id pick lake superior too, i based my Z fiction story "the outer island colony" on an island on the Apostle Island chain off of wissconsin, another idea to keep in mind and since your mobile, if you drift near canada, most of the canadian coastline there is Natinol forests and wildlife preserves, you could send out hunting partys on little boats from the main group and go get bear, elk caribou moose and deer, thatd feed your population, plus fish of course
