Oldannyboy's Survival Plan.This is a featured page

My plan is very straight forward. My primary goal is too get me and mine to my bug out location in once piece.

Part 1. Organizing for the move.

My family and some of my friends have already agreed on a certain position that would be our meet up place in case of an emergency. At the first signs of trouble I would gather my house hold and assign them each a task.

We have a few supplies at home that we could gather rather quickly. We a few packs of bottled water in our kitchen that would be loaded up into our truck immediately. We also a large amount of canned goods in our cupboard and two of our closets.

I also have a large number of tools and hand held weapons that I believe would be wise to bring with us. I have several fixed blade knives to choose from as my primary fixed blade. My Ka-Bar would probably immediately go on my belt. I have 2 decent machetes that we would likely pack. I'm also in possession of a battle axe that my older brother forged for me, it could definitely go along as well. My B.O.L is already stocked with a large number of tools however, many of which like our splitting axes could double as useful weapons.

After the food is loaded we would gather my firearms and ammunition.
My current inventory; a Springfield 22lr bolt action rifle, an Ithaca 22 single action rifle, a Remington 78(700 variant) 30-06 rifle with a 6-24x40 scope, a Remington 7400 in 243 with a 3-9x40 scope, a Savage 20 gauge pump shotgun, an old no name single shot 410 shotgun, a High Standard 1911 in .45acp, a S&W 22A1 in 22lr, a Norinco SKS in 7.62x39 and lastly a Norinco Mak 90 in 7.62x39. I'm constantly shooting and buying more ammo so posting my ammo here would be a waste of time.
My inventory of guns and ammo is constantly changing so I will edit next time it changes.

If we had time (if things hadn't progressed to the point of mayhem) we could also gather some clothing and other daily items such as toiletries.

Part 2. Getting to my B.O.L.

Once we were loaded up with supplies we would leave the house. Our vehicle for transport would most likely be my father's F150. I've planned our route out enough to know that we'll only have a commonly traveled road once for less than a mile.
If the roads are clear we could make it to the B.O.L in less than 20 minutes. If we take the back roads we could still get there in less than half an hour.

Part 3. Resources.

The area I have selected for our B.O.L is my uncle's 40 acres of land out in the country. It's away from the city and isn't far enough out of the way that travelers won't likely stumble onto it.
I picked this area for more reasons than because it was simply in the middle of no where though. I've been hunting on this land for years, and I know it like the back of my hand. On top of that the area is full of natural resources.
There are two sources of water on the property. A fairly decent sized pond, and a river. I know for a fact that both of these also contain fish and other aquatic animals such as turtles. We could easily boil the water to make it safe to drink, and we could go fishing in a pinch if we needed some quick food (My uncle has fishing equipment on his land already).
Other than the two water sources I also know for a fact that the land is quite fertile. Fairly soon I will be purchasing seeds for a few types of vegetables, primarily corn (which I know grows quite well in the soil there). This could be a long term source of food for us.
There also happens to be an abundance of wild life in the area. I could easily hunt the local wild life almost any time I wanted.

Part 4. Defenses.

There is only one small dirt road that leads to my B.O.L, We can easily block it off with one of my uncle's large tractors. This isn't a primary defense so much as it is a deterrent. The road that leads to the B.O.L has a winding turn followed by a long narrow path, we could easily spot someone walking down it.
The rest of the area is surrounded by a forest. I've hunted these forest before and I have several areas that I could easily set up concealed positions.
One of the three buildings that we have on the property has a second floor that leads to a small room that would make an excellent marksman's nest. It faces away from the road and towards the South end of the property. It happens to overlook a mostly open field all the way to the tree line about 400 yards away.
Most of the land to the East can actually be covered from the rear windows of the house, from there you can see about 350-400 yards all the way to a tree line. The West area is tricky to cover. There's an open field for about 400 yards stretching over the property line to a tree line on the other side. There isn't really a good position to cover this area, so it will have to watched very carefully.

From here we will stay isolated and on guard. We will live off of the resources and hopefully farm when possible.

If for whatever reason we have to flee this position I have a secondary position selected that is about 15 miles south of my B.O.L, it would require making a journey through the bush that I haven't been able to do yet(some of the property in between is off limits). It is my sister's home that also happens to be in an isolated area in the country. She owns a chunk of land as well. In fact more so than my primary B.O.L has to offer. There are also two or three ponds on the property that we could obtain water from to boil and clean. It's also located on high ground, making it naturally easier to defend.
There is also a large amount of wildlife in the area. It is a pretty decent B.O.L as well, however it's more difficult to get to and not near as well stocked. I also don't know the land near as well as my primary.

This is the end of my current plan, please bear in mind that I will be changing and updating this plan as I gather more supplies and resources. That said, feel free to ask any questions or critique me in any way you feel constructive.

This plan and your BOL are buth fantastic.. Jusr remember that seeds will lose their germenation rate over time, also make sure that if you do plant crops you should rotate them to avoid nutrient deprivation in the soil.

The only things I have to say on the critical side are:
1) If for whatever reason you had to hoof it, would you be able to and further, would you have a plan as to what to take in the packs/bags/rucksack and what to ditch?
2) How long would it take you to get to the BOL from the house.
3) I dont know if you've thought of this so forgive me if you have. A plan for what if this happens while you're at work?

Other than that, you got yourself a DAMN GOOD plan and are very lucky to own such property! Thanks for sharing.
