thought. The brain can function independent of the body. All one really has to do is sever the spinal cord. As I begin to walk back to my group, I see that the car is running. Martha is half in-half out of the drivers seat, watching me intently as I reach the car. The others seem at least a little awe-struck. Calvin is the first one I decide I must speak with.
“Thank you.” Calvin seems surprised that I say this, but does not ask why I thank him.
“We just did what we had to.” After this, I can see that he is all business, and wants answers. I decide I have held out on this group long enough.
“I think I must explain myself.”
Calvin responds first.
“Damn straight you do. First of all, why the hell won’t you use a gun? We easily could have killed those things before they got near us” I immediately have my answer.
“I despise the use of weapons.” He looks dumbstruck by my response, but quickly forms what he wants to say next. I can hear a small amount of frustration in his voice.
“If you hate weapons, then how in the bloody hell are you able to survive that kind of attack!” I smile and give him the truth.
“Just because I do not approve of weapons does not mean I do not know how to use them properly.” He looks as if he wishes to ask me more, but we are cut of by more screams. We decide it is time to go. I am the first one into the backseat, sliding over to the window and making room for Heather in the middle and Mr. Anderson on the other side. Calvin takes the passenger side in the front and Martha is in the driver seat. I look behind us, and see a group larger than thirty running straight towards us. I hear Martha slam on the gas peddle and we go roaring down the street as fast a station wagon can go. Luckily enough, we have a clear road long enough to escape the screams of the creatures, though we all know we will not be able to loose them completely. Everyone, including myself, is nevertheless happy to put some distance between the two of us. As I turn around to face front, I see that Calvin is staring straight at me, as if trying to solve a difficult puzzle.
“Now.” he says in the most serious tone I’ve heard him use yet. “Who the hell are you?”

"Marty do you even know where the depot is?" I scream as she turns right at an intersection.
"Lets just get away from them first." She struggles as she makes a quick left.
It seems Calvin and Bud have stalled the conversation for now. We hastily drive turning right and left until we no longer see any ‘Shriekers’ as I’ve dubbed them following behind us. Martha now begins to slow down to not create as much noise.
"Are you ready to explain yourself? now" Calvin asks Bud in a serious voice.
"Yes" he replies

It has been a very long time since I have related my story to anyone. However, these people deserve the truth. They should know who I am.
“I believe that I should start with my name.” Everyone in the car is listening more closely now.
“My name is James.” I pause, letting this information sink in.
“I am 26 years old, and I have no living family. I live in the country, mostly isolated from the rest of society. I came here to make sure these creatures are destroyed. Whether or not it is by my hand, however, is unimportant. Their destruction is my goal.” Though I relate this information, Calvin seems unsatisfied. He quickly asks my a question.
“Yeah, yeah, that’s great, but you still didn’t answer my question. How can you do that with a sword?” I suppose this was inevitable.
“I was raised by a martial arts master. He was one of the greatest who ever lived. Since I have been able, I immersed myself in the art of fighting. I have learned and mastered over ten different styles of fighting, some including the use of weapons, which is what you just witnessed.” Instead of impatience, Calvin’s facial expression is one of respect. I am glad that my answer has satisfied him. However, Heather is not.
“If your so good at fighting, why aren’t you competing for money or something? Shouldn’t you be fighting for prizes?” This is a subject I had hoped to avoid, but now it is here, and there is no use trying to avoid it.
“When I was 17, my master died. After his death, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Then I learned of fighting tournaments. I figured I could put my skills to use. In my age class, I was unparalleled. I won my matches with ease, and won more money with it. I was advanced through each class, each more challenging than the last. By the time I had reached the top tier, however, I was bored. Hand to hand fighting wasn’t good enough. This was when I turned to the underbelly of fighting.”
“What do you mean?”
“I was fighting illegally, using real weapons. People really would get hurt. Sometimes, there was death. Still, I was undefeated. I was making even more money than I had before.” It is difficult to relate this part of my life. It is something I often try to forget about.
“I was young and cocky. One on one was nothing. I began fighting one on two, one on three, more sometimes. I don’t even know what for. It wasn’t the money anymore. It was a hunger for violence. I was too foolish to control this feeling. I let it grow. Then it happened.” I stop. I can barely make myself say the next words. I can feel the groups eyes fall on me.
“I killed a man. I try to convince myself it is an accident, but I’m not sure it was. I remember every moment of it. I remember parrying his blade, seeing the fear in his eyes, and driving my weapon into his figure. I remember seeing the life leave him as I pulled my weapon away, watching the blood reflect the dim light of the arena. What haunts me the most, though, is the way the crowed cheered. They loved it. It sickens me the way they enjoyed death. I realized what I had become. I left that place, and I never returned. I dedicated myself to solitude after that. What you see now is the result of 7 years of isolation. Now you know.” I don’t feel that it is necessary to tell them how I came to my self-isolation. Besides, we should have our wits about us instead of listening to me ramble. I still can’t help but expect to be attacked. This trip has gone far too easily so far.

As the conversation continues we get to an intersection and as we turn to Baker St. we are ambushed by 5 Military looking personnel, All of them look heavily armored but what’s strange is the fact that their clothing seems different from what Martha wears.

"Get out of the car and put your hands up!" One masked man shouts

"Marty..." Calvin whispers "...I thought they were supposed to kill everything on sight. What’s going on?" He slowly readies his rifle.
"Judging from their clothing..." Martha whispers back "...they’re not part of the Military, they must belong to a PMC, their Mercs."
"Mercs? What are mercenaries doing here?" Mr Anderson asks

"I said get out of the car and put your hands up!" The masked man repeats

We slowly get out of the car. One masked man who appears to be darked skinned walks to us and throws a huge duffel bag towards us.
"Put all your shit in there..." he speaks "...all your weapons"
He winks at me and steps back. One by one we place our weapons into the duffel bag, guns,the electric prod and blades, but I keep the knife Calvin gave me still strapped behind my waist, I don’t think they notice it. The dark man once again steps forward and takes the bag, the mercenaries walk forward until they’re only a few feet in front of us.

"Who are you people?" I ask
"Wow the little sheila is asking us who we are!" one masked man comments with an Australian accent.
They all laugh.
"She asked you a question" Calvin angrily shouts back
"Oh ho..." the darked skinned man retorts "...her boyfriend’s getting angry, lets see how he likes it when I touch her."

He tries to grab me with his right arm but luckily Bud quickly grabs it and bends it back and creates a human shield with the man and Bud uses his free hand to grab a knife from the shoulder sheath of the man and place it on his neck, all in one fluid movement, Bud and the mercenary are in front of me and I notice that the mercenary is still holding his rifle in his left hand.
"It is most unwise to do what I believe you were going to do to her..." Bud calmly says "...apologize or I will be forced to kill you."
"Now don’t do that..." the masked man who shouted before says "...or we’ll kill you"
Their guns are all pointed at Bud now. Calvin steps behind Bud.
"Now Bud..." Calvin whispers holding Bud’s shoulder with his right hand "...you don’t want to do anything stupid"
I observe Calvin slowly drawing out a handgun from behind his back with his left hand and gently presses it against Bud’s back, since Bud’s body obscures the sight of the handgun the mercenaries are unaware of it.
"Sometimes Bud..." he continues "...the 2 left of us have to apologize to Heather first before she can accept those on the right for laughing at her" Calvin looks at me and winks. His gaze quickly shifts to the mercenary’s rifle before going back to looking at me
"Is that cool with you babe?" he smiles.
I am amazed by his brilliant idea. The genius of it all.
"It is Cal..." I reply "...when will they apologize?"
"Now"
In a quick series of succession. Bud quickly cuts the mercenary’s throat, a split second after that Calvin has side stepped and fired his gun at the 2 mercenaries on the left and I have reached for the dead man’s rifle and fired into the 2 mercenaries on the right. In less then 5 seconds we’ve taken all 5 of them by surprise and killed them all. Bud has let go of the mercenary and the merc slumps to the ground.
I hug Bud for protecting me and then Calvin for his stroke of genius.
"Amazing" I say to him.
Mr Anderson and Martha stand there amazed as well. I think I can actually see Calvin going red in the face.
"Okay I know I am amazing..." he says smugly "...how about a kiss?"
"How about we take those weapon and their armor? it looks like it could come in handy." I reply.
"That’s a good idea Heather" Mr Anderson laughs.

It takes us some time to further gear up and from what Martha and Calvin say they mercs carried M-16s, Mark 23 handguns and a grenade each. Although they appeared heavily armored they only had padded clothing. Martha said that would slow us down and those Shriekers would be a bigger problem then people, I’m starting to respect her now. The only clothing that was useful were the load bearing vests they carried.
So there I was, me still with a short skirt with a load bearing vest filled with 4 magazines for my M-16 and my Mark 23.
"Your like Jill Valentine..." I think to myself "...your like what Michael talked about back at school."
The memory of Michael on the street comes back but I force it away. I see Calvin offering Bud a vest but he politely refuses to wear any of it but suggests we bring everything in the boot of the station wagon in case we need it. Bud really is a curiously strange person despite what he revealed.
We drive off. We never figure out why there’s mercenaries here or what Military Company they came from but with the extra guns, we were prepared to face any dangers that could may threaten us or our friends. I just hope that they are safe.

"Its 11:56am now..." Martha states while tapping the digital clock in the car "...we should be there before nightfall"
We get to the depot without a hitch. We park far enough to still be able get a good view of the depot. It’s 2:30pm now and we notice a huge semi parked inside the Truck Depot. The outside of the depot has huge steel shutters in the loading bay and the windows are small rectangular shaped, enough for someone to crawl in and out of. It really is a good place to hold up in, now I just hope Kelly, Frank and Shelly are there.

"Anyone got a plan on how we do this?" I ask

Nov.16th2008

We had been walking for hours killing these...people? At first it had been difficult they were civies and they were unarmed, but we had quickly learned that these things were not your average small town American. We walked single file down the dark street silenced by our grim duty directly behind me walked corporal Berman then private Simon then Sally an attractive young female who was the only survivor we'd found so far then private Delgato taking up the rear. We had just passed under a flickering street light when the radio crackled "Alpha team, stand by for new orders..." We waited in silence "All units new orders are to eliminate all subjects infected or not. Alpha team will head to the truck depot to eliminate insurgents, Bravo team will report to the high school, And charlie team will take city hall. All other units are to continue patrols." Every ones breath caught as we heard the command. I fingered my radio considering my options. Then I clicked the transmitter and raised the walkie slowly "Roger that Alpha team out." Sally gasped and Delgato ran forward "Sir did they just order us to kill non-infected?" He asked "Were not seriously gonna do that?"
"Of course we are!" said Simon "We arnt gonna defy command." They began to shout loudly arguing about the order."Hey!" I shouted "I'm the captain of this squad and I'm gonna tell us what our orders are. Now we go to the depot." Delgado and Simon both began to say something but I cut them off "And when we get there we are gonna protect those civilians with our lives."
"Sir we-" Simon began.
"Who is in charge of this unit!" I said cutting him off again.
"You sir." he said quietly.
"That's goddamn right, now we go to that depot and we find those civies and we get them out of this hellhole." I shouted. The depot was a couple miles out and we arrived around 7 p.m., It was a large square building with small windows and there appeared to be activity inside we began to approach across the huge parking lot when a shot rang out and I could feel the disturbance as a bullet whized past my ear "Hit the deck!" I shouted and we all dived behind a Volkswagen as more shots rang out. We sat behind the car breathing heavily while bullets continued to impact the opposite side of the car. "Shit" I said looking around Simon began to raise up and I grabbed his sleeve "Hold your fire!" I shouted to my men. Then I looked to Sally and said "Give me your jacket." she did and I continued to look around realizing that the lot was empty I strung the white jacket over my rifle and raised it above the car swinging it from side to side. The fire continued for a short time then slowly dropped off. Then a voice came over a megaphone "Drop your weapons and come to the door." The voice said. I sat down my G36 then took my .45 from its holster and handed it to Sally. I took a quick look at my surroundings but it was to dark to see anything. When I reached the door it swung open revealing a dark skinned woman and several men with leveled rifles. The woman said "You have three seconds to state your purpose before we blow your head off."
"Captain Daneils U.S. army rangers here to help." I said
"Help what, help those things kill us?" she retorted sharply. I considered this carefully they might have run into bravo or charlie now they think were out to kill them "No mam" I replied slowly "Those were our orders but this started as a rescue mission and that's how I'm gonna end it."
She stared at me then said "So what we let you inside and you decide the most efficient way to kill us?"
I could tell I was teetering on a dangerous edge and if I didn't end this soon they were gonna kill us or we were gonna kill them. I slowly reached behind my back and brought out my knife setting it on the floor then I did the same with my grenades "Look, now I'm unarmed Ive only got three more men out there and with your firepower you could pick them off easy." I said
She hesitate "All right, The names Audrey and your gonna need those" she said nodding towards the discarded weapons.

(You can kill Delgato and Simon but leave the others alive and try not use Sally to much)

5:50 PM November 14th 2008

“That will be $350.” The Gun store owner says. I hand him the money. Damn that was the last of it. But we all had to make sacrifices. We just had to get this sniper rifle. It was a Dragunov SVD. Sherly was buying a couple boxes of ammo for it. We had heard on the news about groups of cannibals roaming the streets eating people and they could be identified by their completely white eyes. We instantly knew that the cannibals were zombies so we prepared for the worst, by stocking up on weapons and ammo.

8:00 PM
We were right! They were zombies. They came at about 7:00 PM and broke into the hotel. They won’t do that again, we barricaded it all up since everyone else got killed. If the zombies do get in we have an escape route. We will jump out of one of the first floor windows get into the van (with extra metal, glass and (hopefully) a M2 Browning machinegun. After that we will drive the short distance across the road to a truck depot that’s nearby. We are taking it in shifts of 2 hours to watch for any survivors/ hordes.

8:20 AM November 15th 2008

About 20 zombies are outside now. Will’s only comment when he was coming off of watch was “We’re gonna need more ammo.” Which wasn’t actually true because in the four months that we needed to headshot our enemies in we had become good shots.

I shot one of the zombies in the head and blood started gushing out of the hole and it sprayed all of the undead around it.

12:20 PM I had bread for lunch. And it wasn’t stale! That is the best thing that has happened since I got out. The horde outside hasn’t seen us for about an hour and about half has already left, that leaves about 15 or so out there. More have come since 8 am. We keep hearing on the radio what the radio station inside Ivener kept saying:
“Stay in your homes, lock the doors, don’t panic and above all call the police if the cannibals try and attack you. If you get bitten or hurt in anyway go to the local hospital.” The advice is rubbish, no doubt the police station would at best be swamped with calls, but more likely be overrun with zombies and so will the local hospital. I don’t mind the zombies it’s just that the screams are sooooo annoying. That and the fact that they try to eat your brains.

5:30 PM
Nothing much is happening except the usual screams and gunshots. I hear words on the radio.
“Tomorrow *static* infected *static* rescue non-*static*”
“Copy *static* over” I think it must be a conversation between the military. Thank you military walkie-talkie. I kiss the walkie-talkie that I’ve been listening to for the past half-hour. It was mainly music, which was strange.
“*Static* road-blocks *static*-round Bowman *static* then work *static* in. Rescue *static* non-infected. Don’t *static* all of the *static*. *Static brass *static* specimens.” After that it falls silent.
“Sherly, what town are we in?” I ask Sherly, who is sitting across from me eating her pizza.
“Bowman” She replies through a mouthful of food. “Why?”
“Because I think the military are supposed to come and rescue us.” I state. Surely she must have heard.
“Remember Ivener. They erected the quarantine and then sent in some military and they all, well most of them were unprepared so they died.” She reminds me, after that we fall silent. I hurry up the stairs so that I can see what is happening in Bowman. It is a seen of utter devastation. Bodies are hanging out of windows, blood is on buildings walls and smoke is rising from lots of buildings.

(If this should be in page 3 then either tell and I'll move it or you can move it and I will know it has been moved. You can use these characters but remember don't kill them without my prmision and that they are in a hotel across the street from the truck depot.)
