I have multiple plans for how to respond to a zombie attack, depending on the situation, I might be found scouting from rooftops with a semi-auto Marlin .22, charging threw the streets blazing glory with a 12 gauge, or hold up in a self designed zombie defense compound.

To everyone who made a post on zombie survival that mentioned guns: Guns are loud. Sure you can kill a zombie quickly enough (if you are a decent shot) but that one gun shot has the potential to alert and draw in more zombies. If the zombies keep coming in then eventually you run out of ammo. End of Zombie Survival.
Fortunately for all you trigger happy individuals, there are some crossbows that fire at speeds of 350+ feet per second and come equipped with a scope to help with accuracy. Sure they aren't as quick as far as reload times may go but they are quiet and the bolts can be gathered and reused. Melee weapons have advantages and disadvantages as well. While they never require any reloading, they do require you to have the physical strength to damage the brain enough to kill the zombie as well as getting up close enough to actually take care of it. I don't know what your guys' ideas of zombies are but there have been many different variations over the years. For example you have your slow, stupid zombies like in Shaun of the Dead, or the faster, smarter, and stronger variations from the Resident Evil series. Personally my idea of your average zombie is of the one depicted in the Zombie Survival Guide: Slow, strong, unintelligent opportunists. Zombie Apocalypse survival is essentially a waiting game. Eat or be eaten, survival of the fittest/most intelligent. You are up against other survivors as well as zombies. Eventually the zombies run out of food and waste away. If anyone manages to survive then it becomes their job to repopulate what is left of the earth. My plan is very area specific and relies on varying skills I have picked up from survival training and scouting in rotc, as well as hunting and tracking i learned from my dad. The outdoors is my second home and i have no problems staying their for extended periods of time :)

a) On a fairly low level outbreak of zombies (Class 1, Class 2) hunker down. Bring every last bit of food to the second floor of my house. Use every water bottle, bowl bath tub, sink, and cup and fill it with water. Don’t laugh you never know when the tap water will run out during a zombie attack. Also stock up batteries, electricity won’t be running when the plant workers get bitten by zombies. Bring every last bit of sharp objects and any other object that can effectively kill a zombie then destroy the stairs. Hunker down on the second floor, don’t make much noise and wait until help arrives. Remember to lock all doors and windows anyways; they can be used as a forewarning to make sure you don’t get caught off guard.
b) On high level outbreak of zombies (Class 3, Class 4) run, run, and run. Pack the necessary equipment (listed above), get in the car and drive as north as possible. Gather a group of survivors and move as a convoy of SUVs. Preferably people who are able and can fight. List of people not allowed Nerds Geeks Losers Pussies Ugly Dumb Blondes (Can be used as bait at best) Maniacs Psychos People I don’t like List of recommended people Jocks Former Soldiers Current Soldiers Cops Anyone who knows how to use a gun Ninjas Samurai Shaolin Monks SWAT team members Spartaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnssssssss Master Chiefs Anyone who knows how to survive in the wild Hot Horny Babes (at least two to a male) (we're gonna have to repopulate the world sooner or later)

Had this idea the other day and i'm not sure if its good or bad. A little advice would be helpful.
Okay, while thinking of place to dig-in and prison came across my mind. Prisons or jails are fenced in with ten foot high fences and have razor wire on top. Bars on all the window and so on and so on....... Its a prison, meant to keep you in. Wouldn't this be a good place to ride out z-day or use as a base during reconstruction.

When I first hear of strange attacks my sister and i will arm ourselves with weapons and armor from our house and fight our way to the car. We'll go over to my friend's house (hopefully he's alive inside) and after i rub it in his face a little bit (he didn't believe me about Z-Day) we get his friends. Next we commandeer a radio station and an ice cream truck. We use the ice cream truck to tell people around town to turn on their radios. We then use the radio station to send survival info and tell them where to meet up. From there we organize the band of survivors into an small army and assault a nearby Walmart. We get supplies and find a place to launch attacks from for 6 months (about the time it takes for the national guard steps in). If they fail we get some buses and reinforce them. Then we skip town hopefully before the place is nuked. We'll use our convoy and create a nomadic society in the post-apocalyptic world that moves from place to place avoiding metropolitan areas and places being nuked. If I'm lucky my dog, Buster, and I can enter the K-Unit of the U.S. Military and fight in World War Z in which case i give my sister control over the new society. When the war is over we will settle in my neighborhood and name the new town to honor the ones in my family who fell in the outbreak.

Making a little refuge camp for survivors.
Making a tall baricade in a big circle with a lockable door incase some more survivors arrive. Inside the circle make little tents and small structures for sleeping quarters and in the main structure(which would be the chief's(which would be me)) put a HAM & CB radio. Then make a militia of the adults and teenagers so that kids and mothers could stay in safe. Eventually we could make a Helipad so a copter could come and get survivors. Eventually we would expand and, expand and, we could retake North/South America.

ok, i live in the southern part of illinois, stuck between southeast missouri and western kentucky, and today we had ONE HELL OF A WINDSTORM! 110 MPH winds tore hell out of four counties in my area.
now we are out of power for the next three days (at least) and stores are closed ( i am currently at my sisters house in another town which still has power) . now people are freaking out "how are we going to get food?" thats crazy to think that so many people dont have enough food in their kitchen to last a couple days. how unprepared could you be? i mean we lost power last Feb for a few days because of an ice storm, and january of 08' we were out of power because of another ice storm. why havent these people learned from the last two disaster? i made jokes with my friends that its a good thing that it was a windstorm and not a zombie outbreak cause there would be alot of dead people. most people will die from being unprepared and rushing out to walmart or somewhere and die in the choas

Hi, i'm Sam Cook. I'm from Ontario and i'm planning on taking an island. I'm not exactly sure of the islands name but i do have its coordinates (41.788561, -82.797110). It is a small island (about 150 by 175 M) with what looks like two well sized homes. next too these homes is a large open field where one could grow food and do other things. it is off of Pelee island and seems like a very Dependable place to go. My basic root is to start in Blenheim, Ontario (In Chatham Kent) make my way to Leamington, Ontario (Aporx. 30 min drive) go to the Marina and either steel or if were lucky enough, find a survivor who owns a boat there to come with us. The Marina is about 19KM South-West from the island in question. If anyone would like to join us, you are welcome to come. Any help would be appreciated.
If you would like to see the island, go to the following link and punch in the coordinates above: http://boulter.com/gps/ Any ideas would be apreciated to improve my plan. PS. I am actually planning to bring supplies, i just thought that was fairly obvious so i left it out. (sorry for posting in two threads, this one was so i could have a personal thread for my on going survival plan)

my school is an absolute fortress. the roof is covered with solar panels providing energy. there is a farm, a garden and a well. the only way in if the giant metal spiked double sets of gates were closed would be through the large building in front of the school that blocks it off from the street so its a great choke point. plenty of rooms inside to safe-up and seeing as most of my friends are also believers we are pretty well off. i will be posting pictures, diagrams, instructions for the lobotomizers that i have constructed.

What do you all think about using the Appalachian Trail as a survival resource/refuge during a zombocalypse? The intent would be to make it to a trailhead with your survival buddies, BOB, rifle and hiking/camping gear, abandon your vehicles and then hike the trail. The trail is isolated from major population centers and follows the ridgeline of the mountains in most areas, making it unlikely that you would encounter very many zombies or other survivors. You could observe houses and villages on the valley floor and make raids on unoccupied settlements to supplement supplies when needed. Streams and game are plentiful on the trail, so access to food and water is manageable as long as you don't have a sensitive palate. Time spent on the trail could be used to search for a long term stronghold - there are many cabins, vacation homes and isolated farm houses in the Appalachians. The biggest problem I'm having is how to stay safe at night, which is when any slow zombies who have been following but stayed out of sight will catch up and stumble into your encampment. If you are hiking with a group you could set watches and camp off the trail in an area with a lot of leaf litter and underbrush so the noise of the approaching zombie alerts you. If you're alone, though, sleeping on the ground will be deadly. Could you use a tent hammock in the trees? Could you build a tree stand every night and sleep in it? The tree stand is the best option I've come up with so far. Comments, suggestions?

In the zombie-pocalypse anyone who relies on looting stores is screwed. Everyone and their momma will be looting stores. You're as likely to be killed looting a store by other looters as you are to be killed by zombies.
You must be armed in advance and have at least enought food for you and yours to make it to wherever you plan to hole up. Failing a good place to hole up, a stockpile of food that you keep onhand will give you some time to figure out how to access food safely for the long run.

i have spent a few years, working on my plan, my first idea is to visit the local Territorial Army base, they should have some weapons there, and then as soon as i can i shall travel to some of the old prisons, strangeways in manchester barbed wire, big stone walls but then you have a problem of lots of people in manchester and prisoners, so a place like dartmoor/exmoor prisons, the old ones.the ones with the BIG walls, safe, secure, usually with their own power supplies, Bonus you have a prison population, who could be useful, breaking and entering, mindless mayhem. Or a place like a small island, isle of man.

Some people think that Zombies would be fast jumpy creatures that are hard to kill and difficult to survive against but the truth is they would be slow moving and their skin would be rotting away the only reason they are capable of killing humans is because of the amount of them you could simply shoot throught the body of a Zombie with a fairly powerful Airsoft gun maybe not kill them unless you got a good headshot which could rip through the brain of the Zombie and kill it instantly and a regular Air Rifle (22.) would take a Zombie out with a shot to the body!
If a Zombie invasion did take place this is what i would do ! I live in a Maisonnette (two story flat) above a cancer research shop in the highstreet, at first i would take my Airsoft Shotgun and a knife, leave my flat drive through the side alley into the street their is a sport shop just across the street i get out and a Zombie is in the alley opposite i would move close hopefully shoot my shotgun hitting the Zombies head if not stab it, then go into the sports shop or break in if it wasnt open drop the knife take a cricket bat then two minutes down the high street is a saddler's which sells guns, knives and ammo, a Zombie is standing outside smash him round the face with the cricket bat then break into the saddler's drop the Airsoft shotgun take a dozen Air Rifles (22.) one air pistol (Gamo PT80 for me) two dozen small flick knifes a dozen machetes twenty crates of needle bullets (22.) then drive to Marcus pick him up hand him an Air Rifle (22.) a machete and two flick knifes drive to sainsburys on the way drive-by lots of Zombies then take at least thirty bags of food and drink then one extra bag for the drive with doritos and dr pepper in, then go and pick up Toby give him the same equipment as Marcus then get Rory and Callum give them the same equipment as the others then i would drive back to my flat with all the supplies and wait for survivors! To Be Continued...

I have heard it suggested that schools and hospitals are best places to "hole up" and survive a zombie horde. Not the case in metro chatty. There are a number of schools and hospitals that are a million years old each. None of which stand any chance against the 190,000 in chattanooga and surrounding cities. Chattanooga is a city that sits on the line of georgia and Tennessee with the tennessee river winding through it. There are also several mountains that tower over the city. Now believing Max Brooks' theories considering the mobility of the average zombie, boats are out of the question. There are plenty of access points where water bourne zoms could come ashore, and there are points shallow enough where bottom draggers could pose a threat. The downtown area is flat valley and rolling hills, dotted with residential areas and industrial complexes and an aproximate 100 square mile area of public and government office, stadium and college buildings. There are over a 1000,000 people who commute and congregate in the downtown area daily. These conditions illustrate insurmountable odds against survival in the downtown or surrounding residential areas. So what is a chattanoogan to do? When it comes to fight or flight my first though was flight. Interstate 24 and 75 run right through the city. Knoxville, Nashville, and Atlanta are the most accessable cities around, however, these highways will most likely be jammed with motorists...panic driven motorists. My best assesment thus far is the surrounding mountain terrain. I live in a house that is 68 years old and not very well defensible. I have a economical four wheel drive and enough firearms and woodland now-how to traverse and survive in such an area. There is a large park area that I studied on google maps that is north east about 35 miles from downtown chatty, and in that area is where I hunt and shoot. Vertical rock faces along will easily defendable locations prove the best place for temporary survival.

Your Name: Jennifer Your location:Brooklyn, NY Tell us: Is your plan dependent on zombies in your home town, or anywhere? Anywhere. But I do live near one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in the 5 boroughs, and should the dead rise from their graves, my house is at ground zero. Will you be staying in your home or headed somewhere else? My husband and I have agreed to go home asap in the event of a Zombie attack. We will hold up there for as long as we need to. Stock up on dry food and gather rain water on the roof. If you're heading out, how do you plan to get there? We'll head out if things get too hairy. First of all, I wont make the fatal mistake of taking along anything that requires gas or ammo. We'll invest in Carhartt coveralls (for the biting), take as much camping gear as we can load onto our bikes and head out to the middle nowhere. Dont forget iodine tablets!! Got anyone you want to take with you? My husband and my dog. Unfortunately, we will let the cat go. How will you communicate with the outside world, or do you plan to go the hermit route? Fuck 'em. Hermit all the way. How are you planning to get food and water? Dry goods and rain water. What's your weapon of choice? Do you need to reload that thing? Gotta plan for that? Husband - Cricket bat and machete Me - Katana Got a survival philosophy? I want to make it till the end. I want to be one of the ones chosen to repopulate the planet. Are you willing to hook up with other survivors? Well see... Is your plan based on a book/movie/blog/scientist we may have heard of? All Zombie related movies, books, survival guides, etc. Particularly "28 Days Later" and "Shaun of the Dead".
