It seems simpler to divide the list into two parts. The crimes part I will fill in later. For now, the punishments list, and why some are accepted and others are rejected.
Punishments
Jail/Confinement:Jail/Confinement: So the criminal sits doing nothing, gets fed and sheltered? Every lazy bastard is going to want in on that.
Rejected.Rejected.Corporal Punishment:Punishment: Quick to administer. Humiliation and shame can be powerful motivators. However, they could just as easily motivate an uprising. It can also injure, which then requires treatment and deprives the community of an able-bodied worker.
Rejected.Rejected.Witholding of rations:rations: Thrifty, and can have a long lasting psychological effect. Hunger won't harm someone if they skip a couple of meals, but they will definitely feel it, especially when they still have to work.
Accepted.Accepted.Forced labour:labour: Extra labour for the community, it keeps the criminal busy and wears them out.
Accepted.Accepted.Exile:Exile: Pushing a disgruntled (ex)inhabitant out into a hostile world will put them in no better mood. They know your location, layout, strengths and weaknesses. If they were to run into Raiders, are they likely to send them your way? Why take the risk?
Rejected.Rejected.Capital Punishment:Punishment: For the most serious crimes, this has to be a consideration. Those who are willing and capable of committing crimes that would warrant this punishment are going to be a continuing, persistent threat to the community. They can't be allowed to stay, and since Exile (above) is not an option, this is the only solution.
How?Accepted.Carrying out Capital Punishment
This has been debated on the boards quite a bit, and the same methods are brought up repeatedly. So here I will list and rule in or out each method.Gunshot: Uses a bullet. Leaves entry and exit wounds which will bleed. Biological matter everywhere. Noisy. Rejected.Stabbing: Messy, stab wounds mean blood, biological matter everywhere. Gruesome and drawn out. Can take time. Rejected.Poison: Uses resources that could be put to other uses. Can take time. Possibly an agonising death. Rejected.Strangulation: Takes time. Almost certainly an agonising death. Rejected.Feeding to zombies: Certainly an agonising death. Possibility of escape. Requires proximity of members of the group to zombies. Rejected.Dismemberment: Messy, agonising death. TBD.Takes Accepted.time. Biological matter everywhere. Rejected.Hanging (Pierrepoint method): Instantaneous. Requires only a rope, which can be reused. No biological matter. Accepted. | Previous Page | Current Page | Next Page |
