PedroAsani's Survival Plan - Part 3: Digging In - Personal EquipmentThis is a featured page

Each person will be issued with the following on Z Day.

1 Bolt action rifle with noise suppression and scope
2 Handguns with suppressors, 10 magazines total
2 Trench spikes
1 Machete
1 Large flashlight
1 Small flashlight
1 Leatherman multi-tool
1 Knife
1 Personal medical kit
1 Box of waterproof matches
1 Box of safety matches
1 CB radio
1 Emergency ration
1 Weeks worth of water purification tablets
1 Water canteen (1 litre)
1 Watch
1 pair of High-powered Binoculars
1 Compass
1 Map of the area, printed on cloth (Detailed 10-mile radius map on one side, general 50-mile radius map on the other)
1 set of earplugs

Each item has a specific reason. Bolt action rifles will force you to make each shot count. Noise suppression will lower the chances of your shot being heard. The two handguns are so you can switch from one to another instead of reloading, or if one jams. They are NOT for dual-wielding. (No-one is John ******* Woo, not even John ******* Woo.)

The trench spike are for close-quarters where it is impractical to swing a machete. They are the last resort weapon. The machete is for dispatching incapacitated zombies, and useful for opening thin wooden doors. 2 flashlights, one for outside, one for inside and backup. The personal medical kit will have items such as antiseptic, needle and thread, bandages, etc. The reason for two different matches are that the safeties should always be used first, since waterproof ones are last resort fire-starters. The CB radios will be rechargeable (we have solar power at the base.) The emergency ration will be things like power-bars initially, and then substituted for whatever we can make with the crops as the power-bars expire.

The reason for the watch is so that everyone will know what time guard changes, meals, work rotations and the like will happen. They will either be motion powered, or simple wind-able coil and spring. Binoculars for scouting the perimeter. Compass for path-finding if needed, and the cloth map because a paper one would fall apart when wet. The earplugs are in case the moans get too constant.

This equipment will be carried at all times, probably with most of it worn on a utility belt. However, the CB radio, watch, binoculars and rifle are expected to be the only items used on a day to day basis. Expeditions into town will be by exception only. The base is completely self-sustaining, so maybe one run to a hospital for equipment or drugs would be needed. All this is in case the base is overrun and an emergency escape is needed.

Note: The Trench spikes will need to be custom made. It has been pointed out that the current designs (M1917 and M1918) have flaws. Most notably, using the guard as a knuckleduster can snap the tang. Also, the guard does not protect the fingers or hand as well as it could.

lolondarzombiebait ok as far as weapons. (page: 1 2) 38 Mar 21 2011, 3:25 PM EDT by PedroAsani

In the name of trench knives. I dont like em they do not fit comfortably and if they get stuck they take to long to ditch. go with something easier like the k-bar curving tactical knife. less hand protection but a thick durable blade plenty of weight to help punch threw the skull and its comfortable to use I carry one while in uniform on my belt with my gerber etc. haven't found much that dulls the blade quickly

http://www.knife-depot.com/knife-297205.html

I would go with either the kukri or the machete no problems there. But i would have the thicker blade, because if it does come to that i don't want that breaking on me ya know?

As far as pistols. At the PX near where I work I can get Several Good pistols for under $400 USD no silencers that I've seen but $500 will buy at least 1 decent pistol plus small accessories another thing you would need for ALL of these weapons is cleaning kits that the person should carry one on them and keep at least one in there room / BOB

Thank you That is all :D

I disagree with your suggestion of not going to search for more supplies, items like duct tape, and scrap metal are necessary for survival and easily found.

Instead of a regular machete, i suggest the Kukri, a Ghurka traditional knife. It has a thicker, heaver weight focused on the bend halfway up the blade. This gives you a MUCH greater poundsforce on the edge of the blade. If you have a large, heavy kukri, you could literally split a Zed Head from skulltop to spineback.

The handguns should be Glock G19C, the Glock 19C is a more compact version that holds a 9x19mm round, and has a compensator. Perfect, low recoil, decent stopping power, high magazine capacity. Or a nice semi Ruger.

The rifle should be a .22 Marlin, scoped and silenced, tube fed (12 or so rounds), bolt or lever action. Low recoil, decent range, the lever action gives you a higher rate of fire, while still making each shot count. Browning also makes a nice semi, also tube fed, but you load it from the stock, 11 rounds.

You should also add to your medkit/ once a week use, Valium, or dizaphram, a drug that should be taken in 2, 5, or 10 mg doses. Basically, it can be used as an anti depressant, but its use is for calming you down, relaxing your muscles, or relaxing you for a high stress situation. It stops muscles shaking, so you can get a better killzone, and more accurate shots, meaning less bullet wasting. make it two emergency rations, and two sets of earplugs.

Your spikes should be made of tempered aluminium, since you can easily melt that down, and if you make a 3/4 inch or thicker bars, you can sharpen them easily, and they wont break. You can always remelt and recast if they break, and you can pick up trash, like old soda or beer cans to melt down.
