Original-Sin's Survival PlanThis is a featured page

Prologue:
This is my personal survival plan, in here I will detail what actions I plan on taking in the case of a zombie outbreak. I have a very specific theory about the origins and what zombies might be like posted on my profile. This plan is according to that theory, but can be adapted to other emergency situations, doomsday scenarios, or just plain other types of zombies.

Part 1: Pre-Outbreak
Imamapimamap
Currently I reside in a house in a heavily wooded, mountainous region of Oregon, roughly 10+ miles from the closest town, and have very few, reclusive neighbors. I like my privacy. See that giant blue line? That's a river literally no more than 30 feet from my front deck. I live in a valley spotted with farmland and ranches, flanked by the many massive mountains and forests that make up 90% of Oregon. Now for those of you who don't know much about farming here. See all the land to the left of the river? That is owned by one farmer. All the land owned to the right? That's owned by another. Two. I have two neighbors in a 7 mile radius.

At my house I have my two rifles, my 12 gauge, and all my equipment. Like most things, you can read about the guns on my profile. I'm at home practically 24/7. When I'm not home I'm either out hunting or in town to pick up supplies. The point of this section is to give you a basic idea of where I live and how close I am to my supplies almost all the time.

Part 2: Panic/The First Stages of the Outbreak
Realistically, by the time the outbreak got to me most of the nation could have already fallen. I'd wager that I'd hear about the outbreak far before I witnessed it, which would hopefully give me that extra edge of time to prepare and act. Regardless, as soon as there are signs of an outbreak happening in the US it's time to move.

The first step is to make some calls as I start throwing together all my gear. I would call my fiance and my best friend, assuming they didn't already hear about it and called me first. Once the gear is gathered, the guns are loaded, and everyone is aware that it's "really happening", we start leaving our homes. I go to pick up my fiance in my truck, if she isn't already with me, and he goes to pick up his woman in his. By an hour after the call we should already have met up and be on our way to our temporary fortress in the sky.

Part 3: The Temporary Fortress in the Sky
Original-Sin's Survival Plan - Zombie Survival & Defense Wiki
This is our "Temporary Fortress in the Sky". A lookout tower in the mountains that we know like the back of our hands. This lookout tower was built to have an entire 360 degree view of the mountains around it so the forest products companies could spot any wildfires. It was built to be very roomy for two people, and will fit us four temporarily just fine. Fortunately, for us, it was abandoned years ago because wildfires can be detected through the use of thermal cameras much easier than manned towers so we wont have to worry about running into anyone up here.
From the top
There is a decent sized storage building on the ground next to it and a chain-link fence surrounding the small compound. A communication's room stands at the base of the tower. Only one old logging road leads up to the tower itself, and that road is the only way to gain access to our compound. Furthermore, we plan on fortifying the fence and destroying the first two flights of stairs that go up the tower to put in a rope ladder instead for added security.

We plan on being here for two weeks if everything works out as planned. After those two weeks I will have to travel down the mountain and scout the surrounding areas and towns and report back to decide whether it is safer to set up a more permanent fortress down there, or to keep fortifying up here.

Part 3B: A new home?
This part will only be implemented if the scouting trip tells us it's safe enough to do it, yet the outbreak is still on the loose. We have an old, now abandoned, surplus store in mind. Sitting on the outskirts of a small town with a population of less than 6,000. just one look at it says "fortress". Since it was closed down a couple years ago, it has been used for long-term storage of excess building materials. Everything we need to fortify it more is already in there. Only two entrances, the main doors and a loading dock with a large metal gate, can be barricaded easily. And to top it all off it's located in close proximity to two gun stores, another big-box store, and more building supplies, as well as a feed store and plenty of places to get non-perishable foods.

The walls are thick rebar reinforced cement with no windows. The building has a large flat roof that can be used to grow crops for a steady, but slow, supply of food. We don't plan on farming being our main source of food, but we will certainly do it to take a load off of eating nothing but non-perishables and to give us something to keep busy with.

Ideally we would try to connect this building to other ones via catwalks from roof to roof. This would allow us easy and safe access to multiple buildings that can just as easily be moved out of the way or destroyed if one building is compromised for what ever reason.

Part 3C: False Alarms
Maybe the military stepped in and resolved the issue. Perhaps the skinjobs all died out somehow. However it may have happened, there is the possibility that the outbreak may be stopped before zombies outnumber humans. If this is the case, the scouting trip after the first two weeks in our temporary fortress in the sky will reveal that and we can all go back living our normal lives. It may seem silly at first if you haven't thought about that eventuality, yet imagine it for a moment. If somehow order was restored and you spent the first few weeks of the outbreak looting stores and committing what normal society would view as crimes, it very well might catch up with you.

Part 4: Long-term Survival
There would be a few goals now. The first and most important to me is looking for other survivors. Secondly, is constantly increasing our supply surplus. The more food, guns, and ammo we have the better. Lastly, constantly building up our defenses. I never plan to stop fortifying my base for as long as I live there. Once all widows and doors are boarded and cemented, every crack or hole filled, then I can move on to reinforcing the very walls, ceilings and floors of the building, perhaps even expanding to the skys and into the earth if we need the extra space.

If enough survivors are found then we can move onto a easier to defend location that's closer to supplies. I want to take over a barge, freighter, or aircraft carrier to turn into my own personal citadel. Why? There are a lot of reasons but I've already listed them all on my profile. In this stage of the plan it's all about surviving, thriving, and building.
