Pirates & Naval Power

Pirates & Naval Power... During the zombie apocalypse, it is not unreasonable to think that the navies of the world would fall apart along with the governments that run them. Nuclear pirate ships and submarines sail as the world reverses itself, bringing us back to a lawless point in history, where neither land nor sea is safe...

Overall, this page is dedicated to the assumption that people will not just be living on land, but will also be out at sea. They step only on dry land to scavenge for fresh water, food, supplies, etc. Here we will discuss the pros and cons of living at sea, as well as the risks & benefits for those on dry land.

PROS OF LIVING AT SEA
  1. Safety from most zombies
  2. Steady source of food and water (as long as water is desalinized and fish are caught)

CONS OF LIVING AT SEA
  1. Communication will be difficult
  2. If you are on a motor boat and you run out of fuel, you will drift aimlessly
  3. Pirates!
  4. Natural disasters such as hurricanes and tsunamis
  5. Difficulty in returning to land
  6. Seasickness and scurvy
  7. Encounters with ghost ships (boats overrun by zombies)
  8. Loneliness
  9. Random encounter with a hostile navy

PROS OF LIVING ON LAND
  1. Ease of finding food and water
  2. Probability of finding other friendly survivors
  3. More place to run to

CONS OF LIVING ON LAND
  1. Zombies everywhere!
  2. Hostile survivors
  3. Harsh weather

While some of the higher up structure and communication might fail, somehow I imagine there would still be a good amount of ships/subs out there that would hold to their miitary disciplines and laws. Once that trained I don't think they would just up and turn pirate. Some might do some...less honorable?...things in the name of the greater good.

But perhaps some of those among us with Naval/Military experience might have a better idea of what might happen.
